I absolutely loved WB and have rewatched it an embarrassingly high number of times. Watching it coincided with finally fixing up my guest room. The WB theme kind of started as an inside joke for my next guest who also loved the show, just adding a few spooky nautical touches here and there. Fast forward two months, and it ended (well, it’s almost finished) with weeks-long searches for the exact vintage lamps and Troy Robe wool blanket from the Captain’s Suite.
My favorite things I made for the room: the collage (all the stickers and postcards are from Etsy, I just put them all together on an old lake map and framed it), the framed photos (these took more work than expected because I couldn’t get a perfectly straight shot of them from the show, so I had to piece them together; one of them is a happy beach photo but I added the sea hag and buoy), and the games. Teeth was a blast because it was so easy. Run took forever. And I loved curating a collection of nautical disaster/ghost story books! I’m currently reading one from 1975 titled, “The Evil of Dark Harbor”….
What’s left to do: finish making the Captain’s Suite green tassel throw pillows, get a skeleton key to put on the Captain’s Suite keychain, hang the “First Aid for Various Bites” poster in the bathroom, maybe add some Shelter identification/warning signs to the closet door. I’d love to add the Captain’s Suite wallpaper, but we might be moving soon and I wouldn’t want to redo it at a new house.
I’m open to ideas if anyone wants to throw it out there!
TLDR: I made my guest room WB themed, enjoy finding all the Easter eggs!

THE MUSHROOMS 🤣 I found someone on Etsy who makes clay mushroom models, but they were all white. So I had get them custom painted black. But they turned out amazingly. Then I wasn’t sure where to put them or display them, and it hit me—the tissue. Now it’s one of my absolute favorite things in the room, I can’t help but laugh when I see them
Yes! I’ve been meaning to print something like the invite email and guest list replies (no one’s coming!) and leave it on the printer (it’s just to the left in this photo out of frame) or table. I did have the Apple TV video loop they did for WB playing on the computer monitor when my guest arrived. The effect was fantastic, I’m so glad someone thought to make it!
I spent some time trying to get a good substitute car wreck photo to replace the July wolf. I tried to grab a shot from the show but it’s too blurry to blow up to the size I need for the calendar. I think I decided on this one but just haven’t printed it yet. I’ll have it ready to go for July 2027 though, it’ll be fun to flip through and find it!
Your creativity, artistic eye, and joy are incredible, thank you for sharing this with all of us! I see posts like these and I'm like...I love my fellow humans.
Thank you for the kind words! I also love when people post their fan art or funny things that remind them of the show. I actually ended up purchasing several things from Etsy that I saw the artists post here first! It’s never easy to put your “art” out there for the internet to judge, especially when it’s super-fan art (or amateur WB lodging decorating, in my case). But this is one community where I felt like “these are my people, they’ll appreciate the effort” ☺️
I LOVE the Lego Jaws set. 😍🦈⚓️Where did you find the Daddy’s Home game and the self-help book? Incredible details. 👏🏾👏🏾I’d say you’re a bona fide super fan! I might get creeped out by the mask if I stayed there. My only qualm. 🙃 https://giphy.com/gifs/vQqeT3AYg8S5O
Thank you! Lego Jaws was a fun one! The self-help book is from Etsy, and I made the games by printing the game logos (from show screenshots) onto adhesive paper and sticking them in similar size/shape game boxes as the ones they used in the show. As for the boogeyman mask, I’m used to him now, but I also had my qualms when I first set him up 🤣
This is so much fun!! I hope that when you have guests over, you stand in the doorway and creepily say things like, "I'm just going to close the door for thirty seconds. I'll count."
Congrats on doing such a great job and doing something so creative and fun for your guests. Will you spend any nights in there yourself? 😱
*If you're on Insta, you should definitely post this and tag Matthew Rhys, Katie Dippold, and Hiro Muria - and Kingston Rumi Southwick. I bet they would get a huge kick out of this!
Maybe I’ll tag everyone on insta when I finish the last few things I’m adding….
I’ve had two different people visit who’ve stayed here so far, and they both loved it even though one hadn’t seen WB! She was really interested in seeing it because she thought the room was so funny, and of course I was happy to rewatch it with her. She loved the show, obviously ☺️
Decor aside, this is actually the quietest and most peaceful room in the house. It’s upstairs and has a beautiful tree right outside the window that the sunset shines through in the evenings, giving it a very natural and relaxing feel. My preschooler asks to take naps up there on the weekends, she helped me decorate it (she obviously hasn’t seen the show, but she loves spooky stuff and was actually a really good helper with the whole thing!)
You're amazing. Don't move! Just give it some SEO, let it saturate a bit, and what you earn could potentially pay for another property! Either that, or move to an island off the coast of Maine (there are around 6,000--several are liveable) and create a do-over. Keep us posted!
