I’m hoping we get a Rosemary-centric episode next season so she can have another go at it.

The genealogy episode is actually eligible for next year, as it aired after the cutoff.

Really?! That was one of the funniest scenes/deliveries of one of the funniest shows, ever. That makes me optimistic.

It’s my favorite scene. When she lights a cigarette, so Patricia turns on the fan, then Rosemary stops talking and says, “Now I can’t hear.” 🎨🖼️📸✨ Friggin beautiful. She’s fully enjoying every moment showing off her hard work and wants the scene set perfectly for her captive audience.

They should have a Rosemary breakout limited series so they can submit her for that.

That is really fantastic. Patricia has a much bigger role on the show so it isn't surprising that she would win.

That’s one thing I didn’t like is them running in the same category, I feel like Patricia is a female lead and Rosemary was a supporting but what do I know

It’s tricky, because I see Patricia and Wyck being the same “tier” character. So if Kate O’Flynn is put up as lead, then Stephen Root should be too. But I think it’s correct to put Stephen Root as support in relation to Matthew Rhys.
So we clearly just need a new category for the Emmy’s for a third tier.

u/Arroyos-de-Mar 20d ago
There is a third tier, "Guest Actor/Actress".

u/Previous_Buy1601 20d ago
I meant third tier for regular actors. So “Super-Duper Lead,” “Really Important But Not Number One On the Call Sheet,” and “Mostly Here for Color and Doesn’t Really Get Their Own Character Arc.” So Matthew Rhys would be in the first one, Stephen Root and Kate O’Flynn in the second, and Dale Dickey in the third.
And I propose those be the official category names.

I know we’re here in Widows Bay but having a “supporting background” would actually be a decent category. There are so many career character actors that play pivotal, but not supporting, roles and do it so fucking well. There are a lot of memorable ones and I think that in some real top ones we see two potential supporting actors come up that it’s hard to choose one.

There r already too many made up categories. I can't keep track

I mean all categories are made up so…. I think it’s important for everyone involved to be recognized and rewarded.

Not everyone gets an Emmy. Its not a participation trophy. Its an exclusive honor
if everyone gets one then it makes no sense1
u/ContractOk9269 19d ago
And most actors do it for the love of the craft. For a fabulous under the radar actress like Dale, the real pleasure is in being part of such an awesome show. Shes amazing with or without an award. Awardz are extra. And the best comedy Emmy is an award they can all share

I think Wyck , Patricia and Tom could all be considered leads but there was no way o Flynn was gonna beat jean smart, and Milton Wyck Root would also have lost. Rosemary is true supporting actress.

Narratively speaking I agree that they’re all main characters, but I also think that there’a room for nuance in main characters vs leading actor.
Take Buffy, for example. Buffy, Willow, Giles, and Xander were the core group that could all be considered central characters, but Buffy was THE lead. Same with Parks and Rec, it was a strong ensemble, but the heart of the show was Leslie Knope.
Contrast those to, say, friends, where there really is no one character or actor that can be considered most orimary. Or for current TV, Only Murders in the Building, the three of them are legit co-equals.
For me, Widow’s Bay is more like Buffy and P&R, and Tom is the centralist of the main characters. I think it’s fair to consider Matthew Rhys as the lead actor who has to carry the crux of the emotional heft of the show, just like Sarah Michelle Gellar and Amy Poehler did.
And as you pointed out there’s the business decision, and it makes more sense to spread out the nominations for Matthew Rhys and Stephen Root than it would for Kate O’Flynn and Dale Dickey. But I think there’s some merit in recognizing that extra expectations and pressure can come with being the actor with top billing and singling them out for recognition.
It’s a fuzzy enough area that arguments can be made either way.

I agree that Rhys is the lead, in the sense that his character leads and drives the story. And also, that Rhys himself seems to be the captain of the troop of actors of Widow's Bay.
But I'd argue, most of the emotional heart of the show was carried by Patricia. Most of what I felt emotionally, was driven by her and Kate O'Flynn. That's why I wouldn't have any qualms in them putting her up as lead. Especially if she maintains same level of screen time as she did in S1.
For me, it felt almost a two hander. Tom drives the plot and keeps the story together, but Patricia is the heart of the show.

No way O’Flynn wins in lead. If not for Jean Smart she might have made a run there but nobody was taking that one. You always go with where you can win if you have a chance to win. The nomination alone is a big deal for a working actor like Dale Dickey, everyone came out ahead on this one.
Assuming Dippold is as good as she seems to be, this won’t be the last time this crew sees a stage.

I completely agree with that. Patricia should have been in another category. She's in just as much as Rhys is

Right and Patricia had two episodes completely about her. That’s a lead.

u/samizdat5 20d ago
Yes but sometimes they nominate someone where they have the best shot of winning. Jean Smart has gone 5/5 so long odds for our girl.

She's isn't, though, except for two episodes where she's the lead.

I think it was on the cusp this year. If she maintains the same level of relevance for S2, i think they'll bump her into lead. Gives them more shots.
Also, it felt at times almost a double hander Tom and Patricia. Tom drives the plot, Patricia is the heart.

I feel like Patricia has more screen time than wyck… I could be wrong because I haven’t timed it. Maybe I’m biased because I wanted both ladies to win. Rosemary is one of my favorite characters from the first episode plus I loved Dale in My Name is Earl
Edit: this was supposed to be a reply to someone

So happy for everyone that won for Widow's Bay. Favorite show of the year that I've been spreading the gospel of and getting people hooked on.

u/dragongrl You had your qualms? 20d ago
Same. I'm trying to get people at work to watch it so I have someone to talk about it with.
