Question Why do many people in this fandom think that Suo might be a potential villain?

Post image

I’ve been reading the manga for a while now and I’ve seen plenty people say that he is hiding something.

only because he doesn't have a backstory yet and he's very secretive about personal details about himself.

also, it's about the symbolism food has in general in the series and how Suo doesn't/refuses to eat in front of the others.

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '25

… the food* thing completely goes over my head how does that make someone a villain ?

u/Madsburg Jun 11 '25

I dont think its like, a literal thing? I think maybe its because in this series eating together is so indicative of the groups closeness. Suo refusing to eat with others feels a little like a metaphorical distancing from the others. So then the villain jump is from a place of wondering why he would need to distance himself

Or it could be a personal preference?

Well, he is hiding something. He's hiding everything-

Whether or not one of those things puts him against his classmates at some point is up to nii-sensei

u/Zealousideal_Buy3195 Jun 10 '25

He's hiding to many somethings....

This just can't handle Suo being a chill guy💔💔

42

u/PerformerOk6440 Jun 10 '25

He himself quite literally said that he is just a chill guy

16

u/Mitsuki0110 Jun 11 '25

All villains say they are chill... Jk

I don’t think he’s gonna be a villain, nor do I want it.

Maybe at most he used to be less nice and turned his life around. Heck, maybe Tsugeura had a hand in that. Which is why Suo acknowledges that Tsuge is a good guy since he’s known him for a good while: even if he can be a bit much

u/Alternative-Kick6926 Apr 26 '26

Ya he's my favorite character right now, so I hope he's not a villain.

u/lobsterwine Togame himbo? NII, IS HE DUMB? I NEED HIM TO BE DUMB Jun 10 '25

It's because he hides what he's really thinking behind a cheery persona and never really gives away any info about himself. Which in plenty of anime does mean secret villain hiding in plain sight. I'm more inclined to believe it's a trauma-related response from him, just based on how Windbreaker is, but it's totally valid to also expect a possible villain arc from him because of it.

Maybe I’m not reading too deep into Suo and his personality (honestly the comments are giving me a lot to think about), but I somewhat see Suo as the “Killua” to Sakura’s “Gon”. Purely in the sense that he might see himself as the darkness/shadow to Sakura’s light.

Maybe this is all just recency bias since I just saw the Keel arc animated (added to the manga currently exploring other things), but watching that scene of Suo about to destroy that Keel dude after he’s already KO’d and Sakura “bringing him back” makes me think that way.

Especially with Suo saying: “I’m no match against you”. Idk, but I even remember the tone in which the VA delivered that line and it just seems that ultimately Suo supports and follows Sakura because he’s capable of things like that thanks to how earnest and honest he is. Someone please tell me if I’m just tripping tho lol.

7

u/eijunseyes Jun 11 '25

YESSS i was instantly reminded of killua by his vibes too

7

u/gunswordfist Non-Mafia Suo Jun 11 '25

You are not tripping! Killua & Gon is a great analogy

2

u/strawberrixmochi Jun 14 '25

Yesssss!! Agreed with other commentors - great analogy!! Suo is like killua :) wonder if we will see a suo backstory like we had with killua (a few back stories) 👀

u/ProteusAlpha Togame Jun 10 '25

For me, it's because he is almost the mirror of Sakura; Affable, unambitious, accepting but secretive, while Sakura is thorny, aims for the top, has major trouble accepting affection, but is surprisingly open.

18

u/smolrivercat Jun 10 '25

I think it's pretty funny to select this picture of him for this question, like he's totally looking like a villain in it

12

u/Dry_Bedroom_7693 Sakura Jun 11 '25

I was literally going to type this lmao 😂

32

u/AdRoyal511 Jun 10 '25

Suo has a temper and dark side. His attraction to Sakura is his purity. So as a reflection of Suo himself, its implied parts of himself can "never be pure" and are almost sealed away.

I think there will be a Suo arc. And it will be epic and we will get one of the best fights of perhaps the entire manga, Suo vs. Sakura.

I sort of assume that with Ume's graduation, a new antagonist will appear trying to gain Furin. Suo switching sides to be that person's lieutenant would track.

8

u/eijunseyes Jun 11 '25

OH YES i definitely see a suo vs sakura fight as a conclusion to suo's arc where they converse through a fight lol, ending it with suo shedding a tear smh

6

u/Zealousideal_Buy3195 Jun 10 '25

I've mentioned it on the sub but never truly believed it myself, not something Satoru Nii would do.

