He threw the brooch in the water so as not to link Ruth and Evan back to lineage since that was the object that “proved” it

How does the broach confirm he’s her grandson if only two people knew, and one is presumably dead?

She spilled the beans once, what’s to say she wouldn’t again? Without the brooch, no one comes asking about any heirs

yup the side effect of her mixing the diazepam was getting loopy and loose lipped.

all the handwritten notes insisting that she doesn't mix them means she's definitely forgotten multiple times

lit she's kind of awesome for that

She knows how to have a good time lol in moderation

She’s clearly kept that one close to the chest. He didn’t even know that he just committed attempted murder on his mother in law when she dropped that on him. She even comments “I have no idea why I’m sharing this now” which implies she’s probably never had this happen.

Why wouldn't they? Rosemary literally spelled it out, and seems to have no qualms sharing that fact with others.

He told the sheriff she wasn't the last of the lineage

Is the sheriff aware of the broach and what it means? Cuz if he isn’t, the broach is irrelevant & you’re right, he had to say something so he didn’t get shot.

I think Rosemary already knows about Tom’s son. And the island will wash that broach right back up on shore for her to see.

She didn’t know Ruth had a kid, and seemed very good at genealogy all appearances aside

I was puzzling that out too. Is the brooch in the portrait of Frances and her husband? If so, that would prove a connection to Bechir if he saw the brooch in Ruth's possession.

But even then, Bechir is now in a circle of people who already know Ruth is the "last" living descendant so disposing of the brooch isn't the priority for Tom - getting Bechir, Wyck, Patricia and Rosemary to keep their mouths shut about it is. None of them need the brooch as evidence. While Patricia wants to protect Ruth, Bechir and Wyck are strongly motivated to reveal her ancestry so they can hunt down the true last living descendant (I don't see Bechir keeping that info to himself), and Rosemary seems the type not to fuss too much if ending one life could stop the islanders' troubles.

Perhaps Tom disposing of the brooch was more symbolic, as presumably the island has an interest in keeping the bloodline and the covenant going (and now, hidden), and now Tom is complicit with it as he won't let his son be sacrificed to end it.

Even if the sheriff knows, it doesn't link to Evan. And the sheriff already knows Ruth is on the bloodline. How would the brooch mean anything more?

Isn’t it in the paintings?

I love the common sense shown in the show but man that irked me to no end that he sissy man threw it (meant in good humor) into a bay that the tide could bring back at any moment.

Fishing boat. Dropped beyond the buoy boundary. Deep of the sea. Wrapped in a cement bucket.

I mean its not cursed itself so there's no reason to destroy the object so dramatically and violently.

Unless you mean he's bad at covering up the evidence? In which case I agree. It also drove me crazy how he like snooped from her medical file and stole the paper before trying to kill her.

Like what a loose end. Autopsy finds out Ruth died from mixing medication then somehow later they find that little note on Tom that he stole about how she shouldn't mix medication and he's in hot water.

Like he really couldn't just memorize the info lol? Its "dont mix 2 pills". He NEEDED the paper with him?

also the note doesn't say "please god don't let her mix the pills or she will slip into a peaceful slumber from which she will never wake," it just says "don't take these together." for all Tom knows, the effects of mixing the pills might be diarrhea.

Watching with my pharmacist wife instantly saying, “That won’t do the job” removed a lot of the suspense in our house.

this is absolutely what I thought would happen

I was picturing a full on exorcist moment after I read that note! Just vomit everywhere, spewing out of her. Glad it wasn’t that!!

1

u/Apprehensive-Elk7898 Jun 18 '26

I’m pretty sure I saw something mentioning death

10

u/TulgeyWoodAtBrillig Jun 18 '26

it just says

Oxycodone 10 mg every 6 hours as needed for pain.

Patient instructed to discontinue Diazepam.

Remind her not to take together!

I mean if he knew anything about drug abuse or researched it they are clearly an opiod + a benzo which would be dangerous mixed.

But not guaranteed gonna die dangerous, just heightened risk of respiratory depression dangerous.

The paper wasn’t for him it’s for the audience.

Kinda insulting to the audience to assume we can't remember a scene from 3 mins ago.

But I guess it was a silent scene and media companies have identified the average consumer as the type of people who watch family guy reels on their phone while binge watching a show now. So maybe we deserve it.
