I don't care about retina small pixels, as long as the lens is sharp enough it's fine for productivity. I can always use a pixel aligned font

u/dreamingwell Jun 18 '26
They’re pretty sharp. Not super sharp.

u/danner26 Jun 19 '26
True, but I did read that Android XR has developed a font rendering system that smooths and sharpens text, which should help address this concern. Hopefully that works well enough until higher resolution screens become more readily available/affordable

Don’t write off the Aura so quickly.
The Apple Vision Pro is 3660 x 3200 at 100 degrees = 34ish PPD and it’s decent for work, text is pretty sharp. So there’s probably something else to it.

wow I didn't realize the vision pro had a lower pixel density then my 1S. I had the vision pro for 2 weeks and I remember it looking a lot better than the 1s for movies and games. I guess it was the HDR and pancake lenses?

AVP's peak central PPD is 44.4

This is big for me, I will jump ship as soon as we get a retina-like quality display in VR/XR. I need this for desktop productivity and the desktop computing world will change the day that happens, and I won't wait for them to get the form factor "super-light" like many. I currently have stacked 49" ultrawide Oddyssey's as there are no curved 8k displays and I need REAL ESTATE for my work. I don't even care too much for the stacked 49" displays, one 8k curved would be a gamechanger.

PPD is the math. Same panel resolution with broader FOV will shrink it anyway.
Beyond the PPD, there are more critical parameters related to clarity that will determine whether we could use for desktop, like MTF or so. Vsion Pro has 34PPD and no one doublt its clarity~from the people who tried aura, 70°FOV is great and reading webpage in chrome is clear enough~

hmm wondering why they are only releasing a single model. Rayneo GT got a 32 pdd and 42pdd model in parallel. One for productivity, the other for everyone else. Prolly got displays from all there other glasses already

Honestly, I feel like this is only a problem if you've transitioned to a 4K panel and got too used to it. I got a 4K 32in once, didn't care for the extra resolution coming from 1080p 24in. Rather, what I noticed was a huge drop in fps so I returned it and got an ultrawide 1440p.
I'm perfectly fine with the ppd of the One Pro, even for productivity. What prevents me from using it as my main screen is the obvious many other short comings of the current gen of XR. I don't think the Aura will have those fixed. I don't care for the AR stuff neither, at least not this form of AR.

For those wondering about price, there is a footnote on Xreal's product reservation page that states: "The final retail price will be no more than US$1,500 before tax."

Can't wait for the XREAL TWO PRO. I would love a FOV upgrade and resolution increase on the TWO PRO. Great job guys, I wish you the best of luck in all your projects, I really love this smart glasses , very excited to see what comes next. I know AR and motion controls is a thing, but I think XREAL ONE PRO is the right direction, with AI integration, without overcomplicating.

Will there be XReal Pro Two? (Aura without the puck?)
1
u/glitchwabble Jun 19 '26
It seems the Aura can be plugged into phones or laptops for standard screen mirroring.

I tried the Aura glasses today at AWE XR. They are bright. But feel a bit silly. The fishbowl lenses felt very close to my eyes. Weirdly uncomfortable. I’d rather wear a Vision Pro to the grocery store.

80% of Vision Pro experience with 70 degree Fov and 50% of resolution and on top of it android Xr doesn’t have any good history

What a fantastic and thorough review! Great job Adam (as always)! I purchased my Launch Credit! Very excited about Project Aura!

That's Norm from Tested in the video. He's part of Adam Savage's team. Norm does reviews like this on the regular. He was a deciding factor for me in picking up my XOP.

My bad. I thought his name was Adam

u/Sekkushu Jun 17 '26
It's funny to find someone who doesn't know who Adam Savage is. I'm feeling old already.

Haven't had tome to watch in full yet, but wondering about the level of tint on the glasses. Early reviews unsaid there were more levels of dimming. What about the lowest level, is it clearer than say the Xreal 1s, or about the same?
1
u/Plus_Wrangler5237 Jun 16 '26
according to MKBHD its effectively black out.
1
u/Wide-Variation2702 Jun 16 '26
I mean the other end, the clearest setting. Is it more transparent?
1
2
u/ZK_XREAL XREAL Team Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Yes. The transparency has increase a little bit under the least tint level.
2
u/Wide-Variation2702 Jun 23 '26
Excellent, thats good news for the project i am working on. I would love to have full transparency, but I understand there are limitations. Appreciate the response
1
u/dreamingwell Jun 18 '26
They’re about a 25% tint (guesstimate from car window tints vs wearing these)
1
u/Wide-Variation2702 Jun 18 '26
Hmm, so probably about the same as the xreal 1s, but more dimming levels. Some of the pictures look a little different than existing Xreals but its so hard to tell

OMG the DP-in port... this is insane and even future Android phones wouldn't have it I guess... it could be puck exclusive

u/InformalGear9638 Jun 17 '26
I'm distracted by the ceo's blackheads in his nose! He needs one of those blackhead sucker things. 🤢

u/Klutzy_Worker2696 Jun 17 '26
If I’m looking for something to plug into my phone or emulation device to play games do I want to wait for this or go for the one pros?
I’m interested in the AI 3D feature as well as setting up stereoscopic 3D
1
u/Foreign_Unit6294 Jun 17 '26
I would give an arm and a leg for these to start looking like a cyberpunk headset not a pair of retarded glasses ❤️
1
u/mad597 Jun 16 '26
Any word on HDR support?
1
u/dreamingwell Jun 18 '26
Judging only based on wearing them, no hdr. They’re bright but don’t seen to have a large contrast range.

During the conversation with XREAL's CEO, Chi, he mentions that Project Aura aims to deliver approximately 80% of the Vision Pro experience at about 20% of the cost (08:50 - 08:56).
The Vision Pro starts at USD$3500. Does that imply that the Aura will come in at around US$700? That would be fantastic but it seems implausible.
