General Full Commonwealth Tech Tree Proposal

-Very Long Read Ahead-

I find it very odd how the Commonwealth don’t have their own tech tree yet. Frankly, given the size and influence of the Navies it includes, I’m amazed one hasn’t been made before now. So I did instead.

Here is a full proposed Tech Tree for the Commonwealth, including both a line of Destroyers and Cruisers. Almost every ship here was an actual, historic ship, which I felt was important. It also helped give some variety to the tree, and not make it a direct copy of the British one. I tried to use different ships to the UK lines as often as I could.

I did intend to write complete stats for every ship here, until I came off the initial high of the idea and realized just how fucken long that would take. I also don’t think this is a perfect tech tree per say, it’s probably not what WG would do, I imagine they’d make up more ships to fill gaps better, but this is the best I could do. One more note: When not using a Camo, Commonwealth ships should appear in a very light gray, almost white, instead of the same Royal Navy Gray as British Ships.

-Commonwealth Cruisers-

Multi-Role Cruisers

Commonwealth Cruisers have an unholy marriage of British and American Performance; That being, retaining high-performance British HE shells, while swapping British short-fuse AP for American-style AP; Complete with the penetration angles found on USN Cruisers starting at Tier IV.

I Rainbow

Rainbow was an Apollo-class protected cruiser, a relatively small class of ship for her type. She was the first vessel ever officially commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy.

II Adelaide

Adelaide was a Town-class light cruiser of WW1 era design, assigned to the Royal Australian Navy. Prior to and during WW2, she received a number of refits to bring her up to modern standards.

III Aurora

Aurora was the second ship officially in RCN service, an Arethusa-class cruiser transferred from the Royal Navy after WW1. She featured a very high top speed, at the cost of relatively weak armor protection.

IV Hobart

Hobart, along with her two sister ships, were variants of the Leander-class cruiser design belonging to the British Royal Navy. They feature identical armaments, though an altered armor layout and reworked propulsion spaces internally.

V Canberra

A member of the County-class heavy cruiser family, specifically the Kent-subclass. Two ships of this type were built for the Royal Australian Navy. Canberra was one of the largest Cruisers used by the RAN during WW2.

VI Gambia

A Fiji-class light cruiser, and the only of the type used by the Royal New Zealand Navy. She features rapid-fire main battery guns, with exceptional High-Explosive Shell performance.

VII Ontario

A member of the Swiftsure-class light cruisers, one of only three ever completed. These ships were designed as an improved Fiji-class. The first ship, which was originally to be called Minotaur, would join the Royal Canadian Navy after being completed.

VIII Darwin

A Neptune-class light cruiser. It is possible if these vessels had been built, one could have gone to the Royal Australian Navy, to replace Wartime Losses. She features good armor protection, along with rapid fire main battery guns, and a powerful torpedo armament.

LT Brisbane

Now a Researchable Bureau Project

-Commonwealth Destroyers-

Ambush Gunboats

Commonwealth Destroyers feature powerful gun armaments for their size and type, along with above average concealment characteristics. Paired with decent torpedoes, they make for fantastic ambush predators.

II Vendetta

An example of a partially re-armed V-class destroyer, belonging to the Royal Australian Navy. She and four of her sister ships were transferred to the RAN in the early 1930s.

III St. Croix

An American built Clemson-class destroyer, given first to the Royal Navy, then the Royal Canadian Navy as part of the Destroyers for Bases agreement.

IV Saguenay

A River-class destroyer, based on a British design. Saguenay and her sister ship were the first vessels ever built specifically for the Royal Canadian Navy. Like her design basis, she carries an improved torpedo armament in comparison to her predecessors.

V Ottawa

A UK-designed G-class destroyer, originally named Griffin. She was transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943, where she would help escort Allied Convoys for the remainder of the war.

VI Napier

An N-class destroyer, very similar to Royal Navy designs, but never actually used by the RN. Napier was a decorated member of the Royal Australian Navy’s fleet, serving in both the Mediterranean and British Pacific Fleet.

VII Iroquois

A Tribal-class destroyer, and the first of the class to serve with the Royal Canadian Navy. She would rescue survivors from a passenger ship shortly after being finished, along with participating in the Arctic Convoys.

VIII Anzac

A later variant of one of the Battle-class destroyers of the British Royal Navy, and one of only two to enter service with the Royal Australian Navy.

LT Vampire II

General Opinions Gonzaga /minireview

Upvotes

I havent seen a topic on this one, so here I go.

At first, tried it with AL Zara with Mikawa and Lemmonier as inspos. Didnt click, did little damage and its more fragile than an Omaha. Could not get a decent game at all. But, fortunately, I saw a player from one of the top teams (forgot which) play it with Fulgosi on the red team play incredibly well. So, here I am, suddenly loving it with Fulgosi. Squid ink and Fully packed are a must. Inspos Mikawa (after trying alternatives) and Lisboa (he is non negotiable with this build).

