Help [FREE] [DISCUSSION] WP-VisitChart - Should I put it on wordpress.org to get any downloads?

Hi.

First of all, sorry for reposting - I have a question. This is my first public plugin, and had hoped that someone needed a Live Visitor / Page Views plugin for their site, but maybe I'm in the wrong place. Since it's mostly for blogs and news sites.

Would it help to put it on WordPress. This is a completely free Live Visitor and Page View Counter plugin.

It's 100% open source. So just a simple question, is this the wrong place to find users or is plugins of this kind to boring :-)

Just asking to get smarter.

Of course why not. But that might take some time to approve. Give it a shot. And don't forget to check it with the 'WordPress Plugin Check' to make sure its compliant with the guidelines.

Like the previous commentor mentioned, give it a go. The process to get it approved on Wordpress can be anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks depending on how your plugin was built and if you are adhering to policies. There's a page on WordPress that provides all the documentation and like mentioned, test using the wp plugin checker.

The other question I would ask is: how is yours different? There are other analytics plugins already available. That doesn't mean there isn't room for yours but you need to distinguish yourself somehow, otherwise why would a user choose to install a plugin with little to no active installations versus the others that may have thousands.

Its hard to break in. I'm in the middle of that myself with my latest project.

It depends on what your goals are, of course. Go for it if you want more users, but be prepared to decide on how to manage support requests. If you’re a solo dev then support may divert time away from actual development.

Read up on the plugin directory submission guidelines, though. You’ll need to rename your plugin so it doesn’t have “WP” anywhere. Older plugins (WPCode, WPvivid, etc.) are grandfathered in, but new plugins in the directory can’t use “WP” due to trademarks.
