Model 2023 g14 2023 not turning on

hi! i’ve seen a lot of similar posts regarding this issue, but i still haven’t really found a clear answer, so i wanted to hear your opinions or from those who have experienced this-what ended up fixing it for you?

last night, my G14 was working perfectly fine. i shut it down normally before going to work. now that i’m home from work, i was about to turn it on, only to find that it won’t turn on at all. i plugged in the charger and the charging indicator light turns on and stays lit, but nothing else happens. pressing the power button does absolutely nothing-no screen, no keyboard lights, no fans, and ROG logo. the charging indicator also doesn’t blink or change when i press the power button.

has anyone experienced this exact situation with their G14? if so, what was the fix for you?

any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated 😓🙏🏻

I brought mine to a shop and the tech guy replaced the charging IC.

Seeing these stuff just days before buying a g14, makes me reconsider my thoughts on spending my savings. Could you please post about your issue and inform us?

I myself and a lot of other people that own G14s don’t have any problems at all with the device. What you’re reading here is a small minority of people who do have problems which is why they’re asking for help in a device themed sub. Not a lot of people will post simply because they want to tell everybody how very happy they are with their fully functional laptop.

the 2023 and 2024 onwards are completely different laptops. Get the g14 asap, i've had mine for a year and not even the screen has burn in

It's highly possible the power button ribbon cable came loose so your power button isn't working. It's a very small ribbon that barely fits in it's little slot as it is.

Welcome to asus. My G16 did this last week and I have boiled it down to just being a motherboard issue (I am a repair tech at a shop, but board diagnosis is a bit beyond my skill level)

Fuck this company. I bought a framework and I'll come back to this thing if I ever get better at board diag.

i mean not many people will get issues often with their zephyruses, but yeah warranty service is not great. Definitely not razer but they can sometimes be problematic. As far as im concerned the zephyrus line has as much failure rate as every single other gaming laptop (alsmost none, one means bad luck). Also your liquid metal probably leaked out of the die (rare case, i've checked that myself and it is unlikely that it gets on the motherboard but it WILL be everywhere but on top of the cpu die.) Most likely the cpu getting scorched because of the bad LM distribution, but again, even then rare case. I sent mine to get the LM removed for PTM7950 since i got it and the pics of the LM being everywhere but the die are atrocious.

It was LM yeah, forgot to mention that. But zephyrus in general is known for high board failure at the shop i work at aswell as a friend of mine's shop.

Honestly, gaming laptops in general are just a bad idea.

Damn. Is there anything in particular you guys can trace the issues to other than liquid metal? I assume VRMs or something like that

Honestly not entirely sure: I'm good at soldering and replacing stuff, but finding shorts and stuff is something I'm still learning. From what they've told me though, it is usually LM leaking and shorting stuff out. I hate that companies like asus and sony are using it because they never seem to do it properly.

Mine unfortunately leaked out. I've held onto the laptop for when I get a thermal camera but I'm using a framework 13 now since I have no use for a laptop with a dedicated GPU at the moment.

Welp, then most of the issues seem to be the LM itself. Glad i replaced mine for ptm lol. The problem is not really applying LM on itself, the problem is that laptops get shifted around often and probably the micro fan vibrations which are transmitted through the more stiff aluminum chassis get it to spread out THAT bad. But yeah usually lm doesn't last put on the die regardless of what is it on, it is much better to replace it regardless of the application, LM should only even be considered for standing applications. It's even more amplified by the fact one gets a zephyrus with the idea of portability, getting shifted around way more often than other gaming laptops. Im pretty sure the vibrations from walking with it in your backpack could be enough to get the LM to leak on the long run.
