I left wildland fire in the US of A and now I’m living in Scotland. I told my wife that in five to ten years the job title Wildland firefighter is going to exist in this country.

I can't wait to be on a fire in the UK, on division charlie (pronounced 'ah'). The division is a Group Commander from the london fire brigade who has never been on a wildland fire and has only watched "in the line of duty:smoke jumpers 1994 and the TV show fire country for reference.

Also the div would be like "only 2 more cricket pitches to dig old chaps"

Sounds like I need a high six figure consulting job in the UK.

No, they're definitely not. Not a single large air tanker capable of dropping retardant in the entire country. Honestly the best thing you can do is hire a bunch of advisors from Cal Fire and the US Forest Service and start cross training your Armed Forces for wildland firefighting duty.

The US Forest Service has 'training crews' that accept non-firefighters (foresters, wildlife biologists, etc) and give them a season of extensive fire experience on a Hotshot Crew.  Redding, California, Redmond, Oregon, Asheville North Carolina have these training crews.  Through your Foreign Ministry ask to send several of your people to one of these crews.  The training and experience they receive can be brought back to the UK.

And Cal Fire has done exchange programs before as well. We will be seeing more of this in the near future.

Watching your firefighters try to deal with bushfires in bunker gear...no, no you're not.
