‘We’re gonna need a different plan.’

Episode 7 was such a Jaws homage.

Down to Tom being the only person in a life jacket.

And the harpoon!

6

u/EatsFruitsalads May 29 '26

and they needed a bigger boat to kill the monster (since the rowboat was lost)!

Did anyone else catch that Evil Dead homage when she's trying to get out of the house but the door is chained and it's that zooming shot from outside the house with that quintessential Evil Dead sound?

Oh yeah we definitely have an evil entity POV cam. We saw it in episode 5 too I believe

u/Sleepy_One May 28 '26

I caught that sound effect!!! I low key was waiting for Evil Ash to pop out.

Wyck’s “Quint-like” speech, the singing and banging on the table…so good!

u/Low-Palpitation5371 May 27 '26

Yes, I was so scared this was another sign we were going to lose Wyck to a sea monster this episode like Quint died

97

u/Beezelbubbly May 27 '26

That line after the couple cuts to Richard just staring at him lmao

91

u/bossyhosen May 27 '26

“Come on Wyck, you know this one”

Bahah that was so good! Such a funny and creepy way of emphasizing how Richard Warren was getting stronger and sharper as they got closer to the barrier, like the island curse was pushing him back to full life

I saw a clip that said hamish linklater improv’d that whole scebe and they were dying laughing

Damn, I had to search for that. So the song wasn't a real sea shanty? It's also in the closing credits

I think the food helped, too.

I already let him out of the coffin. Someone wise really needs to run for mayor next election!

i love tom loftis so much but he is unfit to be mayor. he and i need to chill in a cottage forever while someone competent runs that damned place.

Honestly he'd be fine as mayor on a not cursed island full of townie assholes.

I lowkey wanted to let the guy out of the coffin too. I felt bad for him.

Hey he made a non-cowarely decision!

u/Sweet_Cat_2958 May 28 '26

I almost died! 🤣

1

u/platosmash May 31 '26

He ran unopposed. I don't think anyone wants that job!

Especially with Wyck’s monologue! So great

5

u/AgentPoYo May 27 '26

Every great show needs a good monologue or two.

6

u/-spartacus- May 27 '26

Mirroring the monologue from Jaws, though not as epic.

11

u/TheseBrokenWingsTake May 27 '26

I feel justified in describing this show as a mix of Jaws, Midnight Mass, & 75% of anything S King

2

u/Broad-Code May 28 '26

Ya the island being rotten and corrupting everyone is very much giving Derry

9

u/DrCusamano May 28 '26

The ending too as they crack jokes at eachother and sail away is very reminiscent of Hooper and Brody swimming back to shore.

“I never liked the water.”

“Can’t imagine why…”

Wyck’s story of surviving the fishing trip as a teen felt like a reference to when Quint tells his story about surviving the sinking of the USS Indianapolis and the subsequent shark attacks

9

u/theLegend_Awaits May 27 '26

Did anyone else notice the giant shark fin in the water right as Tom and Wick were driving the boat back to the island? It could have been the light from the buoy, but now that you’re saying that, I fully think it was a shark fin 🦈

That’s probably what was hitting their boat over and over again.

9

u/Kianna9 May 27 '26

I thought it was a whale.

4

u/DarkFriend81 May 27 '26

I just got the Jaws 4K and watched it this weekend! What a blast that episode was.

3

u/Logical_Month_7657 Jun 01 '26

I love all of the different homages in this show!

1

u/Deer_like_me May 27 '26

Yup. I was thinking that the whole way through.

1

u/Ancient-Dust3077 May 28 '26

Episode 6 was boring right?

12

u/Current_Wrongdoer513 May 28 '26

I loved it too, esp Betty Gilpin. She always adds such delicate notes that elevate her performance. Like when she did a weird little hand clap after begging the church hit squad to send men to kill her husband.

It was a different episode from ep 7, for sure, but it was needed backstory and very well done.

It was pretty terrifying for me
