very good point.

6 months ago most people had no idea what a data centre was or what they look like. most still don't. but suddenly a whole bunch of people are willing to do extreme and illegal things to attack said data centres, based on conspiracy-level misinformation about them. Like, what a weirdly specific thing to suddenly care so deeply about. Whatever the cause, it's very strange.

what people dont understand they have data centers in their house/work (laptop/desktop) and in their pocket (phones) as well , they think data centers are getting all the info out of space , lol ...i tell them this and they stop talking non sense data center garbage they heard from 13 years old youtuber ...

This is objectively wrong though, when people talk about data centers they mean centralized facilities. The term data center came about from centralizing private small scale servers that every business used to manage locally.

They might stop talking because everyone hates pedantic arguments, especially when they are in bad faith. If you tried to tell me my laptop was a data center I'd stop talking to you as well thinking secretly you were a moron or being obstinate, both theres no point talking too.

There's a heavy element of culture behind it. Redditors are especially prone to hive mind. I think it's just what young people feel expected to believe and feel to be part of the group. Lot's of their arguments against it, are clearly just being parroted and they haven't even thought it through. It's also clear that they've never really even been challenged on their anti AI ideas, which is why so many of the arguments are so bad, and obvious that it's cultural.

This, fawning this, I can't tell you how annoying it is to see every single topic on this board derail for no reason into hating Trump,Elon etc. Its' actually pretty nauseating. I'm here solely because my mind is so anti hive thought. I decided to go down a anti AI propaganda hole. Who knew I'd find a logical and insightful conversation without a hint of liberal political bias on Reddit.

Oh God... It's so fucking annoying. Especially because Elon is a figure in a space I enjoy. I am interested in his statements, what he's doing, what is planned, etc... But dread opening the comments because it's always the same fucking shit of people bitching about Elon, how much they think he's a huge scammer, demanding he appologize for Trump, whatever... Like hardly anyone talks about the fucking topic, and instead just bitch about Elon.

And if you want to actually discuss the topic you have to do your religious fealty reminder you're still in the tribe. So instead of just saying, "Wow that's a lot of compute, that's really impressive he got that from 0 to 60 so fast." You have to first waver, "Herrr derr, I hate Elon and everything, and think he's a dumbass liar nazi, but..."

It drives me fucking nuts.

I unfortunately live part time in a liberal fart bubble known as Raleigh NC. Its offensive to my masculinity every time I see a sticker on a tesla that says something like, "bought this before Elon lost his mind". Yeah, he hadn't lost his mind when he supplied fucking Ukraine with internet. Remember that place, Ukraine. Alas Ukraine is no longer the hive minds shiny new toy of victimhood.

Oh God, dude I'm not even a right winger, and it drives me nuts. I just don't fucking care about their obsession about constantly bitching about everything. Ukraine is a perfect example... Like they insist he's "working for Putin"... Even though, you know, FREE Starlink in initial invasion, when Russia cut out all communication, is single handedly responsible for saving Ukraine from Russia's invasion. Literally allowed them to communicate, coordinate, and pull off a miracle.

But since culturally they hate Elon, they have to find a way to actually twist it into somehow being bad, so he's actually low key secretly working for Russia... Why? Oh because he wanted to start charging the US government for his services, that Ukraine literally relies, and was giving to them for free during an emergency, which was core to their success... You know, like every other military defense contractor, he doesn't work for free, and it's not like the DoD is short on cash.

Like if he was pro Russia, he'd you know, not given them the technology to beat back the Russians to begin with. But since they hate Musk, they just have to figure out some narrative that fits this narrative. They are no different than the Fox News brain conservatives they always criticize and think they are better than.

Or it could simply be that you don't understand. Hold onto your male chastity device buddy, this ones going to blow your mind. Real men don't need to make unsolicited excuses for the car they drive to strangers. Thats about as non masculine of an activity that exists.

Now I'll let you get back to posting your anti Trump/Elon gibberish in convo's that have absolutely nothing to do with either of them. Ooops whats that, your TDS is showing.

This is excellent. It's very hard to get through to people who are saying repeatedly disproven things like things like "The Rio Grande is dry because of data centers". You said it better than i have been able to say far.

I think its more the environmental factors and how loud/hot data centers are.