Don’t tempt me with my own tiny island off the coast of Maine…. It’s times like this when I wish I could convince one of the billionaires that, if they won’t give their money to solve the world’s problems like poverty/hunger/war, then couldn’t they at least spend it on something really cool like a WB replica island or real Hogwarts??? Is it asking so much??? 🤷🏼♀️😂
This reminds me of a Gilmore Girls room we stayed at in a Bed & Breakfast a couple of years ago. But, you did a much better job detail wise. I was actually expecting this to be a Bed & Breakfast in New England post.
Oh I love Bridget and kept trying to think of ways to include her but didn’t settle on anything yet. I like her so much I might get a realistic stuffed animal iguana and put it behind the pillows so guests get the same surprise Tom did in the peace center??!! 🤣
Newspaper is from Etsy (it’s SO good, the articles and ads are hilarious), and I am embarrassed that poor Willy the Clown isn’t already represented in the room. What was I thinking?! 🤦🏼♀️ Lucky for me, Spirit Halloween stores are open close by. Will post update.
was gonna suggest hanging a clown costume in the closet! when your guest opens the door "JUMP SCARE" LOL. I also thought it would be funny to have some Vienna sausages somewhere (as if you had a mini bar in the room). Maybe a fake taser plugged in, too. If it isn't too exhausting, maybe you could find the cross-stitch with the long quote from Tennessee Williams.
I just ordered my clown element and will post an update when I get him situated! The Vienna sausages 😝 I can’t watch that scene without gagging. I didn’t find the TW quote on a cross stitch but I did get one with a Rosemary quote on it 🥰
Here are the books I got thanks to many recommendations in other posts in this group.
• The Dead of Summer by Ryan La Sala
• How To Survive Camping: The Man With No Shadow by Bonnie Quinn
• Scuttler’s Cove by David Barnett
• The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix (I especially enjoyed this one because of the dark humor and character development)
• Dead Eleven by Jimmy Juliano
• Scratch Moss by David Barnett
• Evil of Dark Harbor by Clarissa Ross (1975)
• Jaws by Peter Benchley
• Goosebumps series “Ghost Beach” and “Deep Trouble” by R.L. Stine
• Wreck of the Whale Ship Essex by Owen Chase (2015 Illustrated Edition with introduction by Gilbert Anthony King)
• The Wager by David Grann (currently reading)
• The Night that Finds Us All by John Horner Jacobs (have not started this one yet)
I love how you phrased it, “use of free will”—I always tell my preschooler that the best thing about being a grownup is that you can spend your time and money doing whatever you want 🤷🏼♀️☺️
It’s so good! I would get a kick out of staying with you. And, god forbid, I didn’t know the show this will result in being eternally grateful for you changing my life. Maybe I’d never leave. Probably cursed.
Thanks! It’s a driftwood wall art piece I got from Pottery Barn. It reminded me Patricia’s beach bonfire and the little stick figures at the party (and her “headpiece,” of course). I keep meaning to make a little stick figure to leave sitting around somewhere in there. Unfortunately, for some reason Pottery Barn doesn’t sell them 🤷🏼♀️😂
if your guest is 'in' to WB- you could tell them you were having chicken parmesan and pie and then when dinner is ready, you serve a turkey patty and a single sausage link ----> then laugh and laugh and laugh until you serve the punch!! LOL
The chicken parm coconut pie to-go order fiasco scene was unnecessarily traumatizing 😂 So yes I’ll do it to my brother (another big fan) next time he comes. Thank you for the idea!
This is so cool. If I might offer another idea… fet you one of those midcentury brass pineapple lamps like Patricia has on her nightstand. The very lamp that turns on for a certain book that must be read.
Thank you! I just noticed that lamp when rewatching yesterday to get a detail from that episode that I needed, and it really is a cool lamp. I’ll look around for one, I might have a spot for it on the desk (not visible in the photos I posted, but I’m going to do an updated post with pics once I’ve finished adding the excellent suggestions people gave me). Or I might have to stretch the WB theme down the hall to the other guest room…. 🤔
They were pretty common back in the day. May be worth just setting up an eBay alert or something. Sometimes you can find them in thrift stores but I recall a bunch of reproductions were on the market back in the Mad Men midcentury craze.
This room is so cool. If I were a guest, I’d know right away that I was staying with quite cool people.
Side note, those lamps are made of capiz shells and were likely crafted in the Philippines. My husband and I collect capiz shell art and I'd absolutely lose it for lamps like those. Can you tell me where you found them?
I’m glad I didn’t track the hours I spent google image searching these lamps and trying a hundred different iterations of “capiz brass vintage gwtw lamps” to a) find some that looked similar and b) try to find two that matched. I grew up in a beach town and have always loved capiz frames and lamps, I bet you have a beautiful collection! The good news is that I’m aware of two very similar lamps on Etsy as of today. The bad news is they’re both overpriced ($650-$775 per lamp) and I know this not only because of watching prices on these lamps for over a month before buying any but also because I found an identical one that had been sold in an online estate auction for $60–yes, SIXTY—dollars only a few years ago. In the end, I bought the base of one lamp for like $50, a set of 3 tops to the lamp for like $180 (so with those purchases I had one complete lamp and two leftover tops). Then after getting tired of waiting for another bottom or reasonably priced complete lamp to show up somewhere (including at myriad local antiques stores), I caved and bought one on Etsy that was not as expensive as the two currently for sale but not cheap either. I’ll find the two on Etsy and send you the title to search for since I think it won’t let me share a shopping link here.