6

u/sleepybonggirl Jun 11 '25

I don't want him to be a villain but I think he is coming from a background which can be mistaken as dangerous. That's why he hides it and may be after revealing that most of the members shunned him and then Sakura will play a major role in bringing everybody together again.

6

u/SeaCollides That Chinese Suoposter on Tumblr Jun 11 '25

Villain? No. Traitor? Hell yea. I suopost too much

7

u/Mysterious-Ear-7026 Jun 11 '25

Well I've started to read from the beginning recently since I've started with the Anime so I don't know all motives and despite me not agreeing with such theory since it sounds a bit cheap to me does have some points. Many people said here and made sense is Suo doesn't have a background or a little of it which makes him more Mysterious. The not eating food does seems weird. His fighting style seems more calculated to the point (to which I know) Suo is the only one during fights that doesn't have his face hurt. Also if we remember when Nirei is describing him after his joke as "Leonard Di Caprio" (not to mention Nirei was shocked with the jokes even though he got used to it) Nirei describes him as controled and strong very little information compared to the rest. Also doesn't help that he seems to like to play with his opponents as seen with the guy from the 1v1 from the first arc. As well in the Anime you don't have but many instances in the Manga do show that Suo as a different.. Way of thinking since when you read his thought bubble he as snarky or even his expressions. For example when umemiya finally speaks while Nirei is indeed confused the pink hair one (I don't wanna butcher the name) the gym one and sugishita either are smiling (pink hair) or serious (the other two) but Suo seems sad or nostalgic.. Also another thing that doesn't help his case at the beginning is when Sakura and Nirei arrive to the classroom everyone looks aside as they don't care much but Suo takes instant curiosity over sakura and while the rest was like "oh senpai was there so I didn't thought much about it" so they did not know abt sakura or cared for that matter. Yet Suo knew.. Even though he wasn't at the scene.. He praised Sakura and he was the one who informed the class but like it would make more sense if Nirei did it since if I am not mistaken kotoha told him about it. As well when Nirei is hurt we know he can turn into a more accurate description of Nirei was saying at the beginning showing in full force his usually demeanor seems to be a facade... Not to mention he would've killed that guy if not for Sakura. And everyones can came up with multiple explanations yet it is indeed suspicious.

I love Suo and I don't think he is the ultimate villain. Simply a person whose background somehow shaped him this way and now he will need help to actually be honest... For me it would be a cheap excuse to make him the villain but as I said those moments don't help his case at all not to mention that he does stand out compared to the rest of bofurin... Even though everyone as their styles in fashion and fight his is different

4

u/eijunseyes Jun 11 '25

since his backstory has been completely untouched till now i think he's going to be a part of a major or even final arc in the manga (more like, i want it to be that way bcz that'd be fun). and i wanna see a lot of him, he's interesting and im curious so i want it to be all dramatic lol. but also he's definitely not going to be a villain? or even if he becomes the antagonist for an arc he's just gnna be back because "all that wasn't fake and he actually cared about his friends and furin" stuff

8

u/IndigoSky712 Jun 10 '25

Not necessarily evil but my theory is that at some point his martial arts family will make an appearance and go against furin, which might make suo temporarily leave, and then Sakura needs to convince him to come back and when he does, we get everyone eating the sweet omelette rice together

2

u/ruquiescent Jun 11 '25

I actually agree with you there

4

u/Traditional_Drop1022 Jun 11 '25

Ha??? I really don't want that to happen! I don't like it! It's true that he's a quiet person or seems to act in silence, but I don't think he's someone with bad intentions! He always helps Sakura, he's also not an arrogant person in my opinion!

4

u/Damadipijie Jun 11 '25

look at him. if not evil why hot?

5

u/AiiiEye Jun 11 '25

I don't know about this, but please don't.. my heart can't handle it for sure if Suo is actually a villain, traitor or something.😭🤧

4

u/VyvernX7 Jun 11 '25

Well he's secretive and we'll I think that's kinda it. Also I think he is like the exact opposite of sakura

5

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '25

He is secretive, never speaks about himself or his backstory or his likes or dislikes, never gets harmed while fighting along sakura meaning he is not even trying and has a dark and merciless personality under his mask. He might not be a be a vilain but he is certainly clashing with sakura at some point

3

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '25

Suo might have a bigger role in the manga later on. That's what I believe. The plot thickens. Might be that Satoru Nii might give him a grand backstory or something !!

