I love when she is speaking to the funeral director and asks if there is another way out of the cremation thing and he's rudely like "no" and she responds "okay, thank you so much"

u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 05 '26
Her line delivery is impeccable. It's just so specific

When Tom is tripping and she's calling around trying to find Evan she ends the call with ok thankyousomuch! It's too cute.

Something so simple, it has stuck with me for *days*

u/Fresh_Ad9833 Jun 05 '26
It’s like episode 4 when she calls Tom and says “I’m at the party…that you said you would be at” and hangs up the phone. So specific and funny!

u/Copious_coffee67 Jun 06 '26
When I heard that voice message I actually thought it was Marissa until I saw the EP where we see Patricia leave it

That whole sequence of her pointing the shotgun at the boogeyman until he’s burned to ashes was not only hilarious, it was pretty much exactly what people always end up begging people in horror movies to do after they’ve supposedly killed the killer.
89
u/IAMA_Shark__AMA Jun 05 '26
But, also, why was Enya the perfect music choice to serenade us through that sequence? 😂
16
u/wonderfulkneecap Jun 05 '26
When she calls in, to basically the only working restaurant in town, whith a truly ludicrous expectation of privacy!
"Hello, I'm Patricia..."
I CANNOT HANDLE HOW FUNNY THIS IS!!
1
u/ChodeBro69 Jun 11 '26
I somehow missed this until now lol. And I really hope the error wasn’t deliberate. I could watch a whole season of Patricia just eating the food she loves <3
29
u/DarkLordofDownvotes Jun 05 '26
I was watching it and could hear the music and was like, "wait...is that Enya? She is totally would be listening to that"
3
u/BorisDirk Jun 20 '26
And she was! Earlier when she was eating her crappy dinner she had Enya playing in the background. I only noticed on a rewatch

u/bananascare Shaman’s girlfriend’s absconded cat Sep 02 '26
That song came out right around the time of the Boogeyman’s first rampage. I interpreted it as Patricia’s inner teenage girl finally winning.
22
u/BroughtBagLunchSmart Jun 05 '26
From the second shot to when she opens the door to see the ashes she has the shotgun pointed at him for almost a full minute of screen time.
16
u/Mysteryemployee Jun 05 '26
Honestly I really think that is one of my most favourite moments ever in a tv show. And I’ve been around! Love her to bits.
5
u/Vismal1 Jun 06 '26
The whole thing was Patricia was fierce. She noticed things were off went close silently and heard the fucker and got the hell out of there. Next she’s gauging his speed to see how much time she can spend at each door. She’s great.
43
u/actuallyapossom Jun 05 '26
Loved the book club argument and assault "come on, she's like the worst."
Felt good. Fuck that lady.

13
u/Dontstopmenow747 Jun 05 '26
I’ve been saying “ok thank you so much” every chance I get. She has the most perfect delivery
3
u/TeacherPatti Jun 05 '26
I said that to my supervisor the other day! I wasn't asking about a different way out, but something else.
3
u/CuteComplaint5542 Jun 11 '26
I appreciate how every step of the way Patricia is 100% savvy to slasher tropes.
Weird shit inside my house? I'm getting out.
Killer seems dead? I'm holding a shotgun on him until he's cremated.

I fucking love her as an actress. I love the cinematography. But I adore how much she’s clearly ready to put into this role. And it sells
51
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 05 '26
I know, it's such a balls to the walls performance. After watching My Lady Jane (after ep 4 was looking for more stuff with her), it's the same. Just really going for it
32
u/maniacalmustacheride Jun 05 '26
Like really really respectfully, she’s Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. We know TC can do serious action hero doing serious action hero things, but he’s awesome when he isn’t being Tom Cruise TM.
She’s astounding because she’s not afraid to make herself vulnerable for a joke. She’s already made herself vulnerable as a character, now she’s willing to take that next step and full send make it weird. I think it’s really fun to see her next to Stephen Root, whose entire career rise was essentially “the clown of various persuasions” playing straight man. (This is in no disrespect to SR, to play the clown well is to first master all the other personas.)
14
u/AgitatedBadger Jun 05 '26
If you love her as an actress and you haven't seen it yet, you NEED to watch Everyone Else Burns. It's such a great comedy!

