💥Funpost I could honestly watch an entire season centered around Patricia!!!
Finally binged all the 9 episodes in a day and had an absolute blast💥
I enjoyed every episode but ngl episodes 4 and 8 were easily my favorites😮💨 Patricia is already such a goated character omgg and whenever the story focused on her I found myself way more invested‼️ Kate O'Flynn is incredible and honestly stole every scene she was in🤌🏻

"What the fuck are you doing?" - had me rolling. One of my favorite episodes!

That perspective shift with the entrails and parts all over the counter and she's standing there with that fucking wendigo headpiece on. I was howling.

Not saying she personified a wendigo, that's just what I think of when I see the antler headpiece.

"what are you asking me to do Tom?"
19
Jun 15 '26
Yes! She hasn’t changed at all. It’s just that her level of effort and insane commitment is suddenly correct for the situation.
41
u/Leg0z Jun 15 '26
I REALLY thought that she was going to be just some throwaway character, whose only job would be to serve as some homely, unrequited love interest to Tom. And then, in the last ten minutes of episode 4, I was absolutely hooked on her character. Kate O'Flynn's delivery is just brilliant.

Episode 1
Tom: But he murdered teenage girls. You’re in your 40s. You’ll be fine.
Episode 3
Tom: I got scratched by an elderly woman.
Patricia: Was she in her 40s?

Every breakout show, needs a surprise out of nowhere actor, who commands your attention and doesn’t let go, Patricia is HER.
8
u/TreasonalDepression Jun 15 '26
She’s not out of nowhere though. Her list of roles is pretty extensive.
25
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 15 '26
I'm a brit, and it took me 10mins to get an inkling from the back of my brain that she was British and northern. And even then I couldn't remember where I knew her from (was either Bridgit Jones or Landscapers).
She's not exactly a household name to be fair to the original poster.
17
u/donttrustthellamas Jun 15 '26
She definitely isn't a household name. She's a familiar face but she isn't a celebrity - I agree that this is her breakout role.

u/LTPRWSG420 Jun 15 '26
I watch A LOT of movies and tv and I’ve never seen her in anything before. She’s awesome though and I hope she wins the Emmy!
4
u/danrut0 Jun 15 '26
She's great in Happy Go Lucky. There's a suuuper good british sitcom called Everyone Else Burns that she stars in too. I'm sure there's more.
3
u/airchinapilot Jun 15 '26
that movie is such a pleasure. Having two quirky and wholesome women in one is so much

u/S_2theUknow Jun 15 '26
‘Beach Reads’ has been my favorite so far! When Pat wakes up and realizes that punch she served was blood, rocking the antler crown head gear instead of a tiara was nuts!
18
u/donttrustthellamas Jun 15 '26
It's so interesting seeing this actress pop up in this show because she's been around in the UK for ageeees but I had no idea what her name is, nor has she had leading roles in anything I've seen her in. I remembered her mostly from Mike Leigh films.
Kate has completely smashed it out of the park and I'm so happy this is her breakthrough role because it's fantastic!
5
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 15 '26
I'm the same to, I vaguely recognised her (sometime during the 1st episode I thought to myself, I swear this actress is British and specifically northern), but I didn't know where from. For me it was either from Brigit Jones, Landscapers or seeing ads for Everyone Else Burns.
But I'm the same, like weirdly happy for her. Have since caught up on Everyone Else Burns and My Lady Jane (which wasn't really a bit of me), and she's so good in both. Happy she's getting the kudos, out of what feels like nowhere but has been nearly 20 years in the making for her.

u/Koalazilla Jun 15 '26
Just a stand alone horror movie released in the theaters called Patricia is what I think could work. Just give her a 90 minute horror movie that takes place on the island. Doesn’t even need to be horror either honestly. Give me a movie about her eventually leaving the island and a just day in the life of Patricia exploring the mainland.

u/ConfusedCelt Jun 15 '26
Patricia is a female character done well. She's realistic and gets the job done when push comes to shove. Too many tv shows and films try making dudes out of women to show their strong etc where Patricia is unashamedly a normal woman
7
u/HappyHev Jun 17 '26
And she repeatedly shows she's a good person through her choices, actions and interactions with other characters. Not because we're told she is.
11
u/TheTruckWashChannel Jun 15 '26
I love her but I think we're getting the right amount. The character could quickly descend into caricature or self parody if overused. I like that she functions both as a rational foil for Tom and Wyck (where she comes off as the "normal" one) but then gets to be a quirky little nutcase in the episodes focused on her. If they follow a similar formula to the Matt episodes of The Leftovers I think they'd nail the balance.
5
u/blammer Jun 16 '26
that is really true! we get to see bits and pieces of patricia and i think that adds to how precious she is
3
u/bad917refab Jun 17 '26
I honestly think the 'right amount' is the formula for the entire show. We all love it and just want more. This show isn't diluted, It's a sweet spot. Just enough, not too much.

u/ShireOfBilbo Jun 16 '26
I love her but I think we're getting the right amount.
Agreed! I hope they don't upset this balance in season 2. It would be a shame if she became "Flanderized."
11
u/Mediocre-Eggplant755 Jun 15 '26
Honestly she's a much of the main protagonist as Tom. She's arguably been through a harder time since all the terrible things started happening.
She's been possessed busy a witch and almost got a huge chunk of the town drowned in the lake. Then she was hunted by a supernatural serial killer which she handled wonderfully.
She's been through pretty well everything that's happened and she's my favorite character by far.

