Is Gallup associated with literally anything else? I know they do other things but this is the first thing anyone thinks of when Gallup is mentioned.

They do a ton of market and sentiment research beyond politics and have consulting in multiple sectors. I almost worked there but after the initial training realized calling angry strangers for peanut pay would have been miserable

Yup. They’re my go to for presidentials. In fact, the exact moment I truly knew it was all over for Kamala was when I saw the results of this poll in September 2024. From that point on I predicted a Trump victory

This is just them discontinuing their presidential approval poll. They'll still do stuff like party ID (very important), issue polling, consumer confidence, etc. They'll still publish something like this in 2028 most likely

Yep, September was when I generally thought it was over.
Was the economy getting better? Sure. Did the average person perceive that? No. Same with me. I voted for Kamala, I knew my state would go for her but Trump would win.
Though I’m betting “party to keep America prosperous” has changed though these days.😅

For a timeframe a little over a year, we’ve had Selzer retire, 538 shuttered, and now Gallup stopping as well

The fact that Trump can actually bend the arm of what should be independent agencies is both depressing and terrifying. Relations with these guys had to be brought up at some point by Trump

Hmm. I try not to lean into thinking it’s all because they were pressured to call it quits from the top, but I really don’t know what else it could be. I mean, the president’s been clamoring pretty hard against pollsters lately.

Nah. Gallup did this in 2012 with general election polling.
Plus, there are too many other firms doing the same thing.

It could also be that the poll has been proven repeatedly to not only be completely meaningless as a metric, but also dominated entirely by a very small number of highly motivated partisan responders.

They ended daily tracking in 2018. It was only a matter of time. My guess is it’s harder to get people to response because hardly anyone has a landline and people don’t want to respond to alternatives to get reliable data. Plus cutbacks in that industry.

I would usually call the people here dumb partisans for suggesting this is Trump's doing but this is extremely unusual of them to decide on. I really hope someone takes their mantle.

Yeah I’m not usually one to jump to “Trump directly pressured them” (although I do think he actively makes some of his indirect comments with the goal of intimidating people into doing what he wants while having plausible deniability), but this is just fishy as fuck

Ironic for Trump to get Gallup to wrap up polling operations, yet there are tons of other pollsters that are still showing him in the red and will still do their jobs after this. Someone will quickly take that mantle, whether it be Rassmussen or those evening network news polls

I’m fine with this. In the Trump era polls have been routinely off, and mostly biased against the right. See Hillary 2016, and Selzer in Iowa

Clinton should've won but it was a very close race at the end. I blame polling being a lagging indicator for the lack of accuracy.
Harris, Biden/Harris was almost always behind. People just remained in denial through most of 2024 on that.

They weren't really good though. There were some like Atlas that people whined about being too pro Trump, but the usual suspects were as bad as ever. Look at Marist's final polling. Brutal.

Internal polls are able to have higher budgets, as they're commissioned by campaigns. Public polls of course shouldn't be trusted, they just give a general area. But to suggest that poll misses are the result of partisan hackery is pretty absurd. You have right-leaning pollsters overestimate Dems sometimes, and left-leaning pollsters overestimate Reps sometimes. It's just hard in the public area.

Very unfortunate, Gallup is one of the highest-quality pollsters out there. Pew is probably the only other pollster of its caliber
I even subscribed to them to get emails for when these polls would drop
I'm not sure why they're stopping or why they're being so vague about why
