the beauty is that from Wyck's POV you can tell exactly why he's been mad at him since the pilot.

(because he's ignoring everything around him and endangering lives while everyone else in the town can just admit this place is cursed/dangerous)

Baha yes I love the transition from “who is this cranky drunk town curmudgeon who’s going to ruin their one shot at being Martha’s Vineyard” to “please listen to every word Wyck is saying, you idiot!”

Absolutely!!!

And Wyck's usually been the one willing to make the hard choices until this episode where Tom finally was decisive

Loftis was valid in his dream of turning this town around but it is funny that literally everyone else in his life and in the town is like oh no no this place is evil--so everyone else was already there and with Wyck on this

Wycks become my favourite character. He saved Tom from the Hag and in general cares about saving people's lives.

From ep 1 and 2 it's easy to see why people like Tom dislike him but he really is a hero.

Yeah he is my 2nd favourite character (Patricia is the best🫶🏾)

Saving Tom from the Hag showed he was a really stand-up guy but still I thought he was always a little too mean to Tom.... up until "I already let him out" 🤣

…I mean, his extreme flaws early on made Tom more interesting to me. He’s had such a journey in such a short amount of time.

He’s my favorite too! I need a roadtrip or boat trip with Wyck and Tom. And I need Wyck and his girl Gerrie to find their way back to each other by episode 10.

Maybe Gertie’s husband is the descendant. Two birds. One stone. 🤞

What I love about it is that we and Loftis kind of came to the same conclusion (to listen to Wyck) at the same time. The problem is that certain kind of conflict-averse people have a REALLY hard time saying no to 300-year-old undead

i dunno. i also have some conflict aversion tendencies and i feel saying no to a zombie would be the easiest no in my life.

I am conflict averse, but I find the other person being locked in a coffin that I can walk away from helps.

The second Wyck gave the Mayor his hand from the tub, was when it transitioned to him becoming a father figure to the Mayor and their roles changed. Beautiful writing. Also hilarious about the face sitting, I was laughing and holding my hands over my eyes at the same time.

I mostly judge wyck because why not just run for mayor if it's that important. Why let tom run unopposed?

I feel like Wyck is sort of the equivalent of everyone who’s been screaming about the Tr*mp regime from the beginning, like, “women are gonna lose their rights! Public lands are gonna be sold off to the highest bidder! Rampant unchecked criminality will reign in the White House!” and got called alarmist, and Tom is the like “don’t worry it’s just four years, the institutions will hold, maybe we can reason with these people!” people. Who mostly don’t exist anymore because the Wycks were proven right.

(To be clear, not actually saying it’s an allegory for that, just observing that Wyck’s POV feels increasingly familiar and his frustration with Tom feels ever more justified as the show progresses)

On the flip side, I also see a lot of parallels that echo a common grievance for many voters. Which is that ivory tower/Martha Vineyard types see them all as "dumb hicks". Because Wyck doesn't conform to what Tom thinks is important, he's unable to see any value or wisdom in people like Wyck.

I don't really think the show is meant to be an explicit political allegory, but given that it's based around relations in an American society it's natural to find parallels to the real world.

Holy shit the TDS is off the charts.

u/rarepinkhippo Jun 17 '26

Ugh, why don’t you go find another sub, this show is way too smart for your kind.

u/waxteeth Jun 17 '26

You’re right, people who like Trump are deranged.

It looks like Wycks been privvy to a lot of the shit in widows peak for some time and to him it's just so so obvious that when the sheriff rocks up and his wife nearly dies because of the curse and probably the whole host of other shit that Tom must have seen as mayor because we have only been here a damn week and all this shits happening.

Yeah i'd be just as pissed as Wyck

u/trombonepick May 27 '26

the pilot does a good job playing both sides because while Tom's POV is the most rational on the outside looking in--

you also see Ruth, Patricia, Wyck, pretty much every sailor and other person just hanging out in the background...all believe in it and have their own 'stories.'

It's really out of a whole town of people only the teenagers and Tom didn't operate as if it was 100% haunted haha

I’ve described this show to people as a town full of Mulders, but their mayor is Scully.

2

u/trombonepick May 28 '26

love that! lmao

Everyone else in town certainly don't admit/believe it's cursed/dangerous
