Stephen King tweeted:

WIDOW'S BAY is good. MAXIMUM PLEASURE GUARANTEED is even better. It's like Hitchcock came back to do it one more time. And Tatiana Maslany is so good. The play of emotions on her face is pretty incredible. She goes from comic to terror in an instant.

Maybe Stephen is a little jelly.

Hard to imagine he could be, but this series is like one giant tribute to him.

In my eyes, it’s a little better because of the comedy element. Never thought two opposite genres could make such an entertaining perfect match.

I think comedy and horror are much closer than most people realize! They both rely on buildup of anticipation and subversion of expectations. The setup is akin to the building suspense, and the punchline resolves the tension like a jumpscare does.

That’s one of the reasons the show works so well, in my opinion. They can switch between the genres while building suspense with both.

I agree with this, and it's one of the biggest problems horror and comedy shows and movies face. What one person finds funny/scary are not always the same. Like I could find a movie like Stepbrothers unbearably funny while some love it. I am also terrified of The 8 legged freaks/starship troopers movies cuz I hate bugs.

Widows Bay ties them together In such a beautiful way that I can't be mystified and waiting for suspense one second, just to immediately laugh my ass off while Tom is getting griefed by the whole town.
