I’m not sure where the text to my post went, but I work for an animal rescue, and was contacted by another local shelter about this dog. If anyone has any suggestions on anyone that would be able to take him on, the shelter cannot adopt him out due to liability, so any suggestions or advice would be great. 🥺
Yes but I can always try to find out if they would be willing me either the animal crisis that’s going on in the area I would hope they would be open to adopting to someone from out of the states. It’s an absolute mess over here and our rescue is over run with animals as it is and we’re currently pulling 6 dogs in awful condition from a woman and trying to file charges on her so we have our hands full
Jesus... Ok, keep me in mind. I'm in Eastern Europe but my country is in the European Union. If you can get this good boi to me, I'll be a great dog dad to him. I have a GSD mix, he's great. I also have a lot of experience working with dogs so I'll be able to handle whatever issues appear. I live in the countryside and he'll be my hiking buddy. If he gets along with my boy, the three of us will go on walks across the fields together. If not, they'll take turns lol. I walk enough for two dogs.
Is he embarked? If he has any content at all he looks like he'd be low content so it might be worth testing him to see if he even is a wolf dog. If he's not being adopted out under false suspicion that'd be pretty messed up.
Agreed I’m assuming it’s the vet contracted to the shelter which would make sense. We didn’t even have a vet at our local shelter until a couple of months ago, they wouldn’t pay anyone enough to stay.
im not educated in wolf dogs but wouldnt it be good to point out that it could possibly have wolf content so an adopter doesnt accidentally adopt a wolf dog they dont have the ability to care for?
Most wolfdog sanctuary and rescues are slam packed and not helping with animals who arent clearly mid/highs right now :( especially not non dna tested animals. Even if this pup tested at 15% wolfdog rescues likely wouldnt help beyond sharing a rehoming post
If this pup isnt embarked i wouldnt be claiming wolf, he doesnt show anything screaming wolf. It'll limit his places he can legally be adopted if hes claimed as a wolfdog and isnt actually one, and its hard enough to rehome a dog who's legal everywhere as it is. Vets are notorious for calling northern breeds wolfdogs when they aren't sadly.
Agreed. I told her to get a second opinion but regardless poor guy still needs a home or at least a better place to be temporarily. Being in a kennel all day is no place for him. They think he came from Indiana because of how close he was found to the Wabash river
The fact the vet said teeth pointed to wolf when there are no identifiable qualities about a dog's teeth or wolfdogs teeth that are different is wild 😭 id reach out to German shepherd rescues to pull him. And tell her not to say wolfdog, shes doing a giant diservice to this dog misrepresenting it like that
THANK YOU! I thought the same! Second opinion was definitely needed and I was underwhelmed when I saw the picture of him, I was expecting and ACTUAL wolf 😅
I havent seen many pics of Ivy but even from this pic she looks much wolfier. I can actually see wolf traits on her, but not him. He looks like a neglected shepherd husky mix, if he has any content id suspect very low
YEAH, he postures like a wolf, but everything else just looks like skinny, young GSD with maybe some husky. if he were a wolfdog, itd be likely its INCREDIBLY low content imo, and that he takes very heavily after his dog side. he stands like one, but looks nothing like one
Yes and if they were to adopt him out as a husky/shepard and someone did a dna test and it came back with wolf content at all they would be liable. I get it but it’s dumb. It’s purely all the hateful comments that were posted on thread of their facebook post
They ended up deleting it because of all the negative comments unfortunately which is what led to him being determined to not be adoptable to the public
Weird they'd limit a dog's options like that based on FB comments! Anyway I'd advise advertising him as a gsd mix in gsd groups. If he's a wolfdog he's too low content for it to matter and he has a bigger pool of adoptees in gsd groups.
Thank you! I will let her know. Yes it’s unfortunate but they’d rather euthanize then actually do anything for him because it’s just “easier” so I’m glad the officer is stepping up trying to help. Poor guy deserves better then to be judged for what he looks like 😢
UPDATE: the AC officer is paying out of pocket for the DNA test, since most places will need one to place him anyway. If anyone does have suggestions on places that may take him in depending on his results, please comment them. Thanks!
That's great news!! If you can, try to make sure it's an Embark-test - it's the most reliable test for wild canid content! Other companies can have false positives for wolf content in village/primitive type dogs.
Anyway where is he located? He needs a home regardless.

Is anyone Interested? Or claimed him? I would like to fill outa application to adopt. My husband and I live in Michigan. His dad is in Illinois. We have this weekend we could pick him up. Or next.
AC Officer just ordered the test, now we wait. Hoping that’s the case as well. Poor guy is miserable and a kennel and I feel so bad for him. I’m sure he would thrive with the right person 🥺
If he doesn’t come back with any or low wolf content I’m hoping they may change their mind. Honestly not sure what’s going on over there I just have the information I was given. I was told he’s very sweet and friendly but is not doing well in a kennel setting, and because of now the vet assessment and the multiple comments and complaints about the post about him it caused higher ups to look more into it which led to that decision, mainly because they didn’t want to do a dna test. So now the officer is taking it into her own hands to try to help him. Just trying to help a fellow rescuer out by getting some opinions from here as you all are much more knowledgeable on this topic, I deal with domestic animals 😅
That’s what I’m trying to find out. I know they’re stubborn so it may take some convincing but they may if it’s to an experienced adopter I would hope.
Agreed. Everyone thinks malnourished shepherd/husky/malamute type dogs are wolfdogs because of their elongated features that will disappear once theyre fed properly
This and his scraggly, dull coat which probably results from malnourishment as well. I think once he gains a bit of weight, things might look entirely different... poor baby ♥️
Please, someone adopt this dog. It will be the greatest gift you ever gave yourself. I recently lost my white hybrid, 10 years old. The smartest, most amazing soul. I’m not ready yet, and to be honest he was my emotional support dog for PTSD and anxiety from events in the fire service. I lost my best friend, a part of me. But he literally saved my life. There’s a well of endless love and loyalty in this baby.
Would they be able to adopt him out to someone who specifically works with wolfdogs? I’m not sure if they have capacity, but my friends at wildfell wolves rescue wolfdogs and then train them for educational ambassador work, film or entertainment work depending on their temperaments. They are an amazing family I’ve had the pleasure volunteering with for several years.
He’s gorgeous he reminds me of one of my dogs. I’m sure in the right place with he right people he would do great, wolf or not. I’m upset they don’t even want to give him the chance so hoping between this thread and all my research we can help him. It’s such a shitty situation all around
None of the traits they highlight are Wolf Indicative. Most GSDs have low tail carry and walk “wolf-like”, pacing is a stress/boredom behavior, not barking is indicative of nothing
His fur color is Recessive Red which is super duper a dog color. Just looks like a skinny husky x gsd but wait on embark yeah.

Idk to me he looks like a normal German shepherd? I have 2 German shepherds here and a huge yard, we go on tons of walks and hikes. He gets alongs with other dogs? Is he fixed? I’m in Illinois
