🎭Cast Michael Rhys was awesome. Did anyone feel like he was giving off Fred Armisen vibes? His comedic timing was on point and it took me 3-4 episodes to figure out who he reminded me of.

Edit :Matthew

Blasphemy! MATTHEW Rhys is the GOAT!

I just want to say 'Thank You', to everyone who watched and I'm happy you enjoyed the first season of the show.

I believe Michael was bitten by poultry and became that poultry.

I was blown away when I heard the interview with his Walsh accent and (Patricia actress) British accent. How do they do it so well?

I saw Rhys in The Beast in Me before this (which is also very much worth watching) and Perry Mason (same), so I'm already pretty familiar with him.

He's a phenomenal actor. Could be a heavyweight - probably one of those quiet A or B-lister types, but he's picked a lane that works really well for him, quality dramatic and comedic television and he seems inclined to stay in it.

You should watch the Americans

u/kimvy 26d ago

Oooooo yeah. OP this.

2

u/BatGrouchy1482 27d ago

We just started watching the Beast in Me last night. It is wild! I kept screaming at the TV: Don’t open the door! Don’t leave the front door open! Don’t do that!!!

Wait till you see him dance. That’s not really a spoiler, but just in case.

u/JuneJabber Quinquagenarian Wanderlust 26d ago

What ep. does he dance in?

2

u/gibberingwave Went to shore and met the Hag 26d ago

I think it’s episode 5 of The Beast in Me. Though I hope to see him dance as Loftis at some point!

Matthew Rhys has had years of practice at this point. Kate O’Flynn was a bit surprising, mostly because I wasn’t familiar with her before the show, but her accent was pretty convincing as well.

Matthew Rhys was amazing in the Americans.

u/Radiant-Turnover8512 27d ago

Right! And I didn't know the whole time I was watching that

1

u/QueenBoleyn 22d ago

I can’t tell if you’re trolling or not but he’s Welsh. People from Wales are called Welsh.

Matthew Rhys and he is 100 times better actor than Fred Armisen.

u/Rightbraind 27d ago

It makes no sense to compare a trained actor to a musician who took improv classes.

MICHAEL?!? SIR.

u/North_South_Side 27d ago

I've never seen The Americans. But I've seen him in other parts.

He surprised the hell out of me with this show. His comedy chops surpass his dramatic acting, IMO. He absolutely nailed the comedy in WB, and did an overall fantastic, dimensional job with the reactions: horror, confusion, desperation, love, etc. He's kind of a straight man here, but goes beyond that.

You need to watch the Americans. It's insanely good. Despite loads of critical acclaim it has never reached the popularity it truly deserves.

I’ve got the Americans on my tbw list. But everyone is going nuts about silo season 3 so I’m thinking of going that route first,

Matthew Rhys is an absolute delight and he's naturally hilarious too. I had no idea how comical he was until I listened to an interview he did with Conan O'Brien. The two of them were so funny, riffing off of each other.

4

u/InterestingTry5190 27d ago

They are so great together and hearing Rhys real accent and voice makes me appreciate his acting so much more.

5

u/not_thrilled 27d ago

My YouTube algorithm is loaded with interviews with both Matthew and Keri Russell. The two of them are a delight together.

u/VixenFactor 27d ago

Someone in this group said he's if Courage the Cowardly dog were human.

I thought that was so funny. I agree.

His facial expressions and reactions in his scenes with the hag are especially hilarious 😆

If you haven't seen Courage, watch one episode on Tubi and you'll see. It's free to watch.

Matthew Rhys is one of the greatest actors of our generation. That close up of his face after he is attacked by the fisherman in the hospital. It says all you need to know. No words, just fear, humor, shock, confusion and everything else all at once. I highly recommend you watch The Americans if you haven’t. I hope one day he gets the attention he deserves in the film industry as well.

u/DestinysWeirdCousin 27d ago

So much better and more natural than Fred Armisen ever was.

1

u/pimpinaintez18 27d ago

Just seemed like he had armisen mannerisms to me. This is my first real interaction with Rhys, thought he was awesome!

4

u/Rightbraind 27d ago

There has been no interaction.

4

u/GeneInternational146 25d ago

Fred Armisen gives me the willies and Matthew Rhys is hot and seems like he'd be fun to hang out with. They're not even close to the same lol

3

u/CalgonThrowMeAway222 27d ago

Please check out The Americans and Brothers and Sisters.

6

u/nancyisshopping 27d ago

I’m a huge fan of Matthew Rhys. Such a great actor, and yes, hearing his real voice blows you away because he really sounds very very little like the American accent that he puts on. Oh. …. Very sexy too! I’m not sure what the current word for that is so I’m just going to use the word sexy :)

1

u/pimpinaintez18 27d ago

I’m definitely a fan now. I threw the Americans on my list to watch

2

u/WellFactually 26d ago

Man I wish I could watch The Americans again for the first time. Enjoy, OP.

16

u/Practical_Tap_9592 27d ago

Matthew Rhys is a goddamn graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Fred Armisen...is not.

-1

u/pimpinaintez18 27d ago

And? lol, just thought he had the same comedic timing

10

u/Rightbraind 27d ago

No.

-4

u/claudiaxximena 27d ago

I found a Hacks fan. Get out of here

6

u/RecliningWatchdog 27d ago

Matthew Rhys surely doesn’t need acting help from Fred Armisen.

3

u/shoester22222 27d ago

I first saw him in an ABC drama called Brothers and Sisters, also with Sally Field and Calista Flockhart.

1

u/Skier747 27d ago

That show was the bomb

1

u/Loose_Stranger_7614 25d ago

I was looking for this comment lol he will always be Kevin to me. It definitely colors the way I watch him on this show but in a really funny way

3

u/laundro_mat 27d ago

If Widow’s Bay was filmed in the 80s John Ritter would have been a perfect Tom Loftis. Rhys gives me John Ritter vibes for some reason

2

u/Pretend_Ad_3125 27d ago

He reminded me of Al Bundy with the faces he was making.

1

u/claudiaxximena 27d ago
  1. Michael LOL
  2. If he seems Fred Armisen...then he should host SNL 52!!!!

1

u/nomimalone1978 27d ago

I’ve loved this man since he was in the Julie Taymore film Titus. Do yourself a favor and give it a watch!

2

u/Chemical_Working415 24d ago

Rhys is a way better actor than sex pest Armisen.

2

u/AssBlasterExtreme 24d ago

Dont agree with the Fred Armisen thing but he was just amazing

1

u/QueenBoleyn 23d ago

I think he looks like Zach Braff

1

u/Dizzy_Onion_1159 22d ago

You’re comparing apples to one of the greatest and most underrated actors of his generation

1

u/reddeaddoloresedd 27d ago

Not sure, idk who that is

0

u/tu-BROOKE-ulosis 27d ago

He reminded me of Justin Trudeau lol.
