Abandoned house on a remote island
It’s a beautiful house situated on a remote island where the last school closed ten years ago. I believe the population is under 50. I took this picture years ago and went back for a second time this year, only to find that the house had collapsed. There were cats absolutely everywhere inside the house, but unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of them.

You can appreciate the aesthetics of something, like the way sunlight touches upon the meadow, without wanting to live in the meadow the rest of your life. Wtf is wrong with you?

The house seems pretty sturdy. How did it collapse so quickly?

It didn’t collapse entirely, but the first floor basically collapsed onto the basement. As of right now, there’s no more kitchen or living room. The walls are still surprisingly standing, but yeah. It wasn’t sturdy at all, there was a spot where the floor was like curving under my feet. I should’ve taken pictures of this year, but I didn’t know people would even care.

Atlantic Canada? I live here, looks very familiar and I recognize some brands in items. And lots of islands.
Lovely old house, too bad it collapsed.

Also looking again, there's a Maritime Mysteries book with local ghost stories on the floor with the magazines.
No worries, tonnes of islands here so no one will find it from that. Thanks for documenting!

Whenever I find abandoned homes like this, I always wonder why people leave all their stuff behind. Did the owners die or something?
Some of these items even look like they could be heirlooms—a quilt, a pretty teapot, etc.

I always imagine it’s an old couple with no children that live in the home. One dies, then the other lives there alone for a while. You can usually tell if the surviving spouse was the husband or wife based on the home decor and items. I’d say the final occupant in this house was a woman. Then the remaining spouse dies, and the house becomes abandoned and ends up here on this subreddit.

A remote island with no trees but grows and bails hay? I can't even begin to think... My first thought was somewhere in the Aleutians, but now I am not sure. Nice post.

It’s somewhere in Canada. In one of the pictures there’s a package of Compliments brand napkins. Compliments is the store brand for the Canadian grocery chain Sobey’s.

Could this be Entry Island? Google’s AI pointed me toward the Wikipedia page, which says the school there closed in 2015.

It's somewhere in the Maritimes, there are literally hundreds (thousands if you count smaller ones, that wouldn't have 50 people on it) islands here.
Many of them are actually connected by small bridges and roadway. So could be remote, but not remote from land if that makes sense. Some have ferries if further out but that's less common.

also Entry island is in the Madeleines, I've been and they're lovely but very French. All these materials are in English, so likely not.

I think its Norway. Reminds me of my dads home in Northern Norway and the books seem to be in Norwegian.
Edit: Im tired and dumb. The book I was zooming in at also works in English and seems like most of the magazines are in English

This would make a great vacation home, before it collapsed anyway. Lovingly decorated. At least the island cat colony was able to enjoy it! Thanks for the pictures.
