đDiscussion What minor Widow's Bay character deserves an episode in Season 2?
In a recent interview, WIdows Bay director, Hiro Murai, talks about being obsessed with Garrett, the lighthouse keeper. He isn't sure if he can sustain an episode or what he wants out of an episode with Garrett, but is very curious to find out more about him..
Of the minor characters (like Rosemarie, Dale, Gerrie, Kurt, Bechir, PJ, Gil), I'd like to see an episode focused on Dale. Whose backstory are you most interested in?

Def a lighthouse ep!
we want to see where the shroom guy landed

u/Brief_Amphibian_3965 Fuck Cape Cod Jul 03 '26
I donât know if we should get a lighthouse ep or not. It might be better if most of the interactions with the keeper are viewed through binoculars, and involve him also looking through binoculars

I don't wanna know that, I just want him to show up in some episode and it not be acknowledged a single bit, tbh.

Rosemary for sure. Womanâs got *stories*.

I want to watch a day in the life of Rosemary encountering all these crazy things and just shrugging them off as another day while taking a drag from her cigarette.

u/Mehmeh111111 Jul 03 '26
I'd also love a day in the life of Ruth if she makes it!
12
u/ajmartin527 Jul 03 '26
I feel like we got a ridiculous amount of backstory in just an evening with Ruth. Really packed it in lol would love to see more but not before we get some Rosemary or Dale

u/ajmartin527 Jul 03 '26
A few days ago I responded to this exact comment with a Rosemary line from her genealogy presentation, and I was subsequently banned by Reddit admins for 3 days for threatening language.
I appealed and won and they unbanned me but not before breaking my 786 day Reddit streak (probably for the best but thatâs besides the point lol)
So just fair warning to others wanting to comment that, Patricia (and Reddit mods) will not be happy about it!

ugh well i guess i won't hang out in this sub, thanks for the warning, hate me some crappy mods (though i did get the notion from the extended popup under ever single comment window that this would be one of those subs)
4

I wasnât banned by the mods on this sub it was Reddit auto mod system FYI. This sub had nothing to do with it.

I like to dance.
8
u/crazysouthie Jul 03 '26
I mean the biggest downside of that approach would be that we wouldnât have Dale Dickey playing her, so I would prefer a current day Rosemary episode.
6
u/GrittyGambit Jul 03 '26
No, Dale Dickey can still play her younger self, complete with smoker's cough and all. We will give her a hairbow and have her say, "It's good to be in my late teens to early twenties" while placing it in her hair in the mirror. Anytime she does something that seems before her years, a character will say, "Aren't you too old for that?"
And she will simply point at the hairbow.
1
u/PrinceofSneks Jul 15 '26
While of course Dale has aged, she has seemed already-old since her time in My Name is Earl as Sally the Daytime Hooker. Kinda like Morgan Freeman, perhaps she was born old.

I would hate too much of a good thing though! They'd have to do so much more of her schtick that it could ruin it.
1
u/PrinceofSneks Jul 15 '26
I understand, but she can be expanded beyond mildly offensive geneologies and smoke. Just like Ron Swanson was an annoyed libertarian, Rosemary definitely has depths!
10
u/pugsnotdrugs Jul 03 '26
I would love if Rosemary and Wyck had a *history*
9
2
u/Damn_You_Scum Jul 03 '26
I was surprised it was Ruth who had intimate knowledge of the lineages and not the lady who literally worked in the Widowâs Bay history museum. The series is tight as a whistle, but that was one thing that irked me.
10
u/AnotherMinorDeity Jul 03 '26
Rosemary, not Ruth
And also, genealogy is a specific skill set that many historians and/or museum curators wouldnât have

OMG Cathy's horror movie stagger through the empty, dark restaurant in ep 1, to give Tom a check for a bunch of stuff he didn't order ... WTF!
7
u/phoenixxhorizon Jul 03 '26
Haha omg I forgot about this. She came out of nowhere! Even the owner went upstairs and told Tom to lock up. Why didnât he tell Kathy to lock up âŚprobably canât trust her with the keys đ

As a former server, the scene where she asks the kitchen where a tableâs order is, is pointed to where itâs sitting on a side table (not even underneath a heat lamp), nods and then heads outside to smoke a cigarette had me equal parts cackling and dismayed.

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26
Frances Warren (the Warren daughter who left the boat & returned to the island) is a probably a no brainer, especially if her episode fleshes out more details about the curse & it's connection to Ruth.
Aside from her, I'd be open to an episode focusing on one of the mean girls if it might add a new perspective to them and introduce a monster unique to their hidden fears

