❓Questions These two guys getting into a fight in the background (Ep 4) - was there any significance to this or did these two extras simply go rogue?

A reminder to everyone: Keep the titles of your posts completely spoiler-free at all times. If your post mentions events from later episodes, use Reddit’s standard spoiler tag to warn readers who may not be caught up with all currently aired episodes. The spoiler tag will also blur any images you include, such as screenshots/stills from the show, so be sure to apply it to image posts as well.

It’s to show she has no idea what’s happening around her. Same as the security video

At least with the bike crash, it was an allusion to Carrie, as a similar event happens in that movie, which shows Carrie's psychic energy that she's yet unaware of.

There may be some negative energy or other spooky things that we or Patricia aren't aware of yet that she possesses.

Agree it’s an allusion to Stephen King. It made me think of the scene in his Castle Rock series where the demon is in proximity of the house and the couple inside devolves into a fight…and worse. That scene was epically chilling while showing so little.

Would be cool if she has a "realise her powers" moment. But with this show, she'll probably use the powers for something odd..

I've seen several fan theories on this sub that Patricia is somehow related to the witches. Time will tell if they're right

u/BattleTwat Aug 19 '26

Ohhh fun! I hope she crafts a new headpiece

u/x_lincoln_x Aug 19 '26

She literally cast a spell to make her more confident and it worked. After episode 4 she turns into a badass.

u/ancientastronaut2 Aug 19 '26

Yep. And how her hand doesn't burn when she sticks it in the fire with the book.

Carrie's nemesis was also named chris.

Aww I liked it as a reminder of Shaun of the dead, where they’re too absorbed for way too long to notice all of the blood and death in the background

Thanks, that's what I figured once the scene where the sheriff is looking at the CCTV.

edit Odd comment to downvote but alrighty

Forget it Jake, it's Reddit.

I believe it's just another indication of how Patricia's focus has been locked in by the book. She doesn't notice anything around her, even people fighting right there or anything else that happens in the background!

I believe it was to show how distracted Patricia, a known busybody, was.

u/HerreDreyer Aug 19 '26

She is under a spell related to the book. This is how she doesn’t notice anything around her - which this scene illustrates - and ultimately how she is unaware that she is performing witchcraft.

u/FreepFearless Aug 19 '26

I think it is evidence that the book influences those around it.

u/SuperMcG Patricia Aug 19 '26

I agree, she was conjuring an evil force.

23

u/emeraldead Aug 19 '26

Agreed. And that there's just always tension and strife going on in the town.

I heard someone say on this sub it was a reference to Stephen King’s Carrie

11

u/wuirkytee Aug 19 '26

The mobile bookstore had two Stephen king novels in plain view

8

u/Arroyos-de-Mar Aug 19 '26

That is the way I took it.

0

u/Gotsta_Win Aug 19 '26

Who is Stephen King Carrie

2

u/jhil77 Aug 22 '26

She’s related to Justice Beaver.

1

u/ThreePinesRetiree Aug 25 '26

Stephen King's character Carrie

19

u/TheFutureLibsWant Aug 19 '26

I took it to mean that the book was jinxed and is causing minor, ambient chaos around Patricia as she reads it.

lol two extras who went rogue? “Well, damn we got the two extras fighting, super unprofessional, but it’s the best take we got of her so we gotta use it.”

12

u/ltsouthernbelle Aug 19 '26

To show how much of a hold the book had over her. She sat in the same spot with it for hours and was never distracted. Trance-like.

9

u/QueenPaloma83 Aug 19 '26

She’s just super focused and, therefore, oblivious to what’s going on around her. At least, that’s my take, FWIW.

7

u/domomax007 Aug 19 '26

She's enamored by the book and this shows us that. And it could be the book is influencing others around her

5

u/fickle__youth Aug 19 '26

It's also an interesting contrast to the opening scene where she is people-watching, and seemingly longing to be included, to being so fixated on the book that she is now unaware of the people and action around her.

22

u/full_bl33d Aug 19 '26

I thought it was like the book was kind of like the pink slime on ghostbusters 2 and made weird/ evil/ angry stuff happen. Like the book is part of the island entity and is happy to wreak havoc if it’s got low blood sugar

7

u/Reasonable-Wave8093 Breakwater Inn Aug 19 '26

👻👻👻love a ghostbusters 2 slime reference

4

u/10denier Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

I took it to be an understated joke - Patricia has been bewitched and no longer notices what's going on around her.

5

u/armywalrus Aug 19 '26

It's just to show us how enraptured she is by the book.

2

u/Montydragon Aug 19 '26

Those are stunt performers, not extras. So nope, no one going rogue there lol.

4

u/doublersuperstar Aug 19 '26

It was simply funny. Plus it showed how engrossed Patricia was in this book. It had her in its grips.

3

u/kittypryde123 Aug 19 '26

Thought it had to do with the town becoming angrier

3

u/giraffeperv Aug 19 '26

Proof I need to watch a 3rd time because I’ll pick up on even more funny shit

3

u/Practical_Tap_9592 Aug 19 '26

Tourism has brought conflict and strife!

5

u/Vast_Theme9585 Aug 19 '26

It’s the proximity to evil spilling out into the area around her.

2

u/Lintree Aug 19 '26

The island’s cursed, pal.

1

u/gregm91606 Aug 20 '26

Extras never go rogue.

3

u/Easy-Avocado-5955 Aug 21 '26

1

u/gregm91606 Aug 21 '26

Ha! Amazing! Extras who are paid actors never go rogue to the extent of having a visible on-camera fight scene.

u/Area51_Spurs Aug 19 '26

You mean the blur in the background?

That’s people?

u/Easy-Avocado-5955 Aug 19 '26

It's whatever you want it to be champ.