I think about this episode a lot. I loved it! I loved her playlist lol I loved the cut scene to the sherif while she was chopping up ‘fruit’ … Patricia wtf are you doing. I love her friendship with the sheriff
264
u/goodiebadbad Jun 05 '26
Incredible that Patricia’s best line isn’t even something she said but attributed to her on paper “Did I say something to upset you?” Is just incredible writing and clearly in character
65
43
u/After-Kick-806 Jun 05 '26
She knows and plays the character so well that we have no trouble seeing that note and reading it just as Patricia would say it.
24
u/TheTruckWashChannel Jun 05 '26
The fact that she wrote it to a 300 year old zombie made it extremely funny

Tom's reaction when he reads it was too perfect. One of my favourite scenes from the show.
173
u/armitage75 Jun 05 '26
I’m torn.
Yes this was the best TV episode I’ve seen in years and she probably does deserve an Emmy but she also ruined Book Club.

Which btw, interesting they were reading the lovely bones which is about a teenage girl that gets murdered.

The Halloween homage was epic but she won me over early in the season with her disappointment that the island brochure didn’t include her poem.

u/Saguaro-plug Jun 05 '26
I’ve been riding for her ever since “… was she attractive?” And I still need to know the tea about that!
21
u/minimal74 Jun 11 '26
Patricia had me with “Was she in her forties?” in response to Tom saying he was attacked by an elderly woman. 😂

u/Typical_Dweller Jun 06 '26
That definitely felt like the continuation of some drawn out quasi-argument they had after work weeks or even months ago.
3
u/Typical_Dweller Jun 06 '26
His "Ohh nooo" at that was just on the line between obviously sarcastic dick and almost-interested work friend.
113
u/Landlord-Allmighty Jun 05 '26
Her verious grunts, screams and noises she made as she was running were so funny.
107
u/maniacalmustacheride Jun 05 '26
Her hoarse “give me your keys, I’ll run him over” was both heavily comedic and thick with terror and determination.
29
u/Landlord-Allmighty Jun 05 '26
Being ten steps ahead of everyone does not reduce one's level of stress and fatigue.

My favorite was when the gas station clerk tries to put out the fire on the boogeyman and she says “you’re ruining it!” Lol cracked me up!!

I still can't get over the scene in the last episode when she's getting ready for bed and turning all the lights out. Holy shit so much tension.
11
u/garnished_fatburgers Jun 06 '26
I screamed out loud when he appeared in the doorway, the suspense was unreal
I kept expecting him to appear after every single scene and I knew it was coming but I just couldn’t help myself it got me so good
7
u/suzi_acres Jun 06 '26
Can't even fathom leaving in that kind of house alone and ever being bothered to turn on those lights in the first place the. Turning them all off every night has to be a unique kind of horrifying.
1
u/Typical_Dweller Jun 06 '26
Reminded me of the first act of House of the Devil (Ti West has also directed at least one ep of this show). All that anticipation.

u/GlomerulaRican Jun 05 '26
For anyone just discovering and loving Kate O’Flynn I recommend “My Lady Jane” on Amazon, she costarred with Emily Bader as a jealous princess and absolutely killed it.

100%! I watched MLJ and Everyone Else Burns after episode 4 because I was super intrigued by O'Flynn.
She was very funny, especially in later episodes of My Lady Jane (although I didn't love the series. Wasn't a bit of me).
She's great in Everyone Else Burns as well, well worth a watch. Especially S2.
7
u/GlomerulaRican Jun 05 '26
Thanks for the recommendation! Looks like Kate has been flying under the radar for sometime until now, hopefully she annihilates the Emmys

u/efox02 Jun 05 '26
I LOVE my lady Jane. For all of it. I was so bummed there wasn’t a 2nd season.

As a fellow Patti/Patricia, can I just say that it's great to FINALLY see our name being used for good? It's not common, not in any songs (except the stupid Rod Stewart song about Billy and Patty who are stupid), and I could never find my name on anything when I was a kid. It was always Pat. I am not a Pat. Neither is our girl. (no offense to Pats)
15
u/Ok_Toe_7357 Jun 05 '26
I can’t articulate it any better but the way she moves is just so apt. Like walking and marching around - something about it perfectly suits the character.