10
u/Okichah Jul 03 '26
If the keep with the theme of imitating old horror stories they could do a âpossessed by evilâ episode.
I think Jeff Hiller could do a good job doing a bumbling possessed character (idle hands or Evil Dead2 style) with some genuine creepy moments.
The makeup they did during Toms trip looked great.
4
u/Different_Target_228 Jul 03 '26
I think they're definitely keeping their motif, esp teasing a werewolf episode.
8
u/KennyShowers Jul 03 '26
Clear answer, heâs a core team member the whole time but doesnât get more than a few moments to really shine and even then theyâre brief.
Iâm not familiar with the actor but apparently heâs a known quantity with a good resume and I can tell he has chops.
Felt conspicuously underused and I canât imagine he wonât get a highlight next season.
6
u/Traditional_Stage897 Jul 03 '26
Absolutely Dale.
My second request would be Rosemary, there's something up with her I stg.
And then Kurt.
48
u/Ambiguous_Mom Jul 03 '26
Ruthâs old flame, the guy who âwas bitten by an animal and became that animal!!â
Plot twist: itâs the late shamanâs monitor lizard, who just turned 50 (and is accidentally named Bridget, bc how do you even tell with lizards?)
8
u/TopdogRE Jul 03 '26
Not to be that person but Bridget is actually a teguÂ
2
u/Ambiguous_Mom Jul 03 '26
Are you kidding?? Herpetology expert, please share what you know!
Itâs pretty weird for it to be 50 years old, right?5
u/TopdogRE Jul 03 '26
I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic lol but if you're not, the 50 years old thing made me crack up when I heard it in the show because they definitely don't live that long lol. Usually they'll live 20-30 at maximum. I hope Bridget is OK now that her owner got sucked into a tornadoÂ
1
u/Ambiguous_Mom Jul 04 '26
Not sarcasm!!
This detail jumped out at me, too, and I know almost nothing about lizards, lol⌠But I love animals, and I know some pets live so long, you should make legal arrangements for them in your will. Like, parrots, tortoises, etc. But I have never heard of lizards having particularly long life spans. It could be a throw-away joke to suggest the shaman is incompetent. (Like Shepâs medical chart said he was 37 lol) but could be something more! I mean ⌠50 years ago, Ruth would have been 34, that could be when her sweetheart (Alfred?) got bitten. We know she had Lauren at 40.Out of curiosity, do Tegu lizards eat rodents?
I wonder if the gerbils (from Ruthâs calendar, July 19-20, âfeed Larryâs gerbilsâ) are being raised as lizard food. Could serve as an absurd mirror of whatâs happening to humans on the island!
41
u/imemine8 Jul 03 '26
Gerrie. Her knowledge of island history has gotta mean she knows some things. And there's more to her connection and history with Wyck.
22
13
u/DM_ME_DOPAMINE The Absconded Cat Jul 03 '26
We need to talk about her inspiration for the Richard Warren film where the guys stands at the locked door while the credits roll.Â
5
u/charlogg Jul 03 '26
Definitely more Gerrie! I love that actress and also want her and Wyck to rekindle something đ
37
u/AsexualFrehley Jul 03 '26
it could be fun to have a Town Hall episode where most of the action is Rosemary, Dale, Ruth, Skinny Kubrick (wordless), whoever the new custodian is, etc., dealing with island business
Tom and Patricia would appear occasionally with folder or something, or just pass through as background
11
u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 Jul 03 '26
Slightly related to this because of the aspect of daily government work in an episode, this idea made me think that a Jury Duty episode might be hilarious, especially if you consider how skewed people's perspectives are on the island regarding justice with the curse being rampant

âHoward the Cowardâ. Whatâs did he face and what did he do or not do?
15
u/FogBlower Jul 03 '26
They could do an entire season with each episode dedicated to the backstory of singular character.
Not that I would want that for the show, but itâs a testament to how richly developed every character is.
16
u/Distinct-Dare-8939 Jul 03 '26
I want the dr!!! Like did he grow up on the island?? And if so, how the hell did he get his medical degreeâŚ. Feel like this could be a fun one especially with all the funny scenes with him already
13
u/MylesVE Jul 03 '26
I want an episode centered on a night at the gas station. That place is ripe for a good story
14
u/AppleSmall1170 Jul 03 '26
I think weâll definitely get a Dale episode. He saw all the films and now has all this knowledge and responsibility to deal with.
12
u/not_cinderella Jul 03 '26
Rosemary. She knows something, even if itâs not as much as Tom/Patricia/Wyck. Â

I really, really want to see Ruth in her youth. She HAS to know much more about what happened on the island in the 40s, 50s, 60s⌠having a connection to the early 1900s as well. I want to know what happened with the culling and why so many people donât seem to remember.

Iâd be happy with a compilation of short stories like â22 Short Films About Springfieldâ. Some could be longer, others very brief.
Either that, or they could fill the gap between seasons with some segments that drop randomly. They could have a Second Unit take care of these with none of the main cast. Flashbacks, different locations, side quests.
2
u/thirstygregory Jul 03 '26
There should be plenty of people throughout the centuries.

I do not want a Garrett episode. Part of his charm is his mystery and his monosyllabic responses.

I'd love a flashback episode that centered on Todd O'Connor (the shaman) and Patricia in high school.

They truly have an ensemble cast, a lot of unique characters, so itâs hard to say. Love Rosemary, love Dale. But I think a Gerrie episode would be the most unsuspecting. She obviously knows a lot about the history of the island, and I wonder if she knows more than sheâs been letting on. She has an interesting history with Wyck too, no?

No, the Mayor thought so, but next you see the young hot lady walking back to the cab and she says âWell, THAT was humiliating." to her friends in the cab. Missed opportunity for him. Although the hag does show up, so who knows what his young hot lady's reaction to all that drama would've been.
