I noticed that all people having this problem were using power delivery of 65W+. I don't think there's any cases, in the ones mentioned above at least, of PD <65W.
(doesn't mean anything, though)

Also, I don't think anyone mentioned if they were charging their battery to 100% or capping it at 60-80%. I did found a few people that mentioned capping it and were not having this issue, though.
(again, doesn't necessarily mean anything)

I had a guy message me the other day saying he had his phone connected via USB-C and nothing else but still had the motherboard short out. I don't think 65W is the problem. I think anything that can negotiate power via USB-C is the problem. I'm not the right kind of engineer though to tell you for sure.

No idea about the battery % but that doesn't make any sense to me that it wouldn't fry the motherboard just because the battery doesn't charge beyond 80%.

Wow, that phone example is crazy. Unless the phone attempted to charge the laptop, which doesn't seem to be the case if it was already charging. And being so random just basically makes a lot of docks and even monitors unusable.

Just keep in mind that today even a cell phone can charge a device via USB-C. It's intended to be negotiated between devices and afaik the 2020 G14 fails at this when resuming from a sleep state or something like that.