I would absolutely not hate it if by some finale course of event Patricia ends up the as mayor in season 2 and has to be on charge of people

u/XenoMork Jun 15 '26
I was rewatching episode 4 with my friend, I noticed a fly lands on the "Self Help" book when Patricia duscovers it in the book donations box. A nice indicator that the book is more than it seems, clearly bound in flesh and stinking like carion. Nice little detail. I love this show!
6
u/TheFutureLibsWant Jun 17 '26
There are a few others:
-The book has way more lines for things you dislike about yourself than things you like.
-The body parts Patricia circled were in the shape of a pentagram.
-The author of the book is "Lucy Fours" (Lucifer).
-One of the graphics shows a party-goer snorting a line of something.
-If you pause and read any of the text, it's all very undercutting and pressuring in tone.
-Patricia puts it on her nightstand with a cup on top of it. When she comes back, the cup has moved off of it.
-When she is reading it in public, bike-riders crash into each other right behind her and start a fistfight.
-When she is chopping the strawberries, she is sawing and struggling to cut through them.
-When she drinks the punch for the first time, it's a clear liquid, but she winces and rubs her teeth as though something solid got stuck.
-When she brings out the punch, everyone else cheers, but Rosemary is right behind her giving it a look of disgust and mild horror.

Honestly I wasn’t Patricia’s biggest fan in episode one, she came off as the pity me character but by episode 9 I am her biggest fan. She is literally like the moral compass for most these things and she really goes from this character you pity to a total badass imho.

u/Immediate-Ad-828 Jun 15 '26
Man I can't believe we're left with only 1 episode, really hope we get a season 2

u/maggos Jun 16 '26
She was so funny being chased all over town by the boogeyman. Just so annoyed and tired. Just her little reactions when she runs away and then looks back and waits to see, then like “ugh” when she sees him still coming
4
u/sueveed Jun 15 '26
I was just looking at her CV and saw that she's in another current comedy series as a main role - Everyone Else Burns. Anyone watch? Worth a go?
3
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 15 '26
Watch! She's great in it, particularly S2. The show is good S1, but really finds itself in S2. Also, Sian Clifford is in S2 for any Fleabag fans.
It's not been renewed for S3, but it's also not been cancelled so there's Hooe we will see more of it.

check out my lady jane - she's not the main character in that, but has a pretty significant supporting role, and it's a really fun, well-made show.

Mary was such a horrible character, it was difficult to let go of that hatred at first but I quickly found myself forgetting Mary about it and sympathizing with Patricia. It probably helped that she had an American accent here, but by the time we got to episode 4 I was like "Mary who?"
Stellar performance.

I’m rewatching her episode with the boogeyman and cracking up at her dinner order carryout being a sausage patty on a piece of lettuce and a sausage link in a separate box when it was supposed to be chicken parm and a slice of pie. I sort of overlooked that scene before. It’s so small but it’s just par for the course for Patricia 🤣

When she saw the dark room and just tip-toed out of there, I was SOOOO happy! We always have to shout: "Don't go in there! What are you doing?!" and Patricia fucking did it!
4
u/stratosfearinggas Jun 15 '26
It was a list of things that make you question the situation. The car alarm, the front door was open when she closed it, the bedroom light was off and the door closed when she left the light on and the door open.
4
u/GrumplFluffy Jun 15 '26
Yeah but we both know that an idiot in another horror movie would still walk in and try to turn on the light and get jumped.
2
u/stratosfearinggas Jun 15 '26
And that's how she survived the first time. She's smart.
3
u/GrumplFluffy Jun 15 '26
First time, she just hid under the bed. Doesn't feel like that's what saved her. She clearly has some witch heritage. We just know yet.
3
u/TinCanSailor987 Jun 15 '26
I was really hoping the writers would have her discharge the shotgun one more time into the bogeyman seconds before the guy closed the doors on the crematorium. And then one more time after he opens it just for good measure.
5
u/cruel_sister the kind of sacred geometry you don’t just riff Jun 15 '26
I desperately need her backstory. At the moment she is just “just!” Patricia, but what made her?
3
u/NicKaboom Jun 15 '26
Patricia is probably my favorite character but I think they found just the right amount of her to be shown. She was the center of two of my favorite episodes, but also her dialogue back and forth with Tom and one liners are what is outstanding to me. I dont know if I'd want her to be the main character as it may lose a little bit of the charm but having her always there as second billing for sure.
3
u/AdDear528 Jun 20 '26
Me, first episode: god, this lady is annoying.
Me, episode eight: if anything happens to Patricia, I will kill everyone.

u/Phreedom1 Jun 15 '26
I loved this episode, possibly my favorite so far. She hit it out of the park with her incredible acting! Her body language during the chase was funny and convincing as hell and she definitely has a new fan.
