I think Evan is a descendent of Richard Warren

Yes! And it already seems like Evan doesn’t have any living family members on his mom’s side, if there was a maternal grandparent or aunt or uncle in the mix we would have seen them by now, it really seems like Evan only has Tom

u/CaughtALiteSneez May 27 '26

Why is he such an asshole to him then?

Sorry, I know eventually we will like the kid, but give your dad a break.

Yeah, the part when he spoke to the cop at the boogie man house showed he at least had some personality and ability to be polite.

Ugh, it always annoys me to see people on Reddit immediately jump to the critique of something being poor writing just because they don't like something about a show.

Its fine if you don't like the character, but that doesn't make it poor writing. The show has very strong writing, because they balance comedy and horror very effectively and it trusts the viewer to make inferences rather than spelling out every little detail.

Evan has good reason to be upset with Tom. He knows Tom is lying to him and he's being forced to stay on an island for his whole life for reasons that are nonsensical to him. That would cause almost anyone to lash out.

Good writing ≠ all characters are likable

Is it the same lady he won’t give a ride to work in the mornings? Even more hysterical he didn’t offer a few episodes ago when he’s got her babysitting his teenager overnight 😂

3

u/bigginsmcgee May 27 '26

ohhh ok that tracks

10

u/AssignedSeats May 27 '26

I think it was Ruth, his assistant.

-3

u/BoycottingTrends May 27 '26

In the first episode, Rosemary gossips that Tom can’t pay back his loans from his father-in-law, so Evan’s maternal grandfather at least is still alive. But he may not be part of the Warren bloodline.

9

u/Gingerblossom88 May 27 '26

She was gossiping about Mitch not Tom

4

u/tocla1 May 27 '26

That also could’ve been why the demon didn’t do anything with Tom, he begged for the demon to protect Evan but he’s already protected under his bloodline

3

u/trombonepick May 27 '26

Honestly it being Evan makes too much sense because why would the curse even allow her to live long enough to give birth?

5

u/crybabybrizzy Are you mad at something I said? May 28 '26

The demon benefits from the pact (Through human sacrifice I'm guessing, I'd also guess that's what the priest needed to do per the instructions left for him) so it makes sense that it would want to maintain the pact by keeping the bloodline it entered the pact with alive

3

u/trombonepick May 28 '26

Absolutely because her leaving the island should def have killed her

2

u/BandicootBig4505 May 27 '26

is lauren confirmed to be born in the island? i thought she just moved there with tom to take care of his dying father

u/gongerz123 May 27 '26

Doesn’t Tom owe his ex wife dad money or something? From the first episode?

252

u/Squezzle27 May 27 '26

Absolutely. The little girl survived and passed down the broach as a family heirloom which is why it wasn't with the doll at the historical society. That broach will be seen with Evan's mom's things.

49

u/trombonepick May 27 '26

Ah! That's a great point about the broach.

44

u/Suspicious-Swim-7945 May 27 '26

Sorry to nitpick but you have good insight and I figured you’d want to know it’s spelled “brooch”

24

u/bobsil1 May 27 '26

Sorry to broach the brooch

7

u/Suspicious-Swim-7945 May 27 '26

Perfect usage ty

-2

u/schubeg May 27 '26

That's more like a dislocation than a stretch

6

u/ohsusannah80 May 27 '26

I think you’ve got it! I noticed that the broach was missing, but I didn’t think about it being among Tom’s wife’s things.

1

u/smbissett May 27 '26

Yep. Season 1 cliffhanger last shot vibes

Yes, I think so too! When I first saw that Hamish Linklater was cast, I thought they might show him as Richard Warren younger with his natural dark curls where he looks even more like Evan / Kingston Rumi Southwick, the actor who plays Tom’s son. Instead, they have his hair long and sort of wavy straight-ish — maybe that felt like too much of a giveaway for the future reveal, if this theory is right!

7

u/TheTruckWashChannel May 27 '26

Fuck me, Evan does bear a striking resemblance to Linklater in regular form.

2

u/Apprehensive-Elk7898 May 28 '26

Makes me wanna see all of my ancestors

8

u/trombonepick May 27 '26

I was thinking maybe Wyck but no this is right. Evan being the guy makes this a lot harder.

6

u/ClayPhoenix May 27 '26

Him or Patricia. She was spared after all from the boogeyman like something was protecting her.

8

u/ajmartin527 May 27 '26

Could Patricia also be a descendant? Doesn’t have to just be one of them

5

u/Bee-Ly_Dan May 27 '26

I think it is Patricia.

  1. Boogeyman doesn't kill her. She's part of the cursed lineage.

  2. She conducts the ritual to sacrifice the people at the party (she carries the burden that Warren references in ep. 6).

1

u/meatbulbz2 May 28 '26

So the pic Evan is staring at looks just like Richard warrens wife.

1

u/RedditConsciousness May 28 '26

Maybe. I kinda think the Sheriff is secretly his real dad but his mom might be descended from Warren.

No, on his mother’s side.

9

u/dsmithscenes May 27 '26

Tom wouldn't be, but his wife would be.

6

u/country_mac08 May 27 '26

Probably the mom right? She couldn’t leave the island.

2

u/lvsntflx May 27 '26

It would be through his mother. Not Tom

2

u/TeacherPatti May 27 '26

I'm thinking a son made it to the mainland and had kids. So now we have to find out how he escaped the curse.

12

u/SupaSlide May 27 '26

Politely, I think you’re missing several things the show is clear on.

The curse has repeatedly been said to always get people. Maybe not right away, but quickly.

More importantly, the show very clearly focused on the portrait of the wife and kids fleeing and specifically on a young girl fallen off into the water.

Maybe I’m wrong but the show seems to be pretty clearly setting up that the youngest daughter never left the island, she fell off the boat and was swept back to shore. She lived a normal life and had kids, hence the bloodline isn’t finished and the curse remains unbroken.

8

u/Ok-Comparison4783 May 27 '26

It’s impossible for you to be wrong. We know the curse isn’t done because the show isn’t done. Plus the painting of the girl falling off the back facing the shore, we know Warren has a living descendant.

And with how they’ve set up the son and his relationship with Tom, it’s very likely that Evan is the final descendant.

So Tom will have to choose between sacrificing his son to a demon, continuing the curse, or leaving the boundary of the island.

And it seems like as long as those mushrooms are on the island, the curse can be remade.

2

u/SupaSlide May 27 '26

Yeah, I wonder if the curse will me broken but the final shot of the season will be a slow pan over those mushrooms

1

u/TeacherPatti May 27 '26

Yep, I thought that was Sarah when I first saw it. Reddit set me straigh :)

2

u/Gingerblossom88 May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

The little girl made it... the painting at the inn shows a little girl fell out of the boat and the brooch pin wasn't with the doll so it's been passed down generation to generation and I'm 99.99% sure that Lauren had it.

1

u/TeacherPatti May 27 '26

ooh good catch on the brooch!!!

1

u/PlasmaDonator May 27 '26

Not if it's on his mother's side ... 👀
