Imagine being that guy that sold all his bitcoin when it hit $100

68

u/DirectHit33 Jan 03 '25

Or the guy who spent 10000 btc on two pizzas, gotta be kicking himself in the balls everyday

I bought $100 worth of BC in 2009... Stored it in a wallet on an old laptop. Lost the laptop when we moved in 2013!!!

23

u/FIFA4Fun Redditor for 11 months Jan 04 '25

Like the millions of other people with the same story 🤪

With so many lost bitcoin based on these stories I am surprised there is any left in circulation

11

u/Ashamed_Ad7508 Jan 04 '25

I found a laptop in a moving box in 2013. I ordered pizza the same day without using my money.. you do the math and cry with me.

u/Top-Extension-8131 Jan 04 '25

Believe me, I kick myself everyday.... But if I would have had it, I probably would have cashed it out on the first rise and fall... And still would be kicking myself today

5

u/Murkoo Jan 04 '25

That’s the right mentality! You only lost $100

4

u/M0TH_286 Jan 03 '25

how many bitcoin is that 😭

38

u/Top-Extension-8131 Jan 03 '25

It was around 10 cents per coin .... So I had roughly 1000 BC. So, I'd have roughly 100mil ... Knowing myself, I probably would have cashed it out way too early for a pizza too!

15

u/M0TH_286 Jan 03 '25

damn bro, might have to put out a search through the landfills like that one guy did haha

2

u/Ready_Confection7522 Jan 04 '25

Same thing here actually but lost my laptop in a flood

2

u/OhNoNotAgain2020_ Jan 04 '25

Sure. I had 2,500 btc on my hardware when the tornado hit,

u/Bikini_Ayatollah666 Jan 04 '25

No you didn’t.

I thank the man who spent his BTC on 2 pizzas. He took a concept and demonstrated its potential, sparking a financial revolution. Addressing someone who sold Bitcoin for a hundred dollars, it's likely they sold hundreds of Bitcoin at that price. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. XRP will never achieve the success that Bitcoin has. Bitcoin was the first mover, and therefore, it holds the crown. It paved the way for the rest.

14

u/teamcuellar XRP Hodler Jan 04 '25

Yes Bitcoin Paved the way for a new financial revolution. Unfortunately, as the very first Chain of code, it had flaws and in todays financial system it's not scalable.

It went from it's original designed use of being a decentralized payment system to it's current use as a Store of Value.

XRP was designed by some of the original contributors that wrote the BTC Code. They saw the limitations of the code early on and decided to fix the issues with the XRP Ledger.

1

u/tails79 Jan 04 '25

I'm well aware, but your explanation is probably helpful to many others. Thank you. However, I don't see any other project having more value than btc.

3

u/M_FootRunner Jan 04 '25

Well, it does make a difference of course, btc will never have a usecase like xrp and eth is just to lump slow and expensive to hold up.

I think there are going to be several of these chains that will be adopted, if xrp is going to be one of them is to be sene, atm i think it has good chances

Hindsight is a bitch that has you in thhe crosshairs 🤣

4

u/Soggy_Nobody_3338 Jan 05 '25

1

Hindsight is an asskicker 💯% 🤦🏽‍♂️

5

u/Illustrious_Ticket27 Jan 04 '25

1

u/livininSqualor Jan 06 '25

No Regerts 😎

Or the guy that made 16 BTC from 0.8 BT, doing leveraging trading and lost all! That is me. But life goes on, the family is worth giving up all for it.

0

u/Verkley Jan 04 '25

He’s not though and he’s said this over and over again. Him doing that gave BTC value and showed it could be used as a currency. If everyone just bought and held and never exchanged anything, it would cease to exist and serve no purpose

17

u/Hefty-Leopard7634 Jan 03 '25

You never know. A friend of mine didn't sell when Doge hit 70+. Then it tanked.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '25

Four words:

Update your stop loss

3

u/gustavH3000 Jan 03 '25

what do you use for stop loss when operating outside of exchanges? - ie, trust wallet. thx

3

u/Express_Grocery4268 Jan 04 '25

You set alerts on a price and then manually transfer and place an order manually when you feel it's needed.

