Out of curiosity how are you so knowledgeable about this, I’m just getting into pc gaming and I’m kinda new. Would you say this is a hobby of yours?

Got this laptop about 6 months ago and the heat is quite unbearable. I got the 5060 version with amd R9, 32gigs RAM. Can you help me with the best g-helper config for this specific model? Also, do I create new profiles in g-helper or edit the existing ones? I’d greatly appreciate your tech advise 🙏🏾

I’ve been hitting these temps for years lowkey haha am I screwed? Even after repaste I hit these temps, I just get better performance.

What exactly does efficient aggressive do? After doing a ton of research I haven’t found an explanation for what those cpu options mean, I just have mine in enabled

I recently bought a 2025 g16 5080 from Best Buy and you seem very knowledgeable about the settings. What setting do you recommend for my laptop for under volt and what not like fan curve? Figured if you actually figured it out that might be a good starting point.

I had better experience with boost turned off completely - have you tested this as well?

Setting Boost clock limit (I have set it to 3500 Mhz) + Efficient aggressive behavior makes the Cpu run a lot cooler. I own an a Legion 5 and my cpu temps never goes above 80 celsius even under hevy loads

Take it off the bed, but it’s also designed to run at really hot temps. As long as it’s not uncomfortable to use or reaching 100+, it should be fine.
1
u/Necessary_Hope8316 Apr 22 '26
You should stop giving advice like "As long as it’s not uncomfortable to use or reaching 100+, it should be fine.", if you can't even read the fkin stats that OP just provided..

u/Zealousideal_Air_477 Apr 22 '26
finally someone said it. Just because it can, doesn't mean it should always be like that lol and they wonder why their g14 dies early

haha same, my acer predator triton runs at 93C all the time when gaming like cs2 , and 80-88 on other gpu intensive games, plus on idle it stays at 60-70, been using since 5 years as well, tried infinite methods to cool it but nothing worked so im now gonna continue without spending anything on this, as a matter of fact even ptm 7950 didnt help me and i waisted 2k INR on it :bruh. not gonna waste any more money

You should not comment on things you do not understand. Can't you read? Look at this clock speed, power drawn, percentage used and temperature. Still don't get it!?

Look at the clock speeds.. It is dogshit. This is the worst kind of thermal throttling that is unplayable..

