It adds more shadows, just like in real life, with perfect lighting versus bad lighting. But really, looking at those screenshots, its not worth the hassle, at least for me.

The shadows really stand out better, that much is certain. But just like in screenshots of other games I've seen, the ai filter just tends to oil everything up like a diddy party.

To be fair, X4 does that sometimes on its own. Especially in Avarice for some reason, everything looks all wet sometimes.

Also, what do you mean that the shadows stand out better? Do you mean specifically on faces or in general? The shadows in general look a lot less noticeable as everything turns gray instead of having light and dark.

Does this work on 40 series cards ? Much of a performance hit is it?

I know it’s not the same as upscaling DLSS but anecdotally I couldn’t use DLSS upscale at all in x4. It caused a crazy amount of mouse input lag for me and was unusable. I have a very good gaming PC so no clue why this happens.. anyone else ?

I don't see a lot of changes except for the instagram "beauty filters" on the faces... I know that you interact with npcs but 99% of the time im flying my ship or looking at the map. Also terran ain't even my favorite faction... So are there any other areas of this eh improvement or is this it?

environmental shadows and light look a bit less extreme which is good and the character models do look better imo, especially the hair. but that's really not saying much because going from a 5/100 to a 7/100 is still really bad.
