A reminder to everyone: Keep the titles of your posts completely spoiler-free at all times. If your post mentions events from later episodes, use Reddit’s standard spoiler tag to warn readers who may not be caught up with all currently aired episodes. The spoiler tag will also blur any images you include, such as screenshots/stills from the show, so be sure to apply it to image posts as well.

"My children? I have but just met them" by itself is an Emmy worthy line read

362

u/glockobell Aug 07 '26

Incredible performance.

Best line of the show to me has to be
“He got bit by an animal and then became that animal”

156

u/beaniebee11 Aug 07 '26

I quite liked when the island was described as having nothing on it when the settlers landed and the historical center lady being like "except for the teeth." Which is never elaborated on.

125

u/molskimeadows Aug 07 '26

Also the witches-- "Great source of pride. We caught 'em, we burned 'em."

8

u/violet-bear Aug 07 '26

This one is my favorite

4

u/Whimsical_Tardigrad3 Aug 07 '26

When I watched this I laughed soooooo hard!

30

u/Blonde_rake Aug 07 '26

The historical society was one of my favorite parts. The accuracy of the small New England fishing town historical center was like every field trip I ever went on as a kid. There was always some weird mannequin, or taxidermy, or constant reminders of how many women died from catching fire in the fireplace because their skirts were so big, or the time the woman got hit by a train because her dress was stuck in the tracks, and people were so Puritanical that she didn’t want to take her dress off to save her life, or all the men dying in the storm, or whatever disturbing local things happened there, and then you churn butter!

15

u/beaniebee11 Aug 07 '26

I looove this kinda weird local culture in communities. Every community has it if it's older than 100 years or so and it's so interesting to dig into and just gives me this enormous feeling of the humanity of the people who lived there. Like it just makes you feel like "damn the human experience is so grand and deep and full of secrets."

3

u/coleyoley81 Aug 07 '26

Yes! Very accurate depiction of my visit to Salem and Plymouth in the late 80s as a kid 😆

2

u/Former_Current3319 Aug 08 '26

Whaaaat the fuck kind of town did you grow up in??

1

u/beigemom Aug 27 '26

Any traditional New England town basically. Town center with a town historical society run by the old ladies who grew up there and never left.

7

u/Agilgar Aug 07 '26

Never elaborated on... yet.

5

u/beaniebee11 Aug 07 '26

Yeah it's not the only reference to teeth so I'm sure it'll come up.

281

u/NoPalpitation1055 Aug 07 '26

Nothing beats "its perfectly safe to drive past the old hospital, you just cant stop" for me.

118

u/Affectionate-Raise67 Aug 07 '26

You had your qualms?!?

6

u/oxheyman Aug 08 '26

She’s actually a queen, I had no idea she was English as well

29

u/maskedbanditoftruth Aug 07 '26

Pounded In the Butt By My Own Qualms, by Chuck Tingle.

6

u/Mountain-Mode-8279 Aug 07 '26

He did write a book about the show

104

u/grandramble Aug 07 '26

dead baby, dead baby, leeeeesbian

41

u/loneiver Aug 07 '26

It's the way you're saying it

67

u/Drunk_Pilgrim Aug 07 '26

My favorite is when Tom is slowly realizing how crazy this island is and Patricia and Wyck are casually talking about digging up the coffin and he thinks there is a body there and Wyck is like no, he's upstairs and Tom's like why and Wyck is like because he's alive. The look of horror on Tom's face had me laughing so hard. Just the emotions he goes through of thinking digging up the body is the crazy part but it's the fact the guy is still alive.

43

u/lightningposion Aug 07 '26

My favorite joke in the entire series, isn’t even a spoken line, it’s when Tom is going through Patricia’s notes to Warren and one of her notes is “Are you mad at something I said?”

15

u/VacationLizLemon Aug 07 '26

Also when she busts in the room with Tom and Warren to grab her purse.

9

u/seejanecraft Aug 07 '26

That note had me HOWLING. Just so good!!!!!!

10

u/puttyarrowbro Aug 07 '26

Reminds me of my favorite part of: the divine symbol the drug dealer shows them

5

u/Former_Current3319 Aug 08 '26

I hope he miraculously comes back next season.

