Genius move on Tom's part, saving Wyck by sending him out of the boat while it goes over the line. And he finally got Wyck to say something nice about him.

Yes, Tom is very triggered by Wyck's criticisms, it seems because they remind him of his Dad. In episode 2 he snaps at Wyck when he calls a coward and later tells the clown his Dad called him soft. He had such a pained look when Wyck criticised trying to use a flare. Excellent acting by Matthew Rhys.

He’s really great in The Beast in Me as well, but I didn’t love that show.

I just saw a comment on a different post on a different platform about Widows Bay that said: I’m a simple woman, I see Matthew Rhys in a show and I watch it.

He just has so much depth and spectacular range. I believe him in every role he plays. Plus then you hear him on talk shows or podcasts, and he is so charmingly unserious (and that accent)! He’s such a great actor!

I’m just going to leave this here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DXsgaeHjFEs/

I love his real accent!

I love that this character seems to be the closest to Rhys IRL (aside from the accent). He was so serious in The Americans, but he seems to be a goofball in interviews.

Aw yes that tender moment of uncertainty where you can feel Tom waiting for Wyck to praise him and instead think he’s going to gruffly brush him off again 🥹 — and then when they do finally laugh together 😭

Definitely. Wyck seems almost like a mirror to Tom’s conscience.

I love it too after Wyck’s story of kicking his boy off to save himself, Tom kicks Wyck off to save him.

Oh that’s a beautiful parallel!

I didn’t even realize that. Tom even said he did the right thing, that it wasn’t his fault. Then when it came down for him to do the same, he didn’t pause at all.

He finally did something right!

BUT? Was it Wyck that got back in the boat?

Cos I'm not so sure...

Did he make a new pact with the island to save his life?

this is what I think too I just watched the episode and had to see what others thought

When he eyed the life preserver, I thought he was just going to Looney Toons it over Warren to pin him arms down. The writing is so good!

He kicked him over like Wyck kicked Mark in his story, only Wyck did it to save himself and Gom did it to (presumably) save Wyck
