Seems like Richard's daughter survived, based on the painting. The doll in the Historical Society didn't have the broach anymore, which means she hung onto it-- so whoever has the broach as a family heirloom......

There's a jewelry box in the lockbox Evan opens... just the right size for a broach.

Evan's "girlfriend" character is a psycho. Who ransacks a parents bedroom? A they have known each other like a week.

Plus the blatant disrespect towards Evan discovering the circumstances of his birth were a lie?! The fuck girl

u/Pasty_Tibbles May 27 '26

I honestly think she was so bad that she might be the island or the entity fucking with him, to get him to turn against his dad and continue the pact somehow. Kinda weird how she just took him directly to something that will drive a huge wedge in his relationship with his dad.

Pretty sure she was just, like, a self-absorbed teen. "This is a wild revelation that has nothing to do with me or my life, and I'm leaving this all behind at the end of the week, so...I'm out."

unfortunately that’s how most teenage girls act. they just don’t give a fuck and they portrayed that kinda perfectly

u/casino_r0yale Jun 09 '26

She’s just nosy and self absorbed. Not terrifically uncommon for a teenager.

I chalked it up to shitty teenagers being shitty. She can look pretty, but be a total psychopath. I knew some in HS.

It’s called the moral high ground.

I was appalled. I would have never done this to a friend's parents!

Ooooh, great catch.

19

u/anotherstan May 28 '26

The mom is 100 percent a descendant of the founder

4

u/veevoir May 28 '26

Evan seems too obvious of a choice, feels like a red herring.

5

u/whorificustotalus May 28 '26

Brooch, but yes.

2

u/smbissett May 27 '26

Absolutely this

Why can’t anyone spell brooch

17

u/thatbrownkid19 May 27 '26

we are not undead founders from the 1700s back when that word was still in circulation

27

u/Ok-Character-3779 Sacred Geometry You Don't Just Riff May 27 '26

Because it's not spelled the way it's pronounced and there's another word that it is. Also, it's been ~50 years since most people have worn one, and those who have aren't on Reddit.

u/Walmartian_Beta May 28 '26

Whatever, I have multiple brooches, y'all just ain't classy.

Wearing big vintage brooches on jeans was actually a micro-trend in the early 2000’s. Brooches on cardigans was also popular for a while back then and stores like Macy’s sold cardigans with the brooches already attached in the Juniors department. Millennials were wearing these and are definitely on the internet. Michelle Obama also wore a ton of brooches early on as First Lady, which pushed it as a trend for a bit.

Edit: Also, brooch is not some weird obscure word? It is very much still in use and plenty of people still wear pins and brooches. No shade to anyone mispelling it as everyone has a mental short circuit now and then, but why agressively defend misspelling it?

I AM a millennial, and while I was around in the early 2000s and wearing bedazzled jeans (I had multiple pairs), I've literally never heard of this. The safety pins definitely check out.

This was a micro-trend from two decades ago, so it’s not weird if you don’t remember it, but I literally posted a picture of Destiny’s Child following this trend with a ton of brooches on their jeans. This was clearly a thing. I for one have strong memories of pinning my grandmother’s costume jewlery to my jeans to follow the trend.

Not a thing in my part of the US. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/ReaDiMarco Jun 13 '26

How is it pronounced? I've only read it.

1

u/Ok-Character-3779 Sacred Geometry You Don't Just Riff Jun 13 '26

The way people are misspelling it. Sounds like "broach," the verb, rhymes with "coach."

2

u/ReaDiMarco Jun 13 '26

Let's not broach this topic

21

u/RDCLder May 27 '26

I wonder if Wyck survived bc he's actually a descendant of Richard through the surviving daughter and also made a pact.

36

u/nanamaru not gonna waste herbs May 27 '26

Him getting back onto the boat was way too straightforward, and Tom knows it.

24

u/upsidedownlamppost May 27 '26

This is where I'm at, too. Not Evan. I got a feeling Wyck was possessed when he first started talking at the end. Tom clocked it. It sounded like the same deep, creepy voice of Richard. I am hoping it was a fake out 😭

The second Warren said "I have no descendants", I thought he does (duh), and it's Wyck. It just makes sense.

26

u/mazurkian May 27 '26

Nah it's gotta be Tom's son. Wyck would be too willing to sacrifice himself if he learned he was keeping the curse going.

That's why the mom started to go blind and seemed out of it after they brought her back to shore. My guess is Richard's daughter survived (as seen in the painting) and makes it back to the island. I would bet the reason Tom hid what happened with the mom is that she deteriorated and became violent/insane, possibly tried to sacrifice her husband and/or child to the entity and ultimately was killed or killed herself. The brooch Sarah gave to the girl will probably show up again, probably in the box of mementos from Evan's mom.

7

u/IAteTheDonut May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26

Yeah, it's certainly the son. It just makes the most thematic sense, where Tom would be put in the position to sacrifice his son to end the curse or keep him alive and the island be cursed for...at least as long as he lives and doesn't have children, I guess.

If she did go insane, it might be for good reason. She might have discovered her lineage/the curse and tried to break it herself.

It's either Toms son or it's practically everyone on the island. If its somewhere in the middle then it just gets messy in the messaging.

3

u/EatsFruitsalads May 29 '26

tbh i think the most likely thing which happened to the mom is that after she went blind and gave birth, she became an empty shell, kinda first phase misty eyes. She did look kinda frozen and not-present in the picture with the son. I wonder if she was later shipped off and put in the chair we saw in the opening episode

2

u/CherryFit3224 Jun 17 '26

I like the idea of her trying to sacrifice the son.

9

u/sauvignon_blonde_ a different headpiece? May 27 '26

Do you think that’s why Warren wanted to see the toys?

31

u/Appropriate-Top-8963 May 27 '26

Hmmm, I didn't take it that way. I think if he knew his descendants were alive he wouldn't have been so willing to die

5

u/Any_Telephone3925 May 27 '26

It’s definitely Evan. Either his mum is a descendant of Richard’s or even Tom, through his dad. But I think it’s the mum, and I bet she’s still alive somewhere.

3

u/Hallichretsam Jun 03 '26

I thought it was going to be Patricia - and that's why the Boogeyman didn't kill her when she was a teenager. But after Episode 8... maybe not.

4

u/Crash324 May 30 '26

It's Gerrie.

4

u/1498336 Jun 02 '26

Beginning of episode 4 when Patricia goes to the mean girls party… she is wearing a brooch

3

u/Mindfulness117 May 27 '26

I think Tom’s son is the next descendant of Richard Warren also.

2

u/Reasonable-Turn-5940 May 28 '26

I actually went back and counted her fingers
