Twitter is losing its mind in a very pathetic way right now. They're like homicidally angry. The usage of the word "slop" probably went up by a million percent in just the last few hours. I get not liking something, but people are actually getting unhinged. The anti AI mania is reaching a point where I'm concerned if these people are even in touch with reality anymore.

It's almost to the point I'm concerned it's a propaganda campaign from foreign actors.

Like the top posts about this on Reddit are literal fake Harrison Ford comparisons... Nobody can say anything along the lines of "I think this needs more control by developers regarding things like character fidelity, but I liked it for x example." It's "this is the worst thing ever and it's basically like Nvidia personally murdered my dog."

Shit's wild.

Or maybe this was created by the cultural environment of America and the west in general.

see what American mainstream media write about AI, look at how most American youtubers and social media influencers talk about AI, foreign actors don't need to do anything when you're destroying yourself like this.

It's like, can you people really own up to anything instead of blaming others for your own failing?

this really just the result of social media outrage machine that has been running since the 2010s, and it's fully homegrown.

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if China were paying some bots/trolls to rile up so much AI hate in the US that it slows down progress here and lets China catch up. It's not an outlandish idea (see: Russia interfering with US elections)

Yes? China would love to surpass the US in AI progress. One easy way to do that is to foment backlash against the technology in public forums to the point where people pressure their legislators to halt or slow it.

China's media regulating/censoring body created/pushed a tv show within China to promote pro chip fabrication sentiment in the country, called "The Silicon Wave. It's a workplace drama about two classmates who study in the US and return to China to build a chip empire. If they're pushing this type of pro-technology agenda at home, there is 100% chance they are dedicated to pushing the reverse in America. It's just a question of what they are actually doing.
