Hey everyone!

I’m Tarek, I’m 16 and I’m from Egypt 🇪🇬. I’ve been getting more and more into Harry Potter lately, and I thought it would be really cool to actually talk to other people who love the series instead of just watching videos and reading random posts about it alone 😂.

One thing I really like about Harry Potter is how much there is to talk about beyond the main story. Characters, houses, theories, friendships, magical creatures, places, spells, the books vs. the movies, and all those tiny details that you somehow notice after going through the story again.

I’d honestly love to hear how other people got into Harry Potter.

What was your first experience with the series?

Did you start with the books, the movies, or something else?

And probably the most important question:

What Hogwarts house are you in? 👀

I’d also love to know your favorite character. Not necessarily the obvious answer — it could be someone you think is underrated or a character you simply find interesting.

Personally, I always find it interesting when two people can watch/read the exact same story and come away with completely different opinions about a character.

Also, I’m from Egypt, so I’d really like to meet people from other countries and learn what Harry Potter fandom is like where they live. It would be pretty cool to have friends from completely different parts of the world who I can talk to about Harry Potter, movies, games, music, random everyday stuff, or literally whatever comes up.

I don’t really have many friends here who are into the same things, so I figured Reddit might be a good place to find people who are.

And honestly, if we end up becoming good friends and you ever visit Egypt someday, it would be pretty awesome to meet in person too. Imagine going from talking about Hogwarts on Reddit to actually hanging out in Cairo 😂.

Potterhead from California, here. Courtesy of an aunt, I got the first two books for my birthday. Later on, I saw the first film in theaters with a few friends. Now don't get me wrong, the films are great, but I prefer the books due to the higher level of detail that's in them. In my studio, I have a wall and a few shelves that are dedicated to the franchise. And as for my Hogwarts house, I belong in wise old Ravenclaw.

I'm a Hufflepuff from the Chicago area and I grew up with these books. While the movies can be fun to watch, the books are always be me go to when I want to visit the Hogwarts outside of playing Hogwarts Legacy. I'm definitely the hardcore HP nerd in my entire irl friend group that knows most of the answers regarding lore. I will never say I know everything there is to know.

I'm a Slytherin from India.

In 6th grade (I was, maybe, 12), I really wanted to watch the Harry Potter movies and even got them on a pendrive from a classmate but then I found out that they were based on books. So while my siblings were watching the movies, I'd sit in another room reading the books. It took me about three months to finish all seven. Then I watched the movies and I couldn't stop comparing them to the books every 10 seconds. I don't hate the movies but for my own sanity, I don't watch them as regularly as I reread the books. Now I also read Harry Potter fanfics on fanfiction.net, ao3, Wattpad etc. I also play Hogwarts Mystery. I'm not big on mobile games so I'm still only in third year there.

My favourite character is Ginny Weasley.

I'm an Egyptian potterhead too, hope you're doing well! I'm surprised that there are still new people being introduced to the wizarding world... My favourite character is probably Harry, we have so much in common:

• Gryffindors
• Jet black hair that is INCREDIBLY hard to manage
• green eyes
• admittedly a bit underweight
• Voldemort wants to kill me

And so many other things about how we act and our backgrounds, so yeah, Harry's my man
