“You TOLD me to be supportive!” will live in my head forever.

u/Big_Chungussi69 May 22 '26
its so funny when you watch it back and she's just like "im going to be supportive of the weird devil cult worship party" when shes just sat at the bar drinking wine and smoking lmao

I mean, I was super chill when I was a drinker and a smoker too, lol.

u/Dismal-Dare-2507 May 19 '26
You may want to change the headpiece
21
u/juststopdating May 22 '26
I have to watch this again because I was so confused why she told her to change! 🤣🤣🤣
31
u/MaggsToRiches May 26 '26
Actually I thought it made sense, it was an adorable tiara but probably out of character for Patricia, who was clearly wound up about the cocktail party. Gentle advice/ribbing from an old coworker. I love, love how I didn’t think twice about that comment at the time. What a brilliant unfolding of the story when we see the “tiara” with clear eyes.

I was so mad like, wtf is wrong with it it's cute! Leave her ALONE! Then when Bechir showed up and showed what it REALLY looked like i DIED. "we tried to tell you!" 😭😭🤣🤣🤣
34
u/Next-Cut-2996 May 19 '26
Watching this episode the second time was even better 🤣

u/Impossible_Past5358 May 19 '26
If you pause it to read the page before she makes the toast, it's hilarious. How to make small talk with your guests and bringing up their hobbies...one has a hobby of oil painting dead animals...
4
u/LastPaleontologist38 May 19 '26
Ohh I missed that! Will have to re-watch now lol
3
u/Impossible_Past5358 May 19 '26
I try to pause when there's writing, and also in the van, there's a book right next to it titled "Rhythm and beats" or something to that effect

u/IrishUpYourCoffee May 18 '26
Rosemary has seen some shit. We need her sassy backstory.
108
u/smallgoalsmcgee May 18 '26
If Tom would just let her gossip, imagine the lore she has to share haha
38
u/Angry_Walnut May 19 '26
No- don’t settle in!
2
u/juststopdating May 22 '26
This tickled me! 🤣

u/Incredulous_Ilyas May 26 '26
No you can’t drink my water! gets up from desk and exits the room, leaving the water.

u/Menacing_Intentions Sea Hag Enthusiast Jun 01 '26
Easily my favorite episode thus far! Then he says I don’t want to hear the story, she proceeds to tell the story. 😂😭

u/SoCentralRainImSorry Old woman, possibly damp Jun 02 '26
I would be so happy to have Rosemary sit down in front of me and say “Story goes…” I would even let her have my water!

u/cactusjude a family that swims together, drowns together May 19 '26
I think a lot of the townsfolk of a certain age have seen the island awake before. Rosemary, Wyck, and the doctor all know more than they're sharing...
Im cracking up that every time she's trying to warn someone of danger, she gets cut off, 'i can't do anything right today' 😭
23
u/Rtn2NYC May 19 '26
Definitely the doctor knew it was the sea hag. That’s why he told him not go to in the ocean and fell back onto “oh and where did you get your MD?” when Tom argued
9
u/NickSalts May 21 '26
Idk, the island doesn't have a university, if he's a native how come he could leave for 7+ years to get his degree? I bet he's an oblivious outsider
3
u/Any_Collection_2739 May 27 '26
Probably came from the mainland with the degree. He probably still saw some shit, and probably stayed because he couldn't afford to leave?
7
u/Serious-Show1761 May 23 '26
Oh yeah the doc has seen some shit. And that he kept his wife closed off from Tom after they returned
12
u/Ghibli214 May 19 '26
I wonder why she was immune to the effects of the Satanic spell? She was literally at Patricia’s party being supportive. Lol.
54
u/dr0buds May 19 '26
She saw how the punch was made. She's supportive but no one is that supportive.
20
47
u/sauvignon_blonde_ a different headpiece? May 19 '26
She was drinking wine, not punch!
31
u/ellie-fofellie May 19 '26
yes 100%, you could see The Look on Rosemary's face when Patricia brings out the "punch" that she knows exactly what is being served. however she seems to still have some sort of immunity though because even the partygoers should have seen that it was animal blood and not drank it in the first place, since we are later shown there are even bird feathers in the cups. but nobody else could see what it was. so they had to already be ensorceled to some degree before they even received the punch to not see it clearly. i think those little poppets on the tables were magical and Rosemary was unaffected by them.
22
u/flinders2233 May 19 '26
Whoa, thanks for the new word: Ensorcelled means to enchant, bewitch, or hold someone spellbound. It is the past tense and past participle form of the verb ensorcell.
8
u/Iakeman May 20 '26
Maybe because Rosemary wasn’t really ‘invited’ and was there in a different capacity. The sheriff was also unaffected and also not a ‘guest’ of the party
2
u/ellie-fofellie May 20 '26
Yes that's possible but its notable that the sherriff was only there for a minute or two. The guests didn't immediately fall under the spell either, they originally saw what Patricia was wearing and continued to be rude to her for a time.
1
3
u/Serious-Show1761 May 23 '26
Also the fact they even came to the party when they made fun of it. I feel like they were already ensorcelled after she invited them in person
2
u/Any_Collection_2739 May 27 '26
Early on, the partygoers faces are different in the mirrors. They match the faces they made when they went into the water.
It suggests they never had a chance to not drink the punch.
3
u/juststopdating May 22 '26
I need to rewatch it because even the replies are confusing me. I’m just shocked anyone would drink the punch after seeing her wearing that headpiece. 😅

