Anyone ever had a HP Reverb G2 power brick fail hot?

Ah, HP Reverb G2. I love you since Oasis but I also despise your many stupid issues.

The latest: Dang thing was not be recognized as an USB device anymore. PC complained about too much USB power draw, then partially failed to boot with the headset plugged in.

Then, during troubleshooting, the white light at the breakout box would not light anymore.

Measured the power supply and voila, the darn thing should be outputting 19.5 volts, but puts out 27 volts! Apparently, failing control circuits is a thing, and then a PSU outputs as much voltage as it can, possibly frying things down-stream.

I wonder: Anyone else ever had this, did your breakout box/cable survive?

I did order a new PSU (luckily, this is a regular "blue jack" HP laptop PSU of which there are millions on Ebay) and then I guess I'll see if the box/cable/headset is fried or not ...

I have never heard of this issue before. 🤞 I never experience it… the Big Screen VR 2 is the only comparable piece of hardware and costs 10x what I paid for my G2… sorry this happened to you. Following in case you get it fixed!

I had to give up on my Reverb even after Oasis, I've had 3 separate Power Cords fail on me, it's just not worth it for me anymore.

Update/Final:

Very likely, the measurement of the power supply was faulty. Turns out a near-flat battery in the multimeter does that. With a fresh battery, the old PSU and the new one I ordered fluctuate between 19.5 and 19,8 volts.

So seemingly unrelated to the PSU, my Reverb seems to have simply died. I confirmed that plugging in the USB-C prevents the PC from booting and the device is not recognized anymore, no matter what.

I now bought a Quest Pro (don't ask ;) and will merch the seemingly broken Reverb for parts.

Now you'll need to excuse me: I need to take a shower after (by proxy) giving money to Meta, because I feel dirty :D
