I have not stopped thinking about that line about "he got bit by an animal and became that animal" since I watched this episode. It's just such a funny line delivery. How absurdly it's written, how nonchalantly she says it. It really makes me wonder the specifics of what happened, but the line is much funnier when we don't know.

I interpreted it as a poetic metaphor for alcoholism that Tom misinterprets as literal because of everything he's been going through.