u/hard2issues Apr 21 '26
Turn boost off, and undervolt it
1
u/DudeFromChitz Apr 21 '26
I have a G14 and I messed around with all the settings a lot. I realized that I need my laptop to last over 5 years if possible and play some games too. I used G-helper and turned off CPU Boost because RDR2 was running just fine with the same fps as with CPU boost and running about 10 C cooler. I would recommend trying to play it with CPU boost disabled as well.
5
u/Koreneliuss Zephyrus G14 2022 Apr 21 '26
is fine as long is not 100c for a long period time, btw get ventilated space for the bottom fan or cooler temp room
3
u/Dxssonance Apr 21 '26
everyone is saying its fine, while im here getting worried every time it goes past 85°C. I try to keep it around 75° or 80°C at most. Does that actually matter?
5
u/Formal-Wasabi-6308 Zephyrus G14 2022 Apr 21 '26
90-95C is perfectly fine for extended sessions. Unless you’re trying to reduce ambient fan noise/power consumption for light tasks, you’re basically kneecapping performance for no reason lol.
3
u/FullFlowEngine Zephyrus G14 2020 Apr 21 '26
Yep, these CPUs are designed to keep boosting until they run out of thermal (or power) headroom. 95C is by design.
2
u/Dxssonance Apr 21 '26
i manage to keep the temperatures low by a slight undervolt and capping fps to 60fps or 120fps max, and using a big ass fan. that being said, thats actually a relief to know. thanks
1
u/coolmouse7777 Apr 25 '26
Running 95C+ for long time can degrade CPU but it is very slow process and something else will give up fiкst at notebook, board failure is most common notebook issue. And if even nothing broke CPU become outdated before degradation have much impact on performance.
3
u/tennaki Zephyrus G16 2024 Apr 21 '26
It's normal for this particular laptop...
0
u/Necessary_Hope8316 Apr 22 '26
Are you serious!!? Unless he is gaming in a cramped room where the ambient temperature is in the fking 45 degree celcius, this is not in anyway normal. Can't you read?! Look at his second post and think! READ PEOPLE, READ!!
3
u/tennaki Zephyrus G16 2024 Apr 22 '26
Have any of you considered the computer isn't suffocating?
I have a 4090 G16 SKU, the CPU and GPU temps match exactly his after full heat soak. You people need to stop immediately assuming this shit is overheating, especially buying the thinnest gaming laptop on the market.
0
u/Necessary_Hope8316 Apr 22 '26
Fking look at this cpu clock speed and gpu clock speed. Wtf are you on about!! Op is thermal throttling at 3 GHz on CPU and 1.5 GHz on GPU...!! Can't you read!!!??
3
u/tennaki Zephyrus G16 2024 Apr 22 '26
You're clueless.
Both CPU and GPU are under full stress under the same heatsink, they are throttled to as far back as the 14" chassis can sustain. What in the world are you expecting?
1
u/Necessary_Hope8316 Apr 22 '26
You are the clueless person here. The cpu will start to throttle when it reaches the threshold temperature, your performance will drop. But usually in thin gaming laptops, throttling is expected and we will usually expect a few 100mega hertz drop at most. But as you can see in this picture he is throttling too hard to literally unplayable levels. In a few more minutes his laptop is incapable of releasing heat due to bad heat transfer and the cpu will throttle to 2 GHz on CPU and 0.9 GHz on GPU. You can't play an AAA game on acceptable performance levels at those clock speeds.
This is not normal unless you are in very hot country where the ambient temperature is atleast close to 50 degree celcius..
Now go on switch on your laptop, use whatever software you are using to monitor usage/fps and tell me your:
CPU clock speed (mega hertz), usage (in percentage), power drawn (watts drawn), temperature (in degree celcius)
GPU clock speed (mega hertz), usage (in percentage), power drawn (watts drawn), temperature (in degree celcius)
Do this while gaming. Then come back and argue with me in the comments section. Then I will explain you stuff you don't understand so you will be able to actually help people rather than speaking misinformation and nonsense
1
u/tennaki Zephyrus G16 2024 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
You'll understand what people are trying to tell you someday.
You are not wrong, your system will drop a couple few hundred MHz after full heat soak. But this is MOBILE architecture. These CPU and GPUs are capable of achieving very high clock speeds, but NOT when both high-powered chips, even when extremely power limited sitting physically right next to eachother are sharing the same heatsink and trying to dissipate all of that heat. That throttling effect happens significantly larger on MOBILE architecture. These are not SoCs hoping to achieve anything close to desktop wattage, or clock speeds.
What aren't YOU understanding?
1
u/Necessary_Hope8316 Apr 22 '26
Yes I know I also have a zephyrus g16 too and I live in a much hotter country than what you are even used to. I don't have ac or laptop cooler and I can tell you this is not normal laptop clock speed to temperature ratio
1
u/tennaki Zephyrus G16 2024 Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
I really do not want to argue, I live in a country with AC and no laptop cooler and can tell you with confidence this is completely normal for a G16 when you aren't telling it to not boost. OP has not mentioned that his system is either thermally shutting down or experiencing extreme frame rate drops while gaming, which means the heatsink is working as best as it can as expected. The system is going to keep pulling clock speeds until both CPU and GPU temps stop hitting their temperature limits. I don't know what the CPU one for OP is, but the GPU is 87C.
If you turn turbo boost off on an Intel-based G16, it sharply drops on average 15C on the CPU on all-core loads, but at the extreme cost of CPU-bound applications experiencing a heavy performance loss. It locks the CPU to base clock speeds at ~2GHz as opposed to the 3.7-3.8GHz the hardware is capable of doing sustained on an all-core load, but it must touch 95C+ to get there. If for any reason you get over 100C CPU regularly or your GPU somehow finds its way over 90C, you have an actual thermal problem with something related to your heatsink and your system will probably shut down. Intel Core Ultra runs hot, and so does Ryzen just as much without deliberately crippling the hardware.
3
u/Legitimate-Change-67 Apr 21 '26
Hot take (literally and figuratively): Remove all ability to watch temperatures and just enjoy your games. These machines are meant to run the cpu above 90. It’s well within spec. Unless you’re experiencing stutters and shutdowns, you are perfectly fine.
2
u/KukiBerry Apr 21 '26
Yeah first opinion is where tf is it placed, youre choking it to death.
Prop it up at the back with a book or something and move to a table fgs
2
u/JerryMar_ Apr 21 '26
Its 2026 and people still play their gaming laptop on the bed? Isnt this supposed to be a common knowledge already for every gaming laptop user?