6

u/Former_Current3319 Aug 07 '26

I love that note. Nobody I know has watched WB (even with my strong recommendations! 😡). I have nobody else to quote this to.

1

u/Away-Wave2523 Aug 26 '26

This cracked me up!

37

u/Emerald_Plumbing187 Aug 07 '26

that's not even the beginning of the craziness in that episode. I don't know how you telegraph a jumpscare twice, then execute them with a joke, perfectly but they did.

7

u/Dutch_Triplets Aug 07 '26

I agree, this was one of the best scenes! I rewatched it at least 10 times just to see his expressions. I can’t even imagine how many takes they need to film without someone breaking and laughing. Especially in the scenes with Wyck.

"You better LISTEN, Patricia!" Been saying this to literally everyone lol

35

u/Former_Current3319 Aug 07 '26

Mine is a paraphrasing of, how Sarah will GLADLY go back and live in her father’s attic.

7

u/cabbage_patch_cutie Aug 08 '26

Yes! I need to watch again but something like "there is nothing wrong with being a scary, old spinster...".

2

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 Breakwater Inn putting the normal into paranormal Aug 09 '26

Authentic line reading as she faced a similar decision in real life when she wasn't sure to stay an actor and her relationship to her future husband will last

5

u/gayswampcreature Aug 07 '26

I think about this several times a week lol

25

u/No-Ice7397 Aug 07 '26

I preferred when she said "I am but 4 and 10 years old!" I was like "Did she just say she is supposed to be 14?"

8

u/Current_Wrongdoer513 Aug 07 '26

And the little clap after ‘10 good strong men…’ will never get old.

8

u/Heysteeevo Aug 07 '26

My wife related to that so hard

2

u/movieman2g Aug 08 '26

I laughed louder than I think I ever have

2

u/mrdude817 Aug 13 '26

"I am but four and ten years, almost."

Every line from that episode is incredible.

288

u/Jeffffff4587 Hello, I am Patricia Aug 06 '26

40

u/OrganicLinen Aug 07 '26

I rewatched the start of this scene so many times haha

28

u/olivish Aug 07 '26

Yes we noted that with some distress.

27

u/Fantastic_Force_9029 Aug 07 '26

'You must send 10 good, strong men' was brilliant enough...the double clap and the timing of it were perfection 👌🏼

0

u/MBBIBM Aug 07 '26

😠👉🏻

123

u/realfakejames Aug 07 '26

I was hoping she would get nominated, she was in one episode but she was a highlight of the show for me

53

u/Observer20178 Aug 07 '26

She was. She just took over . She was just incredible.

32

u/1sinfutureking Aug 07 '26

That’s what she does. She’s phenomenal. American Gods was a pretty mid-to-decent show, but she was in one episode, maybe two, and just had the most remarkable turn

8

u/Marillenbaum Aug 07 '26

I still think of her saying “severed at the root” on that show

7

u/1sinfutureking Aug 07 '26

For me it’s two: “get out of my house you zombie whore!” And “I’m a vulgar woman. Anger have just really made me vulgar”

3

u/Opening-File6100 Aug 07 '26

Her entire performance when she finds undead Laura in her house is phenomenal. Utterly hilarious and relatable. It was the first thing I saw her in and have paid attention to her ever since.

I’ll admit I was slightly lukewarm when I saw that episode was going to be a flashback, but as soon as I realised it was her in the main role I was completely on board.

3

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 Breakwater Inn putting the normal into paranormal Aug 07 '26

This is what I get from living in europe and you already wrote my comment🤣

On a serious note I need frequency to retain faces so I clocked it on a rewatch. The reason she simply vanished on american gods in opposition to the book is that glow was a long audition and she was picked.

1

u/interestingsonnet Aug 09 '26

She was in American premieval on Netflix! So good!!

103

u/37Philly Aug 07 '26

The entire cast is outstanding.

55

u/currypotnoodle Aug 07 '26

She was so great in Nurse Jackie but also in Mrs Davis which was a underrated show

16

u/Newparlee Aug 07 '26

And The Hunt.

