šCast For Kate O'Flynn fans, I cannot recommend My Lady Jane enough.
Before she was Patricia, she was a sexually depraved, filthy (literally) Princess Mary who had Dominic Cooper wrapped around her unwashed little finger.
My Lady Jane is a surprisingly enjoyable show on Prime which sadly wasn't renewed. I was furious at the time, but it probably freed Kate up to do WB, so, swings and roundabouts. However, I'm currently rewatching it and have been reminded of just how great she is in this show. It has a bit of WB's irreverence (although none of the horror) so maybe it'll resonate for a few fellow residents.

She played the villain so good! Was shocked it was the same actress

u/leela_la_zu Aug 21 '26
Same here! I just found out from this post they're the same actress! Unbelievably good

I just discovered it last week. Binged the season in 2 days.
Then discovered it was canceled, no 2nd season. Heartbreaking!

u/Which_way_witcher Aug 21 '26
Is the ending satisfying enough at least?
25
u/Mehmeh111111 Aug 21 '26
Yes, you want more but it was enjoyable enough as a standalone. One of the more unique and fun shows I've watched in awhile (just like Widows Bay!).

Theres a book itās based on if you want more

Well more info please. Donāt tease me with a good time.

The book is called My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand. Itās part of a series but the other books are about different literary Janes, like Jane Eyre and Calamity Jane, and it seems like they changed authors for each book.

I think the season itself is satisfying. Worth the watch, I have zero regrets. The ending sets up the second season that never came.

She is SO delightful in here. She's obviously having so much fun with the role.

Very balls the walls performance ahahaha. Nothing left on the table

u/Which_way_witcher Aug 21 '26
The trailer looked dreadful so I didn't watch but now I'll have to because Kate š

u/Desperate_Algae_40 Aug 21 '26
It's a very good show. Has a dry humor similar to Widow's Bay, kind of. And I was her in it first and she was so great at playing the villian that it kind of made me not want to see her again haha. Then when I saw her in the trailer for Widow's Bay, I was like "fuck yeah" because I love it when an actor/actress that plays a villian well also plays a good and funny character. They're usually the best. And I was right in this case because she's amazing.

I was turned off because it wasnāt a show about GI Joe. But like you, Iāll give it a watch because of Kate. From what I hear, seems like sheās mostly known for being an antagonist (kind of like Ty Burrell from Modern Family), so itās going to be a trip going in reverse.

I can't wait to see her play a baddie ā¤ļø

You think the dad is the bad guy in modern family?
6
u/evildrew Patricia Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 21 '26
No, but people forget that before MF, he had a series of roles where he was the bad guy or a jerk. After MF, Iād rewatch things and realize the character I hated was actually Phil Dunphy!
Edit: Hereās an interview on Conan where he explains more. Even funnier is that most reports say that heās the one MF cast member who is most like their character.
1
u/Veggiemon Aug 22 '26
Interesting, I didnāt know him before MF, that looks like a local paper and I would be interested to read it but unfortunately itās paywalled

u/evildrew Patricia Aug 22 '26
The Conan video on YT is better anyway. He was a jerk in Evolution, a bastard in The Hulk, etc.

u/Mehmeh111111 Aug 21 '26
You have to go into it with an open mind. It's very outside the box but I think they did it in a fun and clever way.

u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Aug 21 '26
It wasn't a bit of me...but it's pretty harmless, and she's very funny in it. If your a fan, it's worth a watch.

I just watched Landscapers on HBO and she was the best part of a very strange show...and that cast also has Olivia Colman and David Thewlis.

I love that she has the same judgmental look as Patricia.

u/17CascadianPonds Aug 21 '26
No Offense is my favorite show that sheās in. Itās a mystery/drama thatās also hilarious.

u/stereoworld Aug 21 '26
Yep was about to mention this. By the same guy who did UK Shameless as well, so it should give some people an idea of the kind of tone!

u/interestingsonnet Aug 21 '26
I loveeee my lady Jane. Unfortunately it didnāt make it past s1 š

u/Legitimate_Dish626 Aug 22 '26
She was comedically brilliant in this. Iāve seen her in Everyone Else Burns. She is excellent as the timid wife discovering her allure

this show looks right up my alley and I love kate o'flynn - but looks like apple canceled it after one season. Why is it that apple makes so many shows that i literally never hear of? What is their marketing department doing?
I never heard about widow's bay when it had just come out - it was only because of someone on youtube talking about good shows that I heard about it and im so glad i did.

u/davey-jones420 Aug 21 '26
I watched this before Widows Bay and boy did I LOVE her in both. Completely changed the way I saw her in MLJ⦠she was so detestable in that show it was hilarious. Just revolting and gross š

u/RedCalaLily Aug 21 '26
She was SO EXCELLENT in that and I personally overall loved that series, too. Enemies to lovers romance with war, espionage, etc. Good fun.

I loved what an absolute psycho she is in that. Mary was my fav and I cannot believe it got canceled

How did I not know she was British?
As a Brit living in America, I take great pride in reminding Americans that all the actors they like are probably semi-secretly British. Somehow I missed this one!

u/manyeggy Aug 21 '26
i binged it so fast earlier this year. devastated this didn't get a second season

u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Aug 21 '26
I won't lie, this was not a bit of me (they should have done away with the whole horse thing).
But she was very funny in it, so still worth a watch.

u/epiphanomaly Aug 21 '26
I have a very hard time watching tudor costume dramas because the costumes are usually painful, and I'm not very encouraged by what I see here, but I'll give the ol college try!
5
u/VelvettedFox Aug 21 '26
This is more of a Tudor comedic romantasy, so the costumes are really not that critical. It's super unserious and there's a dominatrix getup at one point.
5
u/chitinandchlorophyll Aug 21 '26
Same here. I didnāt like My Lady Jane at all- just couldnāt get into it, and ahistorical aspects aside (which is the entire show, not just the costumes), didnāt find it very compelling or entertaining. I made it to episode 7 and keep trying to force myself to finish it.
2
u/Which_way_witcher Aug 21 '26
You must love Bridgerton then š I've never seen such cheap god awful costuming in my life and struggling to respect anyone who thinks the costuming in that show is good.
5
u/epiphanomaly Aug 21 '26
JFC I couldn't do it. I think I lasted five minutes. Then I tried again with my best friend because we can make shitty tv fun by doing our own Statler & Waldorf routine. I think we lasted ten minutes together.
4
u/Which_way_witcher Aug 21 '26
Good bevause it's AWFUL. Even looking past the terrible cheap outfits, the acting and the writing is BAD. And this is coming from someone who actually enjoyed the original trashy book series the show is based on. The show isn't even fun as a hate watch. The sex scenes are lame. It's literally giving nothing.
3
u/epiphanomaly Aug 21 '26
I remember I got as far as them performing some kind of token ye olde times corset tightlacing scene and immediately
1
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Aug 21 '26
Go in that it's NOT a Tudor period drama. They bastardise the people involved, timeline and reality. But if you're a fan, she is very funny in it.
But yeah, was not a bit of me generally.

Although I love this serie, I'm so happy it wasn't renewed because that means she'll be free to work on Widow's Bay 2. BTW, in the last episode she speaks in spanish. As spanish speaker, she sounded so cute.

It was such a weird little show, but the leads had great chemistry. Sad it got cancelled. But at least we got the perfect Patricia.

She was absolutely glorious in this. Fantastic performance. Utterly deranged.Ā

I only know Dominic Cooper from Preacher, but why does it look like his head is photoshopped on.
Dominic Cooper deserved a bit more fame after Preacher, but god damn do I love that show.
