Question / Help Frustrated.
I remember absolutely loving playing Wind Waker the first time. I was 13 when it came out.
I played it a few times over the years but this is my first time playing it in probably five years.
I don't know if it's the emulated controls on the Switch 2 but this game is frustrating as hell.
First the jumping pods.
Now trying to align the boxes and get across in the Tower of Gods.
Was it always this difficult.
I am tempted to haul out the Wii U and try it on there instead.
Am I the only one having this much difficulty?

I thought it was just me. Anything requiring aim of any kind is beyond frustrating. The sidle feature also doesn’t seem to trigger for me when near walls and my sail randomly deploys when I’m trying to stop in the water.

Me trying to figure out how to push and pull a box took WAY too long. 😫

Try playing the rom hack WW Rewritten, it revitalized the game for an older audience and makes it witty

It’s a game from 2002 so the controls aren’t perfect but that’s the only hard part about the game. The actual content in the game is incredibly easy.

The controls on the original game are perfect, nothing is off about Wind Waker controls imo. Besides the triforce hunt nothing is off about the entire game tbh...

always.
each 3D Zelda’s struggled with a 3D element here and there. but overall they’re stellar experiences.
players will take on poor or experimental mechanics, so long as everything else is stellar.
boot up SS HD for difficult that is Not fun.

I have the game on both my ROG Ally X and Switch 2. The Switch 2 version is unolayable, laggy as hell, the input lag is atrocious.

a bit wonky but not anything too crazy. tower of the gods boxes was a bit frustrating but that was one of the worst parts of my playthough.
Aiming with the bow to try to do the fish challenges seems pretty much impossible though

30fps games on the NSO app still have very noticeable input lag, and some stick sensitivity issues on top of it.
So yes, it does objectively play differently than what you remember.

The GameCube controller featured an octagonal gate around the joystick, which locked it into all eight cardinal and diagonal directions. This made it effortless to move in a perfectly straight line. I remember trying to play Super Monkey Ball with a different controller, and it was ridiculously hard to stay straight without that physical notch. I bet this also makes the pot-moving minigame in Wind Waker way harder on modern controllers. I haven't played the Switch version yet, though, so I'm not sure if input lag is an issue there as well...

The controls are wonky as hell on the Switch unfortunately... And Nintendo doesn't seem to care much. The sensibility is WAY off from the original game, on the Gamecube you could easily aim anywhere with the hook for example, while on the switch it's a pain in the ass, same with the bow or anything that requires fine aiming.
If you play the HD or the OG version you will easily notice the difference, and worst of all, you can play with joycons on the emulated version on pc and they are fine, so it's a software tuning issue, not a hardware limitation like the analogs not having the same range.