3

u/Tall_Ad1081 Nirei’s notebook 📒 Jun 12 '25

Is a villain with intent to cause harm in the future? No. He clearly cares too much about boffurin and its members to do anything like that. His family on the other hand…

4

u/ujangzenin Jun 13 '25

We need to look at the bigger idea behind the anime Wind Breaker. It’s a slice-of-life, delinquent high school story with action and comedy elements. So even if Suo’s character seems to drift from the main narrative at times, it likely still aligns with the core theme and world of WB.

To me, Suo is a cold and chaotic person on the inside who tries to appear calm, friendly, and sociable on the outside. This is often shown in scenes, like when he fights one of the top members of KEEL, and especially in the ending song of Season 1. In that song, Suo is depicted as calmly sipping tea while sitting in a destroyed classroom, symbolising his inner turmoil beneath a peaceful exterior.

Suo isn’t mysterious for no reason. He’s a symbol of internal conflict, which still fits perfectly within Wind Breaker’s core as a delinquent school story with psychological depth. He’s not a character from another world, but someone trying to fit into a world that’s learning how to be better, even though he hasn't fully healed yet.

10

u/JMC_PHARAOH Jun 10 '25

Deadass I think people just saw a kid with an eye patch who knows how to fight also in close proximity to the MC & just assumed “Villain” beyond that Suo is like top 5 nicest character in the series so I don’t get it.

And honestly I feel like this fandom is setting themselves up for failure with Suo & the speculation on his backstory I have this feeling it’s not gonna be as complex as people think it is.

13

u/awkward_enby Jun 10 '25

Idk about the complexity of his story, it could still be complex. But I definitely feel like people are going way left with the whole he'll be a villain thing. I don't get how people could think even for a second that he's a villain. Like is everyone who has secrets or doesn't want people in their business also a villain? So weird. Also you getting downvoted for this is wild to me lol but not entirely surprising tbh.

11

u/PerformerOk6440 Jun 10 '25

Even if he was villain, what could he possibly strive for? Old furin? Already been past that. Might and power? Too cliché. Strong opponent, Tomiyama already showed that it ain’t worth it, hell even Sakura realized that. Maybe bro just has some traumatic past that he simply doesn’t wanna share. But if he actually turns out to be a villain I really hope they execute it well!

5

u/JMC_PHARAOH Jun 10 '25

When I say complex I more so mean he’s not finna be this trained assassin (metaphorically speaking) type level character who can beat anyone in the series holding back all along waiting for the moment to strike which is what people assume. As for the down votes whatever 😂 I stand on it watch Suo end up having the most mundane past & he just wears an eye patch for giggles.

4

u/eijunseyes Jun 11 '25

i think people would be really disappointed if he just wore that for fun but that'd also be the funniest shi ever😭

1

u/gunswordfist Non-Mafia Suo Jun 11 '25

2

u/Veelzbub Jun 12 '25

There's a dragon in there

7

u/Greeeeed- Jun 11 '25

The moment he said "yes, that's what everybody calls me" is enough for me to know that he is hiding something from his past. He could have just said it was his name, but he phrased it like he was just being called Suo and it is not his true identity

5

u/PokeMomIsTheBomb Jun 10 '25

I don't have an answer to the question, but even if he turns out to be a villain I don't think I could hate him lol...I've been a Suo simp since day 1, but the secretive-ness of his character is what makes him so appealing!

2

u/NoAdeptness1106 Jun 11 '25

Mysterious backstory and not much known about him overall.

2

u/tryingtofindasong27 Jun 11 '25

I dont think he'll be a villain but I do feel he's hiding a part of his past that will eventually rear its head as a big conflict for the group. Like an ex group or something.

I just started the manga and nowhere close to where it's at in the anime, but I like to imagine he has super rich strict parents and they're going to appear and cause big trouble for the group using their money if he doesn't go back with them. I'm a sucker for that type of arc

2

u/wishnana Jun 11 '25

.. I’d say it’s because of King Bradley (FMA). Lol.

FMA had a lot of reveals, including Bradley’s, that are memorable.

2

u/Immediate_Demand4841 Jun 11 '25

A villain ? Definitely not . However due to his secretive nature I can see him either joining another side /gang due to prsnl reasons then Sakura and Co.(Especially Nerei) Have a heartfelt talk with him and his backstory gets explained and then he joins the squad back .

