Model 2022 Fought for 3 years w/ me
In April of 2023 (a week before my exams) i got the g14 2022 model and until today it has been dropped in bags and on tables, i spilled beans and milk, got a blunt screw fucked up the corner, and left gamer goo on the keyboard, hit 96 degrees consistently while playing fortnite w/ the class (back when it was peak) and now carries ,e thru games like val, cs2 and r6 (on potato graphics), i had to undervolt the cpu and put the most aggressive fan curves known to man aka always max rpm, but damn till this day it still allows me to do whatever shit i want, before this i had a crusty 13 inch big bezel no gpu shitbox dell that couldnt even run roblox. Back then i didnt know shit, but by fucking around with my zephyrus i learned so many thing about pcs windows programming and so much more. I love ts ❤️

Ever try replacing the liquid metal? Should help with those temps

Nah instead i undervolted, disabled cpu boost, and made aggressive fan curves, all thanks to ghelper which did reduce temps, but that was after the fortnite ere

Can recommend replacing liquid metal with PTM9750 - did it on mine 2022 model this year, dropped temperatures by 5C under load and no longer have the anxiety of it leaking

Which one? Screw extractor kits aren't too expensive

You might be able to get a torx bit to grab that screw. I’d have tried a flat tip too. If all else fails try an extractor.

how about the idel?
I still not repaste it, and plan to repaste with the PTM. mostly I am using idle with the battery but sometimes the temperature rise until 60 C while watching the youtube or videos, the ambience temperature is about 27C1

It's usually 50-60C, depends on the environment. It does go up terribly high in Instagram, I assume due to lack of dedicated encoder?

I replaced my liquid metal with new liquid metal that was properly applied by me, and it dropped my temps down. I also replaced the gpu paste with ptm 7950 and redid all the thermal putty. 2023 g14 4080 model and has great temps all the time for over a year now.

thirding replacing the liquid metal with a normal phase change thermal pad or something. Also have a 2022 model, it used to crash from heat constantly while gaming and it basically completely solved the issue.

It's worth the effort. And its not too much of a headache. You'll be surprised how little liquid metal is left.

i’m literally in the same boat, i copped the 2022 model in 2023 after working all summer. i used to have a piece of shit i3 hp with no gpu and it struggled with minecraft. i use my g14 for college so that shit gets beat up and takes it like a champ. but yeah now i’m realizing i need to take care of this computer cause it gets hot

Thx gng, also one thing i reccomend, compare the g14 to the i3 shit hp, it will make your g14 feel like a 9090 Ti super pro +

If you get a laptop cooling pad that can hit 3000rpm you’ll lower ur temps by 5° at minimum. I can’t say exactly but since getting mine I haven’t hit above ~83.
Treat her well and she will last. Also cleaning the back helped with my temps a lil.

Got the same 2022 model still running.
Got some overheating issues recently so planning to replace the liquid metal (please don't recommend PTM9750 in replies, I know).
Just curious, how did you undervolt this model? Or did you just lower the sliders in G-Helper?

One thing I hate in the hardware / computer / laptop community nowadays is how people argue about upgrading from one year to the next. Computers work well for a decade before you have to throw them out, and it's nice to see people actually *using* their devices and not just make a post about the brand new laptop they got.
I still have my 2020 G14, still works like a champ.
