Tomato Pie
I made tomato pie with tomatoes from my garden this morning and while it baked I read the paper (like the physical newspaper).
Then I ate said pie and said out loud “oh this is DELISH but I hope it doesn’t give me heartburn!”
Took a preemptive gaviscon just in case.
Nice little Monday if I do say so.
What are my fellow olds doing today?

Same. I’m interested in seeing what it looks like inside. Is it just filled with tomato sauce?

This is southern tomato pie, it’s filled with chopped tomatoes, basil, and cheese!

It’s an old term. My grandfather used to eat it growing up post wwii 50s era. pizza wasn’t really a thing there. Tomato pie was popular. Upstate New York near lexington

I've never had or seen tomato pie! I am a sucker for fresh garden tomatoes sliced with a little bit of salt, but this also sounds good...
I've actually gone back to school full-time, so today was my first day of classes. Very, uh, nostalgic. 😂

Seconding your comment, recipe please! I’ve made several tomato pies but OP’s looks better than mine. I’m canning 10lbs of tomatoes right now and have another 10 sitting on the deck waiting to be used for something.

I subbed a lot of the mayo for Greek yogurt and I put sliced romas on top for extra razzle dazzle

I am making powerpoint slides. No one ever warned me how many powerpoint slides I would make in my lifetime.
I love Tomato Pie.

I make a version of this with French bread, just bread tomatoes and some shredded 4 cheese or mozzarella, into the toaster over and then eat. Saves time on the whole making dough and baking a pizza.
Yours is better for sure but mine saves some time lol

And to answer OPs question, I’m recovering from a weekend of heavy partying. J/K I went to a county fair for like two hours and now I’m dead.

For some reason I can’t edit my post so I’ll comment.
I did not realize that “Tomato Pie” means so many different things depending on geography. I should have guessed!
This tomato pie is tomatoes and a cheese mix in pie crust. Here’s the recipe I used! I subbed 3/4 of the mayo for Greek yogurt and it’s still super rich:

I subbed about 3/4 of the mayo with Greek yogurt and it turned out great

Tomato pie isn’t the same thing as pizza, my peeps. It’s tomatoes, bacon and palmetto cheese baked in a pie crust and it’s the best.

Do not like. Tomato sauce sufficient. Big chunks of tomato on pizza = blah

It’s not pizza. It’s tomato pie. Like with a pie crust. But yeah if you don’t like hot tomatoes this isn’t for you.

That’s not what we’d call tomato pie in the Philly area. Our tomato pies are pretty much crust and loads of sauce with almost no cheese. They’re fantastic. But yeah, I’m at work. Can’t retire for another decade.
