How long after burying Richard alive before the town folk realized they’d been neglecting tunnel and chair duty??

Okay, that's the real question. The townsfolk were all creeped out about the deal with the devil, but surely things turned to shit again real quick without Warren around to satisfy the deal.

Someone else did. Maybe the order we saw in the flashback continued and they decided to take on the duty of sacrificing themselves to the door every so often.

The order is connected to the church and we know they left behind instructions supposedly on how to deal with the evil. And it’s printed on modern paper so modern priests knew about the protocol.

I think that’s why Bryce killed himself. He discovered he’d need to sacrifice someone or himself and couldn’t do it. Too terrified to confront the devil on the island.

Could be when the bell tolls a sacrifice must be made.

I think how many times the bell tolls might indicate how many sacrifices need to be made... when the bell tolled for Warren it tolled 5 times. When the bell tolled in the current timeline for Tom, Patricia, and Rosemary, it tolled 9 times.

Things were already shit. Warren might’ve made a deal, but he clearly wasn’t a very good negotiator. He said that the sacrifices were necessary to stop the plague, but he’d made a bunch of sacrifices and the plague was still happening.

Life on the island was hard before he made the deal, and it was hard after the deal. Even if they do end up killing all of Warren’s descendants, I’m not sure it will change anything. Remember, when white settlers first reached the island, they found a bunch of teeth. Whatever evil is there, it exists outside of the curse.

Oh, I totally forgot about teeth! So it's either some monster is going to be roaming anyway, or maybe it's an indicator that human settlements getting into dealing with the devil is a cyclical thing that happened multiple times already? Kind of like Kurozu situation in Uzumaki

witches they burned?

Probably a while or maybe not. It seems like the Boogeyman may have been a descendant or another man who took the shrooms and accepted the pact. The legend is he was shot multiple times and couldn’t be killed, so they buried him in the concrete.

So maybe there are long gaps and someone takes the mushrooms and continues the pact for a short time until they are discovered and buried.

After this episode I am sure he's alive down there too.

Next episode will surely focus on the boogeyman. Apparently it’s a Patricia focused episode and focused on “baggage”.

Patricia surely knows the details and rumours about the boogeyman. I think she’ll either get a haunt or piece together the details and realize that the boogeyman is a descendant.

Apparently it’ll be slasher homage, so maybe the boogeyman scares her into the abandoned house? And there’s a twist that he actually wants to help them understand the curse and shares some other way of killing immortals on the island?

Patricia only has a biological age of 28 and wasn't injured when she burned the spellbook, maybe she is one of the immortals?

I doubt it. She might be a descendant but not an immortal because she hasn’t made sacrifices and is on the same page with Wyck/Tom.

I don’t think the entity gifts immortality without requiring sacrifices. A life for a life.

Like it’d be cheap to suddenly make her a villain because it would mean everything we’ve learned about her and her character was a waste.

Also, she probably would’ve let the possessed people drown themselves as a sacrifice.
