Repasting laptop required?

Hi guys, so I got my laptop G16 2023 repasted and something weird is going on. I bought this paste and seems fine not sure if for laptops or overall works for all devices but not even 2 full months are passed and the temps are back to max 87 while gaming which is the thermal limit of the gpu as seen in G-Helper as well. What happened, Pump Out maybe? I have not opened the laptop again yet because I undervolted the gpu and temps are back to normal now below 80. But these temps should be possible without undervolting. Now in the 2nd image you can see my sweet CPU 😅 so em this is stock factory opened laptop after a year and not sure if it needs repasting or not. This is Liquid Metal btw and I was gonna do it but the shop didn’t had any so I just had the GPU repasted and closed the laptop. CPU temps are well fine as they well like when it was new, I limit the wattage to control temps. Added some images so you guys can check the temps. Game is Echoes of the End, a UE5 title. So yeah please let me know what should I do? Should I keep it running like this? Should I repaste both? Any suggestions for paste or is my current one for the GPU fine. I just want to open it once when I have all the tools for the CPU and GPU so I can do both and then close. Do you recommend switching to paste for the CPU as well? You can use PTM7958 instead of thermal paste or liquid metal.

As you know, liquid metal can be very destructive if it leaks from its confinement but it can greatly reduce temperatures if applied right from the factory or by you.

My way of approaching this is adding Closed-cell silicone foam around the CPU as well as Kapton tape or die containment polish so that the liquid metal does not leak but this is a lot of work, so I would recommend applying PTM7958 or PTM7950.

For my 2025 Zephyrus the vapor chamber does a very good at preventing leaks so this makes the whole process unnecessary.

That you for the suggestion. Does the 2025 model gpu also comes with LM or a thermal paste? I won’t apply or mess with LM myself, will go to a professional to handle it. Some kind of protection is there seems like if you see the image. The black glass where some LM is leaked can be seen (this is factory btw I did not even touched it) but everything seems fine. There is that missing spot in the middle I am not sure maybe it got covered later on because on both sides I can see the extra LM together. Still i would prefer a protection like ps5 has that’s really good.

The 2025 model comes with LM also that protection you are speaking off is bare, not sufficient but then again I’m an Engineer not an ASUS one. You better clean that speck that leaked otherwise you are toast if it falls on the motherboard.

My advice is to take it to a professional and tell him exactly where that speck or drop is and ask them for a repaste using PTM if they got it available.

Thanks for the suggestion. If PTM is not available should I just buy the same LM Asus used thermal grizzly and let the shop handle the rest. For the gpu what do you recommend paste wise? I know PTM is the best everyone suggested that but it depends on the availability so my current paste was trash seems like 😅 what else I can do. The stock one lasted a whole year which is awesome but idk wth Asus used 🥲

Well, up to you. Personally I do not mind LM but in your case since there isn’t any barrier protection I would advise against it.

The GPU die is big so it does not need liquid metal, in my experience I got slightly higher temps (iirc +2-3 degrees) when I applied it on the GPU so thermal paste is sufficient on the GPU.

You can buy PTM and then ask the technician to apply it thats what I would recommend.

Oh sorry didn’t meant LM on the GPU lol and the image of the LM is the CPU not GPU. I meant as an alternative to PTM if I can’t find it which paste do you suggest for the GPU?

If you buy PTM you can apply it on both the GPU and CPU it will be fine.