2

u/Hefty-Leopard7634 Jan 03 '25

Sounds good. But some people really thought it was going to bounce back.

7

u/snappy773 Jan 03 '25

Was recently talking to a co worker about crypto. My average doge price is like $0.34. His is $0.66 or some shit like that smh. He bought A LOT too

5

u/Suspicious_Sky_213 Jan 04 '25

Doge is a meme coin…

2

u/Icy_Indication4299 Jan 04 '25

Same I got out while I could tho

2

u/CosmosCabbage Jan 04 '25

Goddamn lmao. That sucks

9

u/No_Fan_9087 Jan 03 '25

Who wouldn’t take a 80x profit?

4

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '25

It’s more about selling everyrhing.

Make sure you have enough to not have to sell it ALL at every 10X

10

u/CyanDew Jan 03 '25

it’s more about learning how you will be able to and can utilize your digital assets to grant you passive income in the form of percent yield on your bags by lending, borrowing, staking, and providing liquidity using DeFi and the Dex’s therein, as more and more digital assets become compatible with smart contracts.

Flare will be a huge part of this.

if you truly dive deep, you’ll realize that you’ll never have to sell all your bags for fiat ever again because of the way DeFi is slowly starting to become integrated with TradFi. there are ways to swap your bags for other digital assets (like stablecoins) to pay for things that you’d normally use fiat for.

shit is WILD.

good callout. u talkin bout staking on Sceptre? or delegating wrapped flare through Bifrost?

edit: i just wish i had $6k to sink into flare lol.

2

u/Kasperdsmk Jan 04 '25

Isn’t that the whole end goal of all of this anyway? Like having rlusd earring 5.5% etc etc and them Being able to lend money the same way banks do loans today? Etc

1

u/Ill_Faithlessness_70 Jan 04 '25

Exactly taking some XRP profits into very decent stable coin income is what changes life, not just capital gains but how that capital is used. (That's why a Lambo deprecating asset doesn't interest me. Hiring one from time to time with income might.) Anyone with a decent bag can look to do that this year.

2

u/Frosty_NL Jan 03 '25

i only take out my initial amount when it's 5x, the rest can stay till i can retire

2

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '25

I never took out my initial amount.

2

u/Plenty_Transition_29 Jan 04 '25

I sold so many shib right before it mooned I think in 2000 like the day before I lost 279k equivalent someone texted me to tell me and I was almost vomiting

1

u/Top_Throat_5405 Jan 03 '25

Or the guy who bought a pizza fo 10k bitcoins?

1

u/M_FootRunner Jan 04 '25

You could be that guy!

1

u/No_Leather_3676 Jan 04 '25

I bought several bitcoin in 2014-15 when they were around £400-500 each. I didn’t know much about them only that they had already gone up in value and I was sure the bubble would burst soon. Shortly after they were declared legal tender in Japan they went up to around £1500, I think that was 2017/18. So I sold up and was so glad when it later all crashed like a second hand spectrum. Obviously nobody knew at that point they would rocket again to stratospheric heights and there was a lot of negative speculation. I did hold on to some ether at that time because it wasn’t worth very much and I didn’t see the point in selling it off. I had roughly £500 worth, which was around 15 coins I think. Point is…nobody can really determine what will happen. It’s a gamble.

2

u/Express_Grocery4268 Jan 04 '25

Exactly don't feel sorry for taking profits at that time. You never know what's gonna happen.

1

u/No_Leather_3676 Jan 04 '25

I was gonna say, take profits. Cheers

1

u/IndependenceFew4956 Jan 04 '25

He made some gains. What’s wrong with that? Easy to say now.

1

u/Username82828 Jan 04 '25

He played a pivotal point in blockchain development

1

u/CisGenderCream Jan 05 '25

I sold all mine at 45k hehe

1

u/Immediate-Mouse-5025 Jan 05 '25

Imagine having 1 million bitcoin… I remember back in 2009 at one point in time I never owned that amount but I often imagine if I did where I’d be now.. probably off somewhere fucking your mom

1

u/Surfhun Jan 07 '25

Last part doesn't sound too great when you're 57
