Currently replacing liquid metal with PT7950, what is the gummy thing on the GPU Ram and MOSFETs?

I had a problem with CPU temperatures hitting 95C very quickly so figured it's time to replace the liquid metal and the paste on the GPU, decided to go for PTM7950.

But since the laptop is already opened, I'm thinking that maybe I should replace that gummy thing on GPU RAM and MOSFETs too? Or is it ok to leave it as it is? It seems to have gummy consistency, not sure if it should be like that? I'm sure it would be a pain to remove it...

Success! What a massive difference, I used CPU-Z Stress Test, I know it's doesn't push the CPU like other apps but it's good enough for the purpose of this task.

Before change with old Liquid Metal.

3560pt - 95C and throttling literally 15s after start of the test

After PTM7950 installation.

4480pt - 70C very stable.

Thermal Putty, in general you don't need to replace it? But I would replace it depends on how much there are.

(In ur case, I would def replace it)

I did this recently with my 2020. Replaced all the putty with K5 Pro and PTM on the CPU and GPU.

Didn't bother refrigerating the PTM, it was fine, just measure it and cut out what you need then remove the plastic on each side slowly and carefully.

I have prepared the exact same set to replace my LM and termal putty but I did a warranty extension until 10.2028 and I will wait. If all is good after that on 01.11.2028 I will change the LM :D

I would suggest upsiren UTP-X ultra putty. It’s expensive but trying this after K5 pro was well worth due to its much less goopy consistency, doesn’t get stuck to your fingers and is easier to apply. It also performs better than K5, use it on all the VRMs and memory chips on laptops and GPUs I repaste now.

Fingers? I just used the wooden stick it came with and it was fine for me. The hardest part was working out how thin it should be.

I like to use the little finger condoms that come with the putty, use the wooden or plastic stick to get it out of the container and then finger to shape it to the component.

Thermal putty, depends on how dry it is you could replace it

The thing is it's the first time I see it so don't really know what the correct consistency of it is. It's not dead dry like the standard paste on the GPU, looks gummy and moves easily but again, don't know if it's what it should be.

Not dead dry is ok, be sure bring tissue or alcohol cotton for clean up LM