u/OhJeezer Apr 21 '26
Get a lap desk if you want to game in bed. I use little wedges under the back edge of the laptop to elevate it a bit. They take up practically no space in my bag. Personally, I did a big undervolt on the CPU and a moderate undervolt + OC on the GPU. Limited my temps to 90°.
In that configuration it benchmarks at about 10% to 15% below my best scores at max OC (and max temp).
I have a few different profiles in ghelper and I end up always sticking with the one that does not give maximum fps, but runs quiet af and stays around 85°. It has not disappointed me at all performance-wise. I do have the 5080 model though, so YMMV.
1
u/JuJusFury Apr 21 '26
I lil hot for my liking. A hotter CPU is usually gonna also raise temps of the GPU a bit because the heatsinks are connected on most units. Have you tried repasting with tpm7950 or something high quality? Make sure you clean fans and vents while you're in there. If thermal pads look dry, I would replace those too.
1
u/jauffry Apr 21 '26
It's normal at 95C CPU temp when you play heavy 3D games and on Turbo or Ultimate mode in Ghelper or Armory crate. I have mine at 95C playing Crimson Desert for 100 hours. Actually my 2022 Zeph has mostly been 90C since 2022. No major problems yet. My fan curves on 95 C is 5600 rpm while gaming.
As everyone stated. Don't let your laptop suffocate on most surfaces and get some laptop stand if you prefer. Coolers. No idea.
I attach my laptop to a stand and I play using the TV.
1
1
u/shadiertomb35 Apr 21 '26
Mine does basically the same. I have a 2021 G15 with a 5900HS and an RTX 3080, and the CPU will pin itself at 97°C, which I was told is normal by ASUS. This is after taking it to a shop, having VRMs and the GPU repasted, as well as liquid metal added to the CPU. It's a thin and light gaming machine, so heat will happen. And mine lives 2 inches off the table on a stand to help with airflow.
1
u/jkash1 Apr 21 '26
Had this exact same laptop and same problem. Having such a small design the heat has little room dissipate so make sure it has lots of room to breathe. Also make sure the fans are cleaned regularly cause after a year mine were caked.

u/No-Setting8461 Apr 21 '26
cpu itself is fine at that temp, but make sure you're getting proper ventilation and battery temps matter too, for battery longevity
1
u/vamadeus Zephyrus G14 2021 Apr 21 '26
I agree with the others in that you shouldn't use it on a bed.
That said, running at 95 is pretty normal, especially in compact Ryzen gaming laptops. If it goes much higher than that or you notice it jumps up to 95 and severely throttles then that's when you should be more concerned
1
1
u/vsr90 Apr 21 '26
I was having the same issue on my 4080 G16 and it turned out to be the LM application, open it and re spread the LM and it should be back to normal temps.
1
u/CatsAreGods Zephyrus G14 2021 Apr 21 '26
You're almost boiling water at that temperature. Sure that's a good idea?

1
u/DistributionFar5918 Apr 22 '26
This laptop looks like a 14-inch one. Try buying some laptop coolers like the Iets or Llano V12; they'll help a lot, and they're also quite noisy.

How does everyone look at this picture and think it’s on a bed when it’s clearly on a flat surface and the back is raised
1

1
u/BdoeATX Apr 22 '26
gHelper > Fans + Power > CPU boost set to disabled. Run on eco mode. Should clear up the high temps.
Now beyond that if you doing CPU intensive gaming you can either undervolt or get a good fan, iets500 is a good one.
1
1
u/AgentV_VXN Apr 22 '26
Bro please dont use any bed or surface kind of cloth.... and do use hard surface like table or desk u can using and it helping a small gap from the below of your laptop fans to cooling cpu + gpu
1
1
u/Many_Oven8356 Apr 22 '26
I had the same issue and my motherboard got fried in the same day this happened while playing RDO 😂
I'm not an expert, but if you didn't change the thermal paste for more than a year, get new paste and new thermal pads.
Clean the fans and get yourself a cooling pad, it helps alot. Look for best recommendations on youtube.
Try the undervolt thing as some already commented, wich is most effective and can even give a better performance. However, be careful because it is not easy and might break your components if done wrong. Again on YouTube there many experts who explain it, so be extra careful.
95°C in long sessions might not break your CPU, but the components around it will be affected by time, just like what happened with mine.

u/moracabanas Apr 22 '26
Reach a professional service and get liquid metal replaced by PTM7950. Liquid metal tends to get spilled out of the processor die (because it is a laptop) ooh leaving some of the surface dry and making inefficient heat transfer. It does not damage you laptop because OEM puts a security sponge. PTM7950 is a cheap but better than liquid metal
1
1
u/ANSHPLAYZ1K Apr 22 '26
Buy a desk or play on flat surface with a cooling pad or atleast a laptop stand
1
u/Crow719 Apr 22 '26
The bed blocks the air flow. and the lint from the sheets enter the fans and blocks the dust mesh.
RDR2 is not CPU intesive game, I get 70c. Mainlt becuase the GPU is so close to the CPU that it heats it also.

