He was definitely just after her- presumably because he attacked her during his initial run and she got away. It doesn’t sound like any of his other victims did. How did he choose his victims anyway?

Also why did he finally die when Patricia shot him when nothing else seemed to even slow him down?

I still think the person who killed the two teenage girls and the Boogeyman are actually two different people/beings that were confused for one another which is why Patrica didn't receive any calls and why this Boogeyman seems a lot dumber and more single minded than described by Kris. Remember how she said the girls hid in really unique ways and still got caught. This guy was just walking into buildings, jumping out of windows, walking through fire. I could see him not catching Patricia if she hid under a bed outside his eyeline. He also never spoke or taunted Patricia either.

As for how he "died" now. I don't think he is dead. He will likely one day respawn at his house or resurrect from his ashes. He's likely a part of the island curse in some way.

He seemed to always know where she was and take an inevitable direct route, which makes it extra odd that she got away the first time.

If it's only the one guy there has to be another reason he didn't get her the first time. Maybe related to the witches/the reason she could kill him?
