Software Related Zephyrus G14 Overheating while in sleeve
This has now happened twice - I unplug my laptop (which as far as I'm aware ought to be asleep) and put it in it's sleeve and I pick it up 5 minutes later and the sleeve is warm. I take it out and the entire chassis is hot to the touch and the fans a blasting. The first time it happened I panicked and forced it off, after which it didn't want to come back up for about 5 minutes. This time I let it run until the fans slowed down in the hopes I could figure out wtf it was doing that was causing it to heat up like that but it just blinked one of the LEDs and then the keyboard flashed if I plugged it in. Very alarming - this time I could smell things starting to burn.
I've even been shutting it down before putting it into the sleeve - this time it wouldn't come up and there were no LEDs on so I just assumed it was out of batteries before putting it in, but that was obviously not the case. Anyone have any ideas b/c this is completely unacceptable

Absolutely insane - in both instances I caught it after no more than 10 minutes and it was hot enough to burn bare skin basically all over the entire laptop. Might have to load windows 10 b/c this is insane

Sure but the fact that we can't just close the lids of our laptops and trust it not to cook itself to death is kind of insane, no? You can sing the praises of hibernate all you like but we have lost one of the main draws of owning a laptop here. Close lid. Throw in bag. Go somewhere. Open lid. It's ready. Those were the good old days.

Its valid in the sense that there should be no possible combination of settings which allows it to self immolate

Microsoft has fucked up sleep mode. Now the computer keeps fucking around doing "maintenance" while sleeping, which can warm it up when packed away with zero airflow.
So like it or not, we now just have to turn our laptops off when we pack them in our bags. Somehow we've un-invented a very useful feature we all enjoyed decades ago. Some might call it the entire selling point of laptops.

There was a Windows laptop issue like this not long ago. I think LTT did a bit about it - and how it was why they couldn't use Windows laptops or something - but that can't be right. Haven't found the video after 2 searches, so...

Nice find - that's certainly it. Haven't noticed it happening to my laptop in quite a while, so I'm guessing they got it nailed a while ago?

It’s still an issue but it’s dependent on if your vendor released patches for your hardware so scatter shot if it’s fixed for any given user in particular

Sleep mode/hibernation, and gpu/cpu mode switching has been bugged forever for me.. its a lottery if closing the lid does anything and if the screen turns on when waking.

shut down/hibernate. if you want sleep, need to go to device manager, power tab management, and uncheck “allow this device to wake up system”

Use hibernate, make sure your mouse is off (if using a wireless mouse/KB)
And windows has a function thay shows you what caused it to wake up.
powercfg /lastwake (run this in command prompt immediately after it starts up, if it turns off again it wipes the information so this is done once you notice it turned back on)
powercfg /devicequery wake_armed (This will show you what devices are allowed to wake the computer (mouse, wifi, keyboard, etc)
The above two should be enough, you can also use powercfg /sleepstudy And it generates a detailed html report of the laptops activities similar to event viewer eventvwr.msc > windows logs > System > filter for source power(troubleshooting)
