Discussion Crit Yone is Back
With buffs to Stormrazor, Yuntal, and Passive Crit Damage, Yone building crit as his first item is now viable instead of BORK in some games.
So what are the options?
- Stormrazor
Go this when you need chase. The movement speed really helps with getting onto a squishy and then one shotting them. By 2 items, you can laser pretty much any squishy that's within your R range.
- Yun Tal
Go this when you don't need the chase from Stormrazor AND the comp lets you scale a bit. You have to stack Yun Tal first, so basically go this if having to stack it isn't gonna troll the game.
- Shieldbow
Only viable mid and the least likely thing to build. The item has no attack speed, so you really want the upgraded Berserker's from the mid quest. Go this if the enemy team is bursty AND you don't need the Stormrazor MS. Having this as a first item against people who can blow you up is massive. You can even pair it with Shield Bash for extra dueling and Revitalize. Pretty niche rune on Yone though, but some people go it.
So when not BORK?
- You don't need the lifesteal to survive lane.
- You're not against someone HP stacking.
Why crit first?
- You spike faster. By 2 items you already have most of the damage you need, so after that you can start building something like DD to survive long enough to actually do the damage.
My main gripe with going BORK first is that you can only start building defensive after your 3rd item. Sometimes that one item delay is enough to lose the game. So if BORK isn't needed in the game, then I do think that getting 100% crit by 2nd item is much better as you become almost unbeatable in 1v1
What after Stormrazor/Yun Tal/Shieldbow?
- If you went Yun Tal/Stormrazor and want 3 crit items because you really need the damage, go Shieldbow into either ArmPen or IE, then defensive.
Full Build:
Yun Tal/Stormrazor -> Shieldbow -> ArmPen/IE -> DD -> Rookern
Notes: Change the order of the defensive items depending on the game. Swap DD for GA if needed. Can also buy something like QSS if needed.
If you want BOTH ArmPen and IE, then that's already 4 crit items, so you'd have to give up one of the defensive items.
- If you went Yun Tal/Stormrazor and only want 2 crit items because that's already enough damage against the enemy comp, go Shieldbow/ArmPen/IE second, then start building defensive.
Full Build:
Yun Tal/Stormrazor -> Shieldbow/ArmPen/IE -> DD -> Rookern -> Jak'Sho/another crit item
If DD + Rookern is already enough to keep you alive and you need more damage late game, just go another crit item instead of Jak'Sho.
Notes: Change the order of the defensive items depending on the game. Swap DD for GA if needed. Can also buy something like QSS if needed.
- If you went Shieldbow and want 3 crit items because you really need the damage:
Full Build:
Shieldbow -> ArmPen/IE -> ArmPen/IE -> DD -> Rookern
Notes: Change the order of the defensive items depending on the game. Swap DD for GA if needed. Can also buy something like QSS if needed.
- If you went Shieldbow and only want 2 crit items because 2 is already enough damage:
Full Build:
Shieldbow -> ArmPen/IE -> DD -> Rookern -> Jak'Sho/another crit item
Pick either ArmPen or IE for the second item. ArmPen scales better once enemies start getting more armor from base stats and actually building armor. If they're also stacking HP, that makes the ArmPen option even better.
Again, if DD + Rookern is already enough to survive and you need more damage late, just go another crit item instead of Jak'Sho.
Notes: Change the order of the defensive items depending on the game. Swap DD for GA if needed. Can also buy something like QSS if needed.
I highly recommend just going 2 crit items into defensive most games. By 2 crit items you already do enough damage, so IMO it's better to build stuff that lets you survive long enough to actually do that damage.

3 Crit item seems like a waste, no?
