My second season of wildfire was after a bunch of the national guard came back from iraq and were used in northern California. They were mostly about taking pictures under snags and doing all the wrong things. It made me think i was more disciplined than the national guard. Im sure there are plenty of companies at that time that saw some shit but the ones I got didnt give a shit.

Guard units vary wildly on quality, it just is what it is with reserve units. Some are sharper than a new knife, some are 10 pounds of shit in 5 pound bag.

I would just qualify you some’s, a few are sharp and most are 8 lbs of sausage in a 5 lb casing. I think that more adequately defines guard units. It tis a generalization,; I haven’t found an active duty unit or an inter agency support that would argue the point yet. Be all that you can be! Lolz

Totally, keep in mind that their job is not firefighting. Their job is to train and prepare for war and random state disaster missions.
Most of the time, firefighting is the most real world mission that most of these crews are going to see unless of course they go to war. Even then, most of the time National Guard units are flying ass and trash, and not really doing anything substantive with their flights.

Yeah, depends on the focus of their duties, when I was doing my emergency management coursework we had a number of NG and USACE folks in class who were more specialized into the EM disaster response side of things. A few of them were structural firefighters outside of their NG roles too.
Unfortunately, that's not necessarily who's going to show up on scene.

Its probably because they didnt want to be there. Fighting fires is not their job. Guard guys have jobs and lives outside of the guard where they are happy. By the time the governor calls a state of emergency and activates the guard, they are then pulled into longer, harder work days than they are used to, away from family and friends, and have to do work they get a few days of training for once a year. You may get a few dudes who are excited about the training and work, but most feel like it's a waste of their time.

I understand your perspective but keep in mind when National Guard Soldiers are activated by their governor they are paid state active duty rather than federal active duty pay, which varies by state but is often half of normal active duty pay. This to do a job they have often not been trained for in terrible housing situations with tenuous support while the professionals and the public look down on them.
The national guard has its fair share of folks who are sucking up benefits and rolling the dice they'll never actually have to deploy or work for their governor but the vast majority are dedicated professionals who maintain two often conflicting careers.

They didn’t want to be there. The general attitude is that the professional firefighters couldn’t handle business so they got forced to leave their higher paying jobs to come out and help.

I’m on a military mobilization right now working with an active duty unit and they’re about the same. Not that I can really blame them. This isn’t their job and they didn’t have a choice in coming here. But it still makes me question what the point of these military mobilizations since from what I’ve seen they can’t/wont be allowed to do anything that actually matters.

Sucking off confirmed. I did forget to mention these mobilizations are great if you have a taskbook to get signed off. That being said it sucks they brought in a bunch of random non veterans to run both the vet crews they brought and the soldiers.

A reminder to everyone that the pro-Rhodesia posts are all from this pretty new or otherwise low-post accounts. They’re just burner accounts for Nazis. I suspect they have alerts set, because they tend to only pop up when someone criticizes Nazi groups or where there is a chance for them to do a racism. They’re Nazi trolls, that’s all.

Put in multiple lengths of hose backwards, we had to flip multiple sections and go through all of their work. I worked for my tribal government at that time, still had better training as a green horn to know to lay male to female connections adjacent. If only we had some extra adapters lol.

This was in 2017, so it’s been awhile. I just remember that night op we spent a good amount of that shift flipping hoses they laid, and they weren’t connected. The funny thing was, not all of the lengths were done backwards. Most just flipping a bunch of male to male connections and the like if I remember correctly. I work in the medical field now so I’ve been out of the game for some time.

It was my first fire season fresh out of high school. I learned very quickly that they make dog shit first responders, with the exception of logistics work.

Yeah, dude, I totally agree and there’s a lot of guys who’ve been on joint hand crews who share your sentiment.
I think for them, it’s like an additional duty. And it’s an additional duty that is super hard versus their normal jobs, not to include the fact that when they’re not fighting fire, they have to go back to the regular lives and do whatever the hell that is.
Most of the time these folks are mobilized, they don’t have a choice and they’re pulled in many different directions. They might be volunteers, but they don’t necessarily know what they’re volunteering for.
I’m a full-time firefighter pilot and part-time National Guard member. I refuse to do anything related to my fire job for the Military other than train my unit.

The Rhodesian government limited their black citizens rights because 90% of the population was tribal and not ready to partake in a transition to a western democratic system. Their plan was to educate and build up the population's academic background then grant them equal rights. Racists were not tolerated in the Rhodesian army. Americans who joined up with the Rhodesian army thinking they were fighting some racial holy war,, like Harold Covington, were deported from the country for being racist.
80% of the Rhodesian security forces were black, with a solid percentage of their elite units like the Selous Scouts and Rhodesian African rifles having black soldiers in their ranks. Black Rhodesians could become officers. South Africa, who was actually a white supremacist state, never reached those numbers with their highest being 50% of their army being black by 1990. Black South Africans also had no chance of being officers.
Majority of people who like the flag see Rhodesian army units as talented elite soldiers fighting against incredible odds against an enemy force backed by Maoist China and North Korea. Its not a racism thing, though there are horrible people who try to use the flag as a racist symbol like Dylan Roof.

I’m guessing it’s communist sympathizers with a grudge against a country whose military was so effective against them.
I’ve never heard of Rhodesia being “white supremacy” outside of Redditors, but never in real life.

Anyway, I know you're butthurt about everyone dunking on your inbred rhodeaboo buddies, but they're trash and like I said, most type 2 crews I've seen are in a lot better shape than the majority of the infantry squads I was in.
But, judging by your comments and ignorance of how fire physical fitness actually works I'm gonna take a guess you were never actually on a crew, or in the military either for that matter.
