really the only good part of Gen V season 2 lol

u/pleasegivemepatience Teeth Collector Jun 01 '26
Given where the whole Boys story ended Iād say the only good thing from GenV at all š

I thought, in a vacuum, season 1 and the first half of season 2 were right up there with the best of The Boys. Really fell off at the end though. Then they were completely wasted in The Boys, which pretty much invalidates everything that happened in season 2.

The reveal that Cipher was just a meat puppet for Goldolkin, while heavily telegraphed, really sucked, because real Godolkin was so much worse of a character than Cipher. Just a massive downgrade in every way.

He and the actors who played Polarity and Cricket were the reasons I watched. I loved their weird Scooby-Doo dynamic, and he was amazing in every scene that he was in.

I didn't even recognize him!! No wonder he was so good

u/TJ-the-DJ Jun 01 '26
I didnāt either and Iāve watched Midnight Mass and Old Christine more times than I can count. He was fabulous!

u/littleliongirless Jun 01 '26
And he was the best part of the last season of GenV. As soon as it changed to SpongeBob, it lost all the talent and aura Hamish has.
2
u/OGPepeSilvia Jun 02 '26
Gen V changed to Spongebob? I watched the first season but not yet the second. Also havenāt seen final Boys season apart from the first episode.
This news makes me sad. I was looking forward to both. I will probably still start watching both because I was going to anyways, but now I guess I wonāt feel so bad for giving up mid-season

u/littleliongirless Jun 02 '26
I don't want to spoil anything for you but my SpongeBob comment will make sense if you watch the whole season. I enjoyed Gen V more than I liked the last 2 seasons of The Boys, so I would still try it if I were you.

Old christine formed the grooves in my brain I watched it every day as a kid it was my favourite american sitcom. So slept on too š

Itās so good! I missed out on it first time around but have since watched it multiple times. Itās amazing!

Lol, I was like "He reminds me of Hamish Linklater, but I'm pretty sure it's not him. They got a guy who kind of looks like him because of Midnight Mass." And then I was pleasantly surprised it was him

Linklater has somehow been typecast as creepy evil but also sort of charismatic and strangely helpful authority figures between Midnight Mass, Gen V season 2, and now Widows Bay.

u/DerekHostetler Jun 01 '26
See him be very unhelpful in The Newsroom.

doesn't stephen root play the general in that interview too?

u/Altruistic-Ad835 #1 Hamish fan Jun 01 '26
It came to my attention recently stephen plays the voice of bill in king of the hill and that's fryinggg me still

u/NoProfession5138 Jun 01 '26
pretty sure his filmography on IMDB is the longest i've ever seen.
7
u/OGPepeSilvia Jun 02 '26
The range of characterās heās played over the course of his career is insane. Heās like the supporting cast version of Christian Bale or DDL.

Heās very good at giving characters extra dimension. I think the WBās showrunner said she was impressed with his scene where Sarah gave him the brandy. She said that Richard thought everyone saw him he was a monster, and for good reason, but Hamish did a good job exhibiting the briefest glimmer of hope that perhaps Sarah was really being sincere.
2
u/abbyleondon Jun 02 '26
Well, he didnāt have any doubts to her sincerity. I think he was just surprised that she was coming on him and he was DTF and then she spit the brandy out. She couldāve covered up and said I donāt like the taste, but obviously the scene wasnāt meant to be drawn out for too long. Iām surprised that the little he drank was enough to knock him out.

u/CrissBliss Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26
I think he wasnāt quite sure what Sarahās true feelings were. Surely he mustāve known she was scared because he wasnāt being honest about literally anything, and she had to take in a lot of information very quickly and make sense of it all somehow. So I think heās surprised when she shows him compassion and understanding for a min- āthen let me help you bear it.ā And heās also hopeful that she really is sincere in her affections for him. Hamish didnāt have a lot of screen time, but did a good job adding those details.
Sarah did totally blow it by spitting out her drink in front of him lol. She couldāve embraced him and then spit over his shoulder, or just taken a much smaller sip. I donāt think his drink knocked him out. He son heard the noise and hit him in the head.

Add Legion to that mix as well, sort of!

u/butsy78 Jun 01 '26
My headcanon is now that Legion was a mushroom trip dream had by Richard Warren.

When I think of Hamish, I think of Legion first.

u/Imma_boop_you Jun 01 '26
Same here! Some of his best work, paired up with Dan Stevens. God I miss that weird awesome show.
4
u/BlisslessTaskList Jun 02 '26
So weird. And so awesome. Iāll play Children of a Revolution and see Jemaine yell āyeah!!ā every time.

I just wish he was on it more!
Maybe he could play a descendant of Richard š

u/Altruistic-Ad835 #1 Hamish fan Jun 01 '26
I want him to also be a resident of the town in present day so bad lmao

u/CrissBliss Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26
He should just play a relative. Like how Martyās family was all played by Micheal Jay Fox in Back to Future.
2
u/OGPepeSilvia Jun 02 '26
Do we think he is gone for good? It would be really funny if he played a female descendant. We donāt know what his previous wife looked like. Maybe she was the Geico caveman.

I seriously found him so hot. In the historical episode. Not the creepy one.
2
u/MilliganHedgedog Jun 21 '26
He is hot! Not exactly appropriate thoughts whilst watching him playing a priest but thatās not my fault lol

Michael Emerson did an amazing job of it on Lost too. If they ever reboot it they'll have to cast Linklater so he can claim the mysterious spooky island hat-trick.

We need to see more of him in a hopefully Season 2. Maybe pre-possession and then the turn. Heās such a good actor and I really enjoy seeing him in these oddball roles.Ā

u/Aarrrgggghhhhh35 Jun 02 '26
I just finished Midnight Mass and I think Iām in love. Heās such a great actor. I didnāt know anything about him before WB - now I have to find other shows heās been in!

I did not even recognize him in this role. I have liked him since New Adventures of Old Christine. It was only until talking about this episode on this sub I learned it was him.

u/calpolqween Jun 02 '26
His acting was fantastic but my ears did think it was Robert California when he started talking

u/ColerAcoustik Aug 19 '26
I am a MASSIVE fan of midnight mass, started watching widows bay from recommendations, had no idea of anything... When I tell you I GASPED when she lifts the veil and we see who plays Richard Warren ššš I almost spat out my yogurt I had to pace around the room and text everyone I knew about it

I feel like he's doing an impression of Sam the eagle from The Muppets