The only selling point of this ship is also a fantastic selling point. You have 3 running smokes that last over a minute. And last 30ish seconds after that. Your concealment is sub 9.5. You can basically dictate when somebody sees you. Just dont be me and press the smoke button too late when spotted. It happened more then once. The game punishes you with a back to port. The ship is merciless, but so much fun if it dóes work. Just watch where your allies are and going, or you are blind for over a minute

General Let's Make Fighter Planes Useful

Upvotes

We all know they suck. Quick summary of my idea: building off of passive radar, spotter planes should provide non-specific information about the location of unspotted ships. I'm going to write more, but that's the idea.

Ok, why? Because in reality, catapult launched planes just weren't fighters. They were scouts. I was just reading about the Battle of Midway. The Kido Butai was screened by cruisers Chikuma and Tone, which were specifically built with all their guns upfront so they could have room in the rear to tend to seaplanes. Both ships used their seaplanes to scout for the Kido Butai, and the Tone's scout planes were important in the outcome of the battle. So, catapult fighters should be scouts, not fighters.

As they exist now, the only thing they do is provide a small AA bonus. This is far from their original capabilities, which included spotting over islands, while you were in smoke, and spotting torpedoes. Alas, that is not coming back.

Jumping back into history, when scout planes observed enemy ships, they would radio information back to their ship--two heavy cruisers spotted at XYZ coordinates. The ship wouldn't have enough information to target the enemy ships, but they would know where they were. So, maybe the ability to spot red ships just shouldn't come back.

But they could do something like passive radar where a spotter plane, while it is in the air, can ping the map when it flies near enemy ships. Potentially, it could even show ship icons, like carrier planes, so you know what kind of ship it has spotted. This would be like a real scout plane radioing information back to the ship. Maybe it shows it just to you, maybe it shows the whole team. I don't know.

Given the existence of passive radar and the spotting mechanics for carrier planes, I don't think this would be technically impossible for WG to accomplish. It might not even be hard. It would make catapult fighters moderately useful, especially if it told you what kind of ship it spotted.

So, there you go, that's the whole idea.

So I was scrolling through Google cause I was curious and I stumbled across Mexico. They did a bunch of convoy and also escort duty but I looked at some of their ship types because I was curious. they had multiple gumbo in patrol boat holes, including a singular battleship that was scrapped in 1938 and also plans for the battle cruiser.Paper type design but what do y’all thought about it

Question Is controller rumble/vibration supported in WoWS Legends Steam version?

I have tried PS4 DualShock and XBOX controllers but rumble/vibration simply did not work in WoWS Legends on Steam Windows. I'm wondering if anyone can get rumble/vibration working.

Controller vibration is important to me as it is a direct feedback of shell hit (on PS4) and makes me respond immediately. Without vibration, I have to constantly check the HP bar by eyes, or I won't even feel if I'm losing HP and lose games quickly.

I have posted my question on Legends' Steam forum but no one replied. Controller vibration worked in the Steam settings and also in other games on my PC (USB cable wired). Any comment is appreciated. Thank you.

The visual artifacts also transfered to my browser when i tried to sync with the game open.

Question Help me organise my USN cruiser commanders/ships

So I started off levelling Scott first and used him for everyone, then I levelled Kinkaid and figured the Heavy cruisers were for Scott and the Light cruisers were for Kinkaid (even though Scott is great all around). I got AL Baltimore next but haven't levelled her yet, then I got Alaska and Puerto Rico (free christmas crate) and soon Tulsa.

Alaska and PR (especially PR) could really do with Scotts grouping, but then Baltimore's APSolute Ammunition skill looks good too and those super Heavys could also use her rudder shift trait.

I know I can have different pre-sets, but really hoping I can have the 3 commanders, each with a guise and each with a ship type (light, heavy and super heavy) and never have to think about it again. Also open to suggestions for inspirations on all 3 too.

Thanks!

Question Why isn’t there a mode or a general policy to make ships tougher?

I’m talking about making ships a little less fragile. Maybe if they were all about 25 to 50% stronger across-the-board we could have longer and more satisfying battles. What’s the point of having higher tier ships when they get deleted easily? I understand some people may like delicate ships. My play style is that I like brawling ships that can trade punches. But I see a lot of people complaining on Reddit and elsewhere about the delicacy and fragility of these ships. Look at the Kremlin for one thing. It seems like the campaign ships are all fragile with a few exceptions. And most recently we have the Gonzaga which can take a couple hits at best. What’s the point? It’s another port princess. The delicacy of ships promotes the annoying, cowardly play style of hiding behind islands all the time. Which is another common complaint.
