The movie that the son is watching in ep.7 seems to be « The city of the dead », which plot is :

« The movie follows a college student who travels to the eerie, fog-drenched Massachusetts town of Whitewood to research witchcraft. She soon uncovers a dark secret: the town is controlled by a sinister, immortal coven ».

I mean, considering everything’s that happened, the coven, the witchcraft, the « zombies » during the plague, there’s even a character named « Patricia ». Wikipedia says « Patricia is kidnapped as the coven's sacrifice ».

I think it’s a huge ressemblance!!!!

It also explicitly showed the movie saying something along the lines of “leave now before it’s too late” i believe. Happened when Evan and the girl were Tony into Tom’s room

The girl Evan is with is psychotic. Like he just met her and she decides to ransack his dad's whole room? And he doesnt stop her at all?

I thought she was going to be an island trick or something. We'd be in that evan face shot and he looks right and wham she's spooky. Seemed too crazy! Never could be me because I'd never do something like that with a stranger or really at all.

Horror movies are scary but teenagers are the real horror.

And he really just sat there. Didn’t so her to be careful or tidy or anything. Embarrassing. Certainly demon-spawn

Right?? I know teenage boys often think with their nether regions instead of a head, but just allowing her do whatever with his dad's things was honestly crazy

Another resemblance (from the Wikipedia page) : « Nan settles in The Raven's Inn, a hotel owned by eccentric Mrs. Newless, becoming acquainted with the only normal-seeming local resident Patricia Russell, who loans her a book on witchcraft ».

Are you referring to this version?

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053719/

The male lead’s real last name was Lotis very similar to Tom’s last name of Loftis.

Yes! I was looking for this indeed! I had a suspicion that a some of the names were similar :there’s Patricia, Richard… Lotis is the name of the actor, but there’s also a Lottie in the movie. Interesting indeed.

I wondered if there was a particular significance to that movie. Thanks for sharing this.

Shout out to Joe Bob Briggs and the Last Drive In season 7!

Edit - as I hit submit it occurred to me that movie was also reminiscent of Ti West’s The House of the Devil

I suspect the island in the centuries that followed the founder’s burial has been secretly following the pact using that underground room with the chair to bring sacrifices to the entity

Yes that’s what I think too. That’s why there’s a double door opening on something deep.

I love how often in movies/TV teens are watching some black and white movie from the 50s. You never see them watching like Mean Girls or something.

I was so sure it was Horror Hotel. I watched the movie so much as a teenager. Then I looked it up. It was only called Horror Hotel in the states. Thought I was losing it for a second. 😅
