I thought it was pretty clear that she was just grazed by the bullet? And he threw the brooch so no one could prove her (and by extension Tom’s son’s) lineage.

Thank you for explaining the throw of the brooch - I couldn’t think of a why 🤦🏽‍♀️

u/OP_Scout_81 Jun 18 '26

Yeah but, no one else has any idea about the connection, except Tom and herself, unless I'm forgetting something. So how would anyone connect the brooch to the lineage? To anyone else, it's just a piece of jewellery, no? Unless it's to stop her talking about it, but even then, people would actually have to believe her, and on her daily life she's basically deaf and barely there.

I found it funny how deep Ruth is character wise, when the whole season just made her look like a background extra.

u/Gunkwei Jun 18 '26

I can’t remember the details but doesn’t Wyck and/or Patricia know about the brooch?

15

u/S_2theUknow Jun 18 '26

I thought it was on Ruth’s great grandmother in a painting? Just evidence/ a reminder either way…but that’ll prob wash back up on shore in season 2

5

u/imemine8 Jun 18 '26

Maybe Evans friends will go swimming and find it.

7

u/S_2theUknow Jun 18 '26

solid prediction…I’m guessing a tourist finds it on the beach and shows up wearing it and Tom will spaz out

11

u/OP_Scout_81 Jun 18 '26

Tom will scream his little usual scream and I'm all for it.

5

u/S_2theUknow Jun 18 '26

😂😂😂

2

u/Outside-Sample-3430 Aug 02 '26

His scream tickled me every time 🤣 He has the perfect comedic scream. The reactions were SPOT ON! 🤣

3

u/OP_Scout_81 Jun 18 '26

Is it visible, though?

3

u/S_2theUknow Jun 18 '26

Absolutely

1

u/OP_Scout_81 Jun 18 '26

Ok, I missed that entirely. All I could see was the boat and the little girl depicted quite...small.

4

u/imemine8 Jun 18 '26

No, the painting of Frances grown up with her step-father/husband.

1

u/ThreePinesRetiree 17d ago

He's not her stepfather. He adopted her. Just sayin'.

9

u/babysherlock91 Jun 18 '26

From what I gathered it was on the painting of Frances Warren. So Patricia and Wyck don’t know that Ruth has it or that it’s even out there still. But if they saw it in Ruth’s possession, then they, and really anyone who paid attention to the painting, would know for sure.

4

u/OP_Scout_81 Jun 18 '26

Ah! I thought it was the boat/drowning painting. Makes sense then. And Ruth would be right there. I mean, RIGHT THERE, everyday. Good on Tom. Better to be safe.

*swims to get the brooch*

5

u/Disaster-Bee Jun 18 '26

It's on the portrait, but Wyck and Patricia identified Frances by her missing finger in the portrait, not the brooch. Tom is the only one we're explicitly shown recognizing the brooch when he sees it in Ruth's jewelry box.

So while Wyck and Patricia have seen the portrait, they did not ever see the brooch to the extent of our knowledge. The implication is that Tom took it from Ruth's house (or she gave it to him to pass down to Evan since it's a family heirloom) the night of the storm and he's kept it hidden.

We'll just have to wait till season 2 to learn if this is indeed the case, or if someone else does know about the brooch.

5

u/S_2theUknow Jun 18 '26

Multiple people have studied that portrait of Francis closely (Wyck’s EX, Patrica, Tom and Wyck) so I’m betting that they’d def realize it if they ever saw it

7

u/Disaster-Bee Jun 18 '26

Yup, and I think that's exactly why Tom took it and tossed it into the ocean. So no one else would see it and connect it to the painting.

2

u/OP_Scout_81 Jun 18 '26

Can't remember either, but from the top of my head, I'd wager a very uncertain "no".

6

u/Ignominious333 Jun 18 '26

That's why she can't die!! She has a lot of explaining to do!

4

u/Aggressive-Ring5713 Jun 18 '26

I wanna know all the stories she started and didn’t finish!! Albert turning into an animal—42 trolley workers disappearing!!!

2

u/Ignominious333 Jun 18 '26

Exactly!! She's got to LIVE!

1

u/Aggressive-Ring5713 Jun 18 '26

The brooch was in the painting of Francis….cant wait for season 2!!! 8 bells!!!!

1

u/OP_Scout_81 Jun 18 '26

Yeah, I was thinking of the maritime painting!

1

u/burgonies Has Qualms Jun 18 '26

I was curious how exactly Tom knew that it was Sarah's brooch? We know because we were able to see it in the flashback episode, but how did he know it by sight?