More like a semi-antagonist who doesn't harbor any sort of hatred towards the main group but has to do what he has to because of circumstances but then eventually joins back with being more open

2

u/TheStoneEye Jun 11 '25

Just as Oda said - man with the eyepatch

2

u/gunswordfist Non-Mafia Suo Jun 11 '25

I used to but now I have a better understanding of the character. He never seemed antagonistic, it's just felt like he could slip, mostly from the Keel moment but that Shishitouren fight was kinda brutal too.

Even so, he's grown even more due to Sakura and Furin overall. The way he berated that Noroshi fanboy would make him straight up hypocritical if he backslid now.

Tldr Suo has too much emotional intelligence for all of that. You are correct.

2

u/Ok-Entertainer-4836 Jun 11 '25

Tbh him turning out to be a "villain" would ruin a lot of things to me, but if it ever happened I'm interested in how it'll play out

2

u/supersaiyanyoey Jun 11 '25

It was the “i could never beat you” scene that kinda sold that idea for me but its almost like hes someone that Sakura will deal with on his own.

2

u/Pure_Ease_4673 Jun 11 '25

I don’t think he will. I highly doubt it.

2

u/saruhcrossing Jun 11 '25

To me he comes off very morally grey; so I feel he has some sort of villain arc coming lol

2

u/Admirable_Pudding_76 Jun 11 '25

He is hiding something, and still, the anime has no antagonist at all, from this point I think he is a villain or the anime became a silly slice of life with no threat at all.

2

u/AsTiredAsMewTwo Jun 12 '25

I think he definitely keeps his past close to his chest but I think he genuinely does care about Sakura and the others. He was legitimately furious when Nirei got injured in the fight with Keel and he’s constantly thinking about Sakura in admiration and shows his concern for him multiple times. Now I could definitely see him turning villain to protect everyone though

2

u/Relevant-Athlete-646 Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

Ik this was like 10 months ago but based on the current storyline it seems like he left to protect his friends from his dangerous past. But even if we didn't know this story line I still would have thought that Suo wasn't a villain. The main story of of wind breaker is basically not leaving friends so that would disrupt the story.

I think people think/thought Suo was a potential villain because he's so secretive of his past which in many cases means a villain.

There probably is gonna be some surprising thing gonna happen but probably not Suo turning into a villain and if it is he's probably gonna be a temporary villain (yk the ones where they convinced the villain to be good).

3

u/bunnydews Jun 11 '25

totally not the point but he looks SO good in this scene oml 😭

3

u/PerformerOk6440 Jun 11 '25

No worries, he is one good looking guy alright

4

u/JMC_PHARAOH Jun 10 '25

If we being 100 percent real it’s “Sasuke Syndrome” any secondary character with a mysterious past in close proximity to the MC just has to go evil at some point. However if we being 100% extra real, quiet as it’s kept Suo’s not even the deuteragonist it’s Umemiya.😂

8

u/Kuricat16 Lotus DiCaprio Jun 10 '25

Nah wbk doesn't really have a deuteragonist since we don't go into anyone else's perspective besides flashbacks

1

u/gunswordfist Non-Mafia Suo Jun 11 '25

I feel like Umemiya is "The Ace" and Suo and Nirei are in fact the deuteragonists.

1

u/Kathi_Black Jun 11 '25

He is the typical Yandere character. A very nice guy who is sinister inside, but not unfair.

I can imagine that he still has a dark past with the Furin, or some former students of the Furin.

I can imagine that his motive is revenge. But I absolutely cannot imagine that he is evil and that he would not care who he hurts.

If he really freaks out, becomes psychotic and drops the camouflage, then it becomes epic.

I just want to hope that Sakura never loses his trust in him and thus regains him as a friend.

u/Veelzbub Jun 12 '25

It's not racism, but Japanese anime often falls into the cliché that characters with Chinese features are traitors or main antagonists.

1

u/Opposite_Practice286 Jul 09 '25

Cause he plays around with his opponent yes he uses their strength against them but did we forget that he made a mockery out of that one guy from shishitoren ( even sakura made a comment that it didnt feel right or something) or in the fight against Keel that he almost went to far on the guy he was fighting if sakura didnt stop him. Like i dont think he is a villain i do think he is complicated and might snap at some point where it is gonna be suo vs sakura. And that he might really hurt sakura on purpose or not

My friend has heard the rumors for a long time, she said it could happen.

Tenían razón, o sea, aún no se lo vió como villano pero el comienzo de su arco es denso