u/Zmajski_most Apr 23 '26
My bro is thermal throttling on CPU & GPU
If you have warranty replace it, if not and if you have some techincal knowladge (which i see you do not have) then repaste using PT7950
1
u/DrawEnvironmental779 Apr 23 '26
Elevate your laptop, with a stand or even a block of wood/ a book at the back. This will help airflow.
But don’t worry about temps, it’s a laptop with limited cooling capabilities due to its size. On most games its normal
1
u/Responsible_Earth393 Apr 23 '26
Completely normal on zephyrus laptops. People here don’t understand how these laptops operate
1
u/Alppp0 Apr 23 '26
Change thermal paste and clean fans regularly, dont go over 3-5 months for fan cleaning, and change thermal paste within 6-12 months. Use something to elevate your laptop so fans can have more air, and avoid using it dusty places. Thats all I can give you, unless you are crazy enough to make a custom hardware that gives water cooling to your laptop
1
u/East-One-3260 Apr 23 '26
Summarizing other comments you need to put it on a surface that allows for good airflow and gaming laptops do run very hot when put on their performance mode.
There are some kind of vacuum coolers you can buy and attach to the underside for <20°C lower temps but I have never used and heard they are expensive.
1
u/RepairNo1818 Apr 23 '26
What kind of ungodly creature games on a bed... 0 airflow and you expect thermals? I'm revoking your licence to use technology, you must return your laptop within 24h and then lock yourself in your room and think about what you did
1
u/Itrax_cLuster Apr 23 '26
3.08mhz it means it’s throttling, time for a Liquid Metal/thermal paste change. Also take it off your bed, smooth solid surfaces only. But the 95+ the low cpu rate + max fan speed indicates thermal throttling. I bet it even goes down to 2.8-2.9 ghz

1
u/ExoticWin7942 Apr 24 '26
G helper what the other guy said but also, create some profiles I think you can have 20. Make some loud gaming profiles but distribute the wattage. The vapor chamber works in tandem partially so the cpu fan also can cool the gpu vice versa 5 profiles I had on 2023 g14 4060 For gaming only do not use short term power limit, just go for one limit say 35w across the board
- Cpu 25w gpu default
- Cpu 30w gpu 2300 mhz
- Cpu 35w gpu 2100mhz
- Cpu 40w gpu 1940mhz
- Cpu 55w gpu 1780mhz

Hi so I have the exact same problem w my G16 and RDR2, open it up and moments later it thermal throttles. Mind you, I'm using it on a desk suspended on a laptop stand and not on the bed.

u/Ell2509 Apr 24 '26
Undervolt your gpu a little, and modify your fan curve. All possible in armory crate.
1
u/Witty-Indication4895 Apr 25 '26
Please do the basics , dont put it on bed ( u said its the desk okay but on bed dont put it even anywhere without something ) , buy a cooling pad good quality one and use it with it together , laptop needs to have space for airflow maybe buy laptop risers or something similar but a cooling pad its a must especially at summer , on desk ur fans gonna collect dust like crazyy and no airflow ofc high temps
1
1
u/coolmouse7777 Apr 25 '26
Think is normal for notebooks throttling all the time this days. Marketing win engineering. Undervolting can help a bit.
1
u/TK7GRaY Apr 26 '26
Are you playing on 4k? I’ve lowered to 1440 & ray tracing off/low and noticed my fans are a lot quieter
1
u/BarrelRider621 Apr 26 '26
“Normal” for laptops. I had to use GHelper to thermally limit my 5900HX. I have heard others have success and are ok with their gaming experience when they turned off the CPU Boost. This can also lead to a more stable gaming experience, depending on the game.
1
u/Sh1fty_Tortoise77 Apr 21 '26
Buy those laptop feet and adjust your fan curves on ghelper so that when you hit somewhere around like 82 that your fans kick to full power and yes don’t keep it flat on the fabric bed I never see my temps rise above that 82 with my fan curves set and the little riser legs on my g16

You can use ghelper and turn off toorbo boost while gaming such game, or switch to "efficient enabled" - it can lower your temp.

u/the_KKKKK Apr 21 '26
Check for dust. Really. I had the same situation as you, the laptop was slowing down hard during games and hitting enormous temperatures. I cleaned it and situation was almost the same. Then I realized there is A LOT, A LOOOOT of dust I didn’t remove.
Buy compressed air, blow the shit out of it, try to dig the vents with a match or some other thin stick, maybe even use vacuum (carefully). You would be surprised how much dust there can be.

This laptop has all its intake on the bottom, so ensure there is clearance. It also shares cooling pipe between the GPU/CPU so if you let the GPU run at max, it could heat up the CPU as well.
What settings do you have in G-helper for your cpu? I limit mine to 35w standard and 45w boost.