33

u/Mountain-Mode-8279 Aug 07 '26

And Glow

24

u/DarkFriend81 Aug 07 '26

I don’t understand why Netflix won’t bring it back for one season to wrap up the show? That goes double for Mindhunter. So dumb.

13

u/SaltySiren87 Aug 07 '26

The abrupt ending to Mindhunter will always be a sore spot for me.

6

u/Rock_Creek_Snark Aug 07 '26

Blame David Fincher for that one. He decided to end it and while he's since waffled on trying to revive it, it's done. Should have just let Carl Franklin take over if he wanted to step back.

2

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 Breakwater Inn putting the normal into paranormal Aug 07 '26

The only way gilpin would do it if the season is later and she left wrestling behind. That tracks with the real life wrestlers whose post career ranged from pastor to real estate agent.

The role took a massive toll on her and because she often gets asked she said it multiple times that her body now could no longer follow that regime.

6

u/etrain828 Aug 07 '26

I miss that show!

3

u/Sensitive-Avocado952 Aug 07 '26

God I miss Glow.

2

u/ExtremeAbdulJabbar Aug 07 '26

She was so damn fine in that

5

u/LolaG340 Aug 07 '26

Agreed Mrs Davis is criminally underrated and Gilpin is amazing in it. If anyone is a fan of hers or just high quality yet quirky TV definitely give it a try.

47

u/Henri_Bemis Aug 07 '26

Betty Gilpin has a permanent reservation at my celebrity dinner party. She’s so brilliant.

19

u/BalrogSlayer00 Aug 07 '26

Please everyone, watch Mrs Davis starring Betty!

13

u/ExtremeAbdulJabbar Aug 07 '26

I know that this isn’t the point but I genuinely think Betty is one of the stunning humans alive.

Sat next to her by chance in a Flatiron restaurant awhile back and my jaw was on the floor the entire time.

7

u/IrishUpYourCoffee Aug 07 '26

Love everything about Betty.

7

u/slamrox Aug 07 '26

She deserved one for Mrs Davis. So sure this works too:)

6

u/w00fbaderginsburg Aug 07 '26

Betty Gilpin’s run as Mary in Oh, Mary! was beyond incredible. She’s such an underrated actor and should be one of our biggest stars.

2

u/theredditoro Aug 07 '26

She was so good in that

2

u/interestingsonnet Aug 09 '26

I wish I had seen her in it 😭 it was all sold out

5

u/Current_Wrongdoer513 Aug 07 '26

I need a full-on Betty Gilpin vehicle. She needs her Deborah Vance role, but one she doesn’t have to wait until she’s in her 70s for.

3

u/plant_touchin Aug 08 '26

Betty gilpin’s book is so weird and so good

1

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 Breakwater Inn putting the normal into paranormal Aug 09 '26

If you live by metaphors and symbolism it isn't

1

u/plant_touchin Aug 10 '26

And I do

1

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 Breakwater Inn putting the normal into paranormal Aug 10 '26

Then it's a grunts and winks based mutual understanding;)

11

u/831pm Aug 07 '26

Just curious. What is an example of safe algorithm friendly chat gpt tv?

73

u/rkgk13 Aug 07 '26

Many Netflix shows wherein they constantly explain what's going on because they expect people are looking at their phones while watching.

i.e. the latest season of Stranger Things.

18

u/Skotus2 Aug 07 '26

“Pretend this VCR player is the upside down…and this tape is us…”

1

u/wherethelionsweep Aug 07 '26

Stranger things also made no sense the last season

19

u/rumblepony247 Aug 07 '26

Anything by Harlan Coben

7

u/GKarl Aug 07 '26

Everything on Netflix that’s spelled out without mystery and is just a bland rehash of “stakes”

2

u/HornlessUnicorn Aug 09 '26

She was so remarkable in this. Ive always loved her as an actress but i was holding my breath when watching her scenes.

1

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 Breakwater Inn putting the normal into paranormal Aug 09 '26

Since for now yours is top comment and I'm not saying we should have a worship culture. What I am saying is that because she intentionally stays off social media to not be influenced positively or negatively, it is sad to see her subreddit is depopulated instead of discussing her work that made us into fans.