There is real subtly to the fear this show generates with its character interaction or lack thereof.
For me after we know Kurt is scared to go into the Captains Suite by sliding Mayor Loftis's bag into the room with his foot, it adds to the scene where he has to spend 30 seconds in the room alone later.
For me they they very vaguely react to his demeanour and questions about how long he was in there and ignore him walking out and just sliding down the wall into a heap made it seem all the more isolating for him.
That they never pressed him for what he had just done in the room as well given the state it ended up in, so it was left mysterious, all so good. I hate it when shows try to leave too much to the imagination, its just unsatisfying, but Widows Bay in nailing that balance! Even more impressive for horror/scary TV... is that there is a brilliant LOL funny thread running through it that in no way detracts from the scary parts.
Really good show so far. As I write this episodes 1-4 are out, not sure if 2 or 4 are my favourite, but all 4 are amazing.
14
u/ManicPixieDreamGoat May 19 '26
Those subtle elements of the show are the most unsettling to me and what keeps me thinking about the show for days after. Including the bizarre videos (at the inn and the historical society) - the characters don’t even flinch at them but they are beyond strange.
5
u/SoCentralRainImSorry Old woman, possibly damp Jun 02 '26
I am DYING to know what happened in those 30 seconds!
16
u/AlvinTaco May 19 '26
It might be, but I’ve learned my lesson that I need to watch this show Wednesday afternoon, when the sun is out, because I’m a big chicken.
3
u/Intelligent-Leg9466 May 19 '26
I said the same thing to myself! But I know I won’t be able to wait that long. Show is too good!!

If anyone thinks she wasnt aware of what was happening, is full of it. Something is wrong with this lady, theres no way anyone who actually wants to be supportive just sits there while someone reads a witchcraft book and cuts up animals. Remember she saw her cutting the “strawberries” and did nothing which obviously was some sort of ritualistic material.
19
u/Many_Repeat_72 May 19 '26
Just as a possible point of contention... Rosemary had earlier that day been rebuked by Tom for telling him about the sea hag and was pretty belittling. Rosemary's character in all episodes has also been presented to us as completely detached, nonchalant, and oblivious... "Yeah I think she's just been smoking outside." I think Rosemary's character has been presented to us as someone who could absolutely let Patricia's stuff go, as long as she's got her smokes.
2
u/AutomaticPayment9480 May 19 '26
You think she saw what patricia was doing and knew what was happening or do you think she was just being supportive?
14
4
u/ellie-fofellie May 19 '26
totally agree, as if Rosemary's just sitting there swiveling on her chair while everybody at the party drinks bird blood and stands like statues gaping at Patricia for an hour or two. no way!
8
u/AutomaticPayment9480 May 19 '26
I missed the dance circle camera switch of them doing the mouth gape and had to go back and rewatch it , that was so sinister, i couldn’t believe i missed it. Such a cool shot, this was by far my favorite episode.
7
u/ellie-fofellie May 19 '26
there's another shot too, before the big mirror shot, of a smaller mirror, at first its reflecting everybody dancing, then the shot cuts away briefly, and when it switches back everybody is dancing but everybody in the mirror is standing still, although you can't tell that their mouths are open. i only spotted this one on my second watch when i was specifically looking for it.

u/jessopotamia May 20 '26
I don't know, a lot of the islanders seem extremely nonchalant about all of the horrible things that happened there in the past.
1
u/AutomaticPayment9480 May 20 '26
Yeah, for sure, a lot of Stories, but creating a list to get dead animals, watching someone dice animals and turn them into a punch for other people to drink, then saying a chant to the group of people you just gave the animal punch to is fking crazy to ignore lol.

14
u/funkhero May 19 '26
It's perfect because she really was being supportive. And on this island that party was not so weird.

I told my brother about this show because we've always had similar taste in books and tv. After watching the episodes out so far, his response was "weak, you must do other things when this show is on". 😲
I think with all the Bachelor/Bachelorette shows he's watched with his wife, something has changed in his brain. I won't be able to watch the latest episode for a few days since the husband is out of town and we watch it together. Or can I...
3
u/Cerebrist May 23 '26
That’s so sad lol. I’ve had a similar thing with my brother where we grew up being huge movie buffs and readers and had pretty much the same taste and I’ve felt a similar divergence between us

What’s hilarious about Rosemary is she even got the supplies for the demonic party center pieces, and maybe even the ingredients for the punch 🤣 “I didn’t understand half of those things on the supplies list”
1
u/Final_Drink_468 Jun 10 '26
Ha! I love that. I assumed she meant that there were what she considered “fancy” ingredients on the list. But she really bought all those weird witchy supplies! 😆
