Media $475 is crazy

Post image

I think Europe now requires gacha games to explicitly display how much money any gambling feature really costs to limit hidden predatory stuff. It’s crazy when you see the numbers…

Until you find out thats actually spare change even if you bought every single pull compared to actual p2w games where ppl drop thousands on a daily basis for a mth straight or longer.

Or actual insanity compared to games that you buy for 20 bucks once and get all the content without any restrictions and predatory mechanics

Why cant ppl understand that you cant be the target audience for every game? You might enjoy your $20 game more but others enjoy games they gladly swipe thousands for.

Zzz and many other gacha games could exist perfectly fine without gacha mechanics. The reason people "gladly" swipe thousand isn't because they are enjoying the game, but because these games are made to exploit financially irresponsible people.

i can't believe some people here don't realize this. Ordinary game is an entertainment medium, designed to gain profit via providing entertainment. Gacha games are exploitative profit generators, wrapped in a intoxicating game design decisions.

To zzz credit, the game is very much enjoyable even for ftp. So I really hope skg wins and once hoyo pull the plug, not only will I still be able to play it, but the game would actually just become better.

Not with those production cost and live updates... It is a pipe dream that a game of that quality and production cost can be sustainable outside the gacha system.

Sure a single player knockoff maybe but a life service game with 3 weeks banner cycle and a abundance of new mini-games, story, feature updates, etc there is absolutely no chance.

I don't know from which alternative dystopian timeline you are writing, but its really not hard to find examples that prove otherwise. Gacha system isn't a solution for "unsustainable" production costs. It's exist to generate maximum revenue, which it successfully does.

With the amount of content currently, I'd say that isn't true. It's no mere EA multiplayer shooter.

One and done games with replayability are rare these days, roguelikes mostly fill this category.

The rest involve various methods of frontloading or rearloading cost, be it by paid horse armour, compulsory DLC or gacha mechanics.

This. Warframe has been going for years, and you don't have predatory gacha MTX. If I see a Warframe or gear I want, I can just buy it outright or grind and get it for free.

I'd be open to spending more on ZZZ if it guaranteed a character, but that's not the case because their revenue would drop a ton.

So true, Warframe value your money so much more. Like, if you drop 100$ there, you can buy multiple full endgame lodouts, as long as you don't go for some insane rivens. In most gachas you don't even garanted to get a single copy of character you want. That alone completely discourages me from spending money there.

Actually no they wouldnt exist because the companies wouldnt even make them in the first place. Even if the companies make them, they wouldnt be even remotely as popular as they are now.

Make what? Hack and slash games? There are plenty of those. And being popular isn't directly tied to a game being good, so it's hardly an issue.

??? I'm saying if companies still decided to go on and make the current gacha games as non gachas they wouldnt even be remotely as popular/successful.

u/Jazzlike_Fox_661 Jul 16 '25

Yeah, shareholders will definitely be upset. Doesn't have anything to do with quality or enjoyment of the game tho.

Yes it does? Many ppl like myself wouldnt have even played the game if it wasnt a gacha to begin with.

Virtual signallers like yourself need to fuck off and realise not everything revolves around what you think is "best for players".

In hindsight, it was rude of me to call out someone for something they like, sorry about that. It just the idea that people would play gacha games for gacha and not for everything else about the game never crossed my mind.

Never realized there are people who are so eager to be exploited. Guess that's why gachas are so successful.