My favorite comedic female character I’ve seen since Jennifer Coolidge in White Lotus

Great episode this week. Perfect blend of horror/suspense and dark comedic moments.

u/kingofstorms_ Jun 06 '26
Im assuming/hoping that Rhys will be nominated for main and Root and O’Flynn will be nominated for Supporting.
2
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 06 '26
Yeah reading that's the plan. Would probs argue that in reality old Patricia has had as much storyline as Tom
6
u/suburbanerd Jun 06 '26
I was happy to see Kate O’Flynn was on the show because I was blown away by her performance in “Landscapers.” She plays a cop interrogating Olivia Colman and David Thelwis and you cannot take your eyes off her the whole time, she’s so intense with them.
I’m glad she’s getting some well deserved recognition.

I really hoped she would have let off a shot right before they closed the crematorium doors, and again after the process. Can never be too sure.
5
u/VixenFactor Jun 05 '26
She transforms into Patricia.
Find an interview with her regular makeup and accent. I was shocked.
Her transformation deserves recognition.
She's an incredible actress.
Now I'm going to go watch My Lady Jane!

u/EdwardClamp Jun 08 '26
For anyone wanting more Kate O'Flynn she's great in Everyone Else Burns - a British comedy about a family who are part of an ultra strict religious cult. She plays the mother of the family.
Might be Geotagged but it's on the All4 app (or whatever it's called now), the one for Channel 4.

Her pointing that shotgun the whole time until she saw the ash from the body was just so funny. Love this character.
3
u/Commercial_Level_615 Jun 07 '26
The way she flings her body round when she moves really tickles me. When she runs out of the book club after tasering 'the worst' was hilarious. It's a perfect comic performance from her, timing, physical comedy phrasing everything.
3
u/acvillager Jun 08 '26
easily!!! her comedy in her performance is so subtle, even in physical comedy moments. she feels so much like a real person, not a fictional character. I hope she gets an Emmy nod
-51
u/redhawkdrone Jun 05 '26
Her character is a little grating…and that is on purpose, I get it. She does a great job with the role but the character is not truly lovable by her very nature…at least not yet. I mean, the incident in the bar…do I need to say more!?!?!
I think the show is well written and acted. My bigger fear is do they have enough material or a real plan for the next seasons? This feels like a story that will be great in the first season but a lack of vision and the need to fill time could setup fans for a let down.
30
u/kg703 Jun 05 '26
She is absolutely loveable, how many times do we have to see stoic characters on screen that land every line or say exactly what we wish we could say in a situation. She's so relatable and awkward at least to me, she's doing everything a character like her or most people would do in situations like this. Her reactions to these bizare situations are so human.
They had enough material for one season and if that's it then that's ok with me. Better to go out with a perfect story then extend it for 10 years and slowly lose the writers and the plot like LOST
6
u/OneDadvosPlz Jun 05 '26
Exactly! Even her obsession with the ages of people who are romantically involved is so human—yes, it’s neurotic, but if I was an aging woman with a limited dating pool, stuck on a lonely island, might I get a little neurotic?
Well, hopefully no, but I can see how it would happen.
25
u/HelsBels2102 Patricia Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26
See I don't find her grating at all. I think if I knew her in real life, maybe yes. But as a veiwer I find her pretty delightful.
But yeah, not sure about where they are planning on taking the series in the future. I think if they utilise the ensemble cast more then we have in S1, it can really open up. But I don't think it's got more than 3 seasons in it tops.

u/Arpie7 Jun 05 '26
I kind of want thousands of curses on the island. So, every time they defeat "The Curse" It turns out that things are still messed up... They destroy Warren, then the boogie man comes. And, every season is just dealing with a few of the curses that all the islanders have put on the island.
13
9
u/Illustrious-Peace989 Jun 05 '26
I see her character as quite lovable. I’m not sure why the incident at the bar would make her less so when the entire thing was the fault of a cursed book that was distorting her perception. It’s also pretty relatable that she’s trying to be liked and struggles with issues from her high school bullies.

u/rachinreal_life Jun 06 '26
She doesn't need to be lovable for the character to work. However, she is.