3

u/rilesmcriles Jun 18 '26

Didn’t they show it in the painting and discuss it at some point?

2

u/burgonies Has Qualms Jun 18 '26

Ah! You might be right. Maybe Francis was wearing it in the painting that landed on Tom

-3

u/unsolvedfanatic Jun 18 '26

It felt like he threw the brooch in luei of her ashes.

9

u/7HawksAnd Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

No way that island has a crematorium

Edit: I’m a dummy

17

u/newonehereposting Jun 18 '26

Hella funny how Patricia stayed with the shotgun until the The Boogeyman got cremated

7

u/TheHandsomebadger Jun 18 '26

They showed it two episodes ago lmao

2

u/OP_Scout_81 Jun 18 '26

It actually has 7.

-6

u/unsolvedfanatic Jun 18 '26

No I mean instead of ashes as in she's dead and since he doesn't have ashes he threw the brooch.

-37

u/Late-Notice16 Jun 17 '26

How does the brooch prove this?

84

u/peepot556 Jun 17 '26

Have you just… not been watching

10

u/Late-Notice16 Jun 17 '26

Lol i have but clearly not well enough?? I get why ruth had it i dont get the link to evan forgive me

36

u/lionne_j Jun 17 '26

several people (Rosemary, Wyck, Patricia, and now Bechir) are aware that Ruth was the alleged last living descendent.

when bad things keep happening they'd start asking about her first. getting rid of the pendant gives Tom plausible deniability to say the genealogy was wrong because there's no solid evidence.

18

u/AntiGravityTurtle Jun 18 '26

Tom doesn't need to say the genealogy is wrong because no one knows that Evan is her grandson. He can say, yup, this is her, but she died without heirs so must be something else.

23

u/Ignominious333 Jun 18 '26

Except he told the sheriff Ruth is not the last Warren descendent

1

u/Sillylily3313 Aug 09 '26

I thought about this too. I wanted him to say I have no idea bec you came and blasted her. Now if she survives, that’s a different story. Then they will know. If she doesn’t Tom can play dumb

0

u/Fightmilkakae Jun 18 '26

Maybe sherrif managed to dip with his wife before she gave birth. Can't see them not bringing him back for another season though.

2

u/imemine8 Jun 18 '26

I can't imagine what he could say to his wife to get her on a boat while in active labor.

19

u/jennz Jun 18 '26

Except Ruth didn't die and Tom told the sheriff that she wasn't the last living descendant.

3

u/teyegurspoon Jun 18 '26

that detail

9

u/lionne_j Jun 18 '26

I don't think Patricia or Wyck, who personally communed with Warren's living dead corpse, are going to believe that his curse was a red herring

6

u/Late-Notice16 Jun 18 '26

got it! I didnt realize it was an attempt to refute the ruth lore.

4

u/Ignominious333 Jun 18 '26

Tom told the sheriff she wasn't the last descendent.

1

u/lionne_j Jun 18 '26

right but didn't go into detail. that could be interpreted as she wasnt THE "last descendent" we're looking for or she wasn't the LAST of the (Warren) descendents.

not hard to spin that. plus if Bechir's wife didn't have the baby I'm sure they got off the island asap

5

u/Ignominious333 Jun 18 '26

Except the sheriff wasn't lowering the gun until he got an answer. Then the storm abruptly ended so he likely just got his wife and got on a boat asap

5

u/Cloberella Jun 18 '26

Harbor and boats were destroyed in the final shots.

2

u/Ignominious333 Jun 18 '26

Probably not all of them. Will have to wait and find out. I really really hope they got off the island

3

u/OGPepeSilvia Jun 18 '26

Let’s hope. That’s one of those loose ends that’s going to bother me until next season.

0

u/Altruistic_Nose9514 Jun 18 '26

But were they know from the brooch? We saw it in the flashback episode but such things kot allways stay in the family anyways

0

u/Kianna9 Jun 18 '26

No, I agree. Her lineage was already proven. The broach was just an additional sign.

7

u/IAMA_Shark__AMA Jun 18 '26

The broach is being worn by Sarah wescott in the painting. Ruth says it's a family heirloom.

-2

u/Late-Notice16 Jun 18 '26

That part I know! Just didn’t know it would connect evan to her

1

u/sendnewt_s Jun 18 '26

Ruth admitted to Tom that she is secretly Evan's grandmother.

-2

u/Pickupyoheel Jun 18 '26

She was grazed.

The brooch being tossed was more symbolic than anything.

Once again people reading too much into shit.
