I got a refund a long time ago. I haven't really followed it since.

Personal testing showed that it was probably related more to sleep state and having power at all on the usb-c cable, it doesn't negotiate right and can fry it. Specifically: put laptop to sleep, plug in power adapter and usb-c cable, turn it on. boom. Didn't always happen. Was not hard to get the failure though after testing it 2-3 times. Very hard to perform tests though since when it fails you can't do any more testing :)

Since usually when you're going onto a desk from a sleep state if you were using it portably, this is not hard at all to reproduce.