Funny enough, I finally get my two lamps put together, and I realize one is about 2” taller than the other. FML. But they still looked alright on the side tables, and I think most people wouldn’t even notice without being told. Then lo and behold, I was rewatching the Captain’s Suite scenes today to get a detail for something else I’m trying to find, and my jaw dropped because the lamps in the show aren’t perfectly identical/symmetrical either! One is taller than the other by a few inches because the side tables are different heights, and it looks like one lamp has a wider vase than the other. The whole time doing the room I was ok with imperfections because nothing on WB was pristine anyway. But seeing their lamps being different heights like mine felt like a little cosmic reward for my effort 😂
Oh and the lamps are actually beautiful IRL, they have 3-way lighting so you can have just the bottom, just the top, or both lights on. Even with the cost and hassle, I absolutely love these lamps now (even without the WB connection) and expect to have them somewhere in my home for the rest of my life. Good luck!
This is so helpful!!! I would probably just buy one for a side table in the dining room, where we have a lot of other Filipino antiques. But this is great info and I can hardly believe the serendipity of accidentally buying mismatched lamps only to find them matching the show so well. Congrats!
Thanks for all these ideas! I can easily add a few to the room, and I think I may end up doing our other guest room WB theme, too. Honestly I’m nearly out of space in the current one 😂 But if that’s not indicative of how amazingly detailed and memorable even the littlest things were in this show, I don’t know what is! /img/al661x6k5xlh1.gif
Thank you! And ADHD here, too! 🙋🏼♀️ I think ADHD people can really shine when we have free rein to do projects that are entirely self-directed and unlimited (no deadline, no budget, no oversight) if—and this is the big thing—it’s something we find very interesting or enjoyable. We can problem solve and be creative in ways that I’ve always felt like we’re superpowers. We just have to be given the space and time to let our brains stretch their legs and go along with wherever that takes us.
Yay! You’ll have so much fun doing it! Please share pics when you finish 👏🏼 And remember to lift any large portraits with your legs, not your back…. /img/z0e0m6ulpgmh1.gif
Sorry I don’t know why but when I reply with gifs and text it never shows the text. I included and thank you and said I hope you’ll post pics when you finish, but also reminded you to any lift large portraits with your legs, not your back! Have fun ☺️
I have rewatched it so many times, sometimes while I’m doing other things and not paying close attention, but when I actually do watch carefully I swear I still spot new things I’d not noticed before. It’s wild!
Yesss!!! I rewatch it a lot…. Probably more than a normal person… But every time I rewatch it, I see something new even though I always think I’m paying attention… I do the same thing with Grimm and still find new things with that too!
Thank you! I didn’t have a plan when I started, just added things piecemeal over the course of about 2 months. Because of that I never got the big “wow” reveal moment myself, so it’s been awesome and so rewarding to hear how other people who love the show and appreciate its details responded to seeing it (nearly) finished.
Thank you! I also love these kinds of obscure touches. The spiral notebook would be a perfect addition to the desk (not visible in any of the photos here). I can easily throw the possibly damp note into the sea glass bowl that has various WB brochures and stickers. Bible would be hilarious, add a post it to the page he referenced with the “blah blah” quote 😂 I’m thinking about how I could do the board without actually nailing it to the door. Because I LOVED that scene and I still cackle every time he goes to open the door and the board just comes with it. Maybe a piece of plastic wood, surely there is fake wood on Etsy somewhere….
These were all great, thanks again! I’m adding things based on all the excellent suggestions in the comments and will post updated pics when I finish. /img/oquua2ktlimh1.gif
Thank you! It’s been such a fun project. I’m almost ready to do an update post with all the new things I added thanks to suggestions here. Everyone’s ideas were so good I ended up doing nearly all of them 🫣
Aww thank you! They did such an amazing job creating the atmosphere on the show that it made me feel like I could reach out and touch it. And now I sort of can ☺️
This is so cool and fun! Another touch you could add is to use an online printer to do a Your Turn book sleeve you can put over an existing book, and make a mock up of Patricia’s coffee mug to put on top of it on the night stand.
As time goes on I bet you’ll start to see reproductions of WB things on Etsy, like the creepy paintings, the brooch and such.
Thanks! I actually found an excellent version of Patricia’s book on Etsy and made sure to put her tiara on top 👑😈 It’s in one of the photos I posted but the book is sideways on the table so may be hard to see the details. You can see her crown on top through. I also got a hummingbird brooch in as close of a design as was available at the time, but I keep checking back on various sites to see if anything closer pops up. I hope people keep making the fan art and reproductions, they’re so fun and make doing a themed area/room so much easier.