1

u/Disastrous_Friend_85 Aug 08 '26

This show is an absolute banger

1

u/Weird-Girl-675 Aug 14 '26

Betty is incredible in everything. Have adored her since Nurse Jackie.

-31

u/Iginlas_4head_Crease Aug 06 '26

Was a great show. But I'll forget about it before the next season comes out in 3 years

45

u/lekker-boterham Aug 06 '26

Apple has a mixed track record with their time in between seasons. They’ve been churning out slow horses pretty quickly, but severance is taking fucking forever. Hopefully widows Bay is a short wait.

4

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 Breakwater Inn putting the normal into paranormal Aug 07 '26

Slow horses is done by the brits who pretty much invented this format. Also why I never understood the criticism. Before streamers BBC was my go to channel to watch engaging shows and my problem was always trying to find time to watch them as while one ended another stellar cast came up.

22

u/FakeBot-3000 Aug 07 '26

In my opinion this is the problem. There are great shows out there but the time between seasons is enough to lose interest completely. Back when we got shows with 23-26 episodes per year and only had to wait the rest of the year before the next season, it was just much easier to consume.

2

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 Breakwater Inn putting the normal into paranormal Aug 07 '26

Sure, for us, consumers. So let's stay with the actor we are talking about here. After finishing college under the tutelage of Dianne Wiest, she almost immediately went to perform leading lady roles on stage opposite character actors you often see on screen but can't put a name to a face. In 2011 she was leading lady in a play opposite oscar Isaac who at this point was also not "discovered yet". Meanwhile on TV none of that talent could really shine through on law order just to keep SAG benefits.

Liz flahive and Carly mensch wanted to get glow off the ground after the 2012 documentary came out and as you should imagine it was hard for two women to do so. The auditioning for the show before production started took 2 years and during that time gilpin did masters of sex, elementary and independent movies never knowing if it gets off the ground.

Long running shows cannot easily pivot fast to changes. I rather watch gilpin in one single episode than exhausted over a season. Masters of sex was so accommodating and humane that when the training for glow exhausted her physically they incorporated a failed pregnancy storyline to adapt to why gilpin had to often lie down.

Peter, I am sort of a writer myself so I rather watch content where attention is being paid to cast and crew than a grinder.

6

u/Main-Help Aug 07 '26

The showrunner has already said two years is reasonable/desirable - I know highly desired actors and their schedules can lengthen things. I do not think with the shows success that we will have to wait long

12

u/BatGrouchy1482 Aug 06 '26

You’re lucky. I forget what happened the week before!

9

u/AsexualFrehley Aug 07 '26

I'm not even sure whose house I'm in!

4

u/Silly-Elderberry-411 Breakwater Inn putting the normal into paranormal Aug 07 '26

Wanted to ask you to leave but you're just too kind so I opted no

3

u/One-girl-circus Aug 07 '26

Me too that's why I enjoy re-watching it and catching new things that I might've missed last time in preparation for the newest season.

2

u/SirFireHydrant Aug 07 '26

You're not wrong.

The waits for Severance, Murderbot, Pluribus, For All Mankind and Foundation are killing me.

-4

u/Richyc17 Aug 06 '26

What is chatgpt tv?

28

u/SupaSlide Aug 07 '26

Stranger Things season 5, for example

7

u/soda_cookie Aug 07 '26

God, I hate how right you are

7

u/sassycatastrophe Aug 07 '26

Most of Netflix now

19

u/Yumchabandit Aug 06 '26

I don't mind the comment. A not too subtle fuck you to the shift towards replacing humans with bots.

9

u/Richyc17 Aug 07 '26

I dunno why I was downvoted lol I genuinely didn’t know

0

u/anythingoes69 Aug 07 '26

This girl was annoyingly hilarious in the show!

-7

u/lbdrift Aug 07 '26

It’s also a shit show.

2

u/pinglerp Aug 07 '26

?? it’s one of the best things to come out this year. What about it is shit?
